Oil Sisters Who Have It All
Playing as Joon is a bit more of a “back to basics” considering what's come between Reimu and now. She is completely lacking for good ranged attacks, but can maneuver around very well, and has very good melee attacks. The gimmick behind her is that as she fights, oil spreads out around the battlefield, not water. Unlike the others, she doesn't get slowed by the oil, rather instead she can ignite it, strengthening her melee attacks. Beyond that, you've also got Shion, who you can literally use as a shield to guard against small bullets to automatically absorb them into charging your spell card.

And working as a hitman on Okina's account, no less. Oh, and did I mention she's canonically this game's incident solver? Granted, Okina told her to do it, and you can take a wild guess as to who REALLY caused the incident in the first place, but she still did something not even Reimu or Marisa could.

I'm surprised they didn't add Nitori in this story, since you'll think that the water being polluted by an oil that results to be worthy would make her either want to negotiate with it or use it for her inventions.

Easily my favorite character to play. Hands down. These two actually made me go from "this game is kinda frustrating" to "this game feels amazing actually" Obviously you found the stupid uppercut but frankly just grazing bullets with Shion's parachute and using it to land just feels perfect??? Like just what this game needed???? I was so tired of fixed momentum dashes that launched me straight into bullets!!! They were awful!!! It's almost like if you make a control scheme that doesn't require a PhD in physics to use then the game becomes more fun woah. I mean I already loved Jo'on but this is icing on the cake

The control scheme of Joon here basically fixes one of my biggest complaints with this game. Namely being the controls and that there's no proper "jump" button. Your only "jumps" are dashes, and your mileage may vary to the usefulness of that when you want to actually "jump" But with Joon, moving her just feels like a natural "jump" button. A jump, but with all the benefits of grazing bullets from a dash. Only downside with her really is that the _lack_ of a dash made it tough to close the distance with bosses sometimes (especially since Joon practically has jack for projectiles). Yuugi in particular I was really feeling it, cause her more than any of them, I felt like I was chasing her down more than properly fighting.

@MegamanOmega184 Shion can be used a projectile if you do 2A or 5A when holding her or C when she's idle beside you.

@@MegamanOmega184See, you get it. The real trick to getting around her horizontal issue is just being really aggressive with jump ins and aerial downward moves. Using her up+attack from the ground is nice too, due to the explosion it puts directly at your feet. It does have a set momentum like other dashes, but you can also choose when to commit to it, so you can just play it safe like you did

I love playing as the Yorigamis so much It's just a shame you didn't use her dive bomb attack more That's pretty much her only source of good horizontal momentum And tossing Shion That actually deals a lot more damage than you might think especially if the target can't flinch Anyways, next up we have Flandre and her... interesting style of story progression I wonder how you're gonna make that video If you're gonna do what I'm thinking, then that's gonna be a long video Especially since two of the paths are inconsequential anyways

Man, it feels good to be able to actually control someone without having Classicvania jump physics. Pretty broken double jump too. Of course coming with the downside of having to get close and personal though. In earlier versions of the game, Kutaka's fight in this story actually ended after her first spell, but they changed it down the line so you get her full fight in stage 2... Also yay, two birds in one story.

Interesting that Joon/Shion's story, unlike Kanako's with Reimu/Murasa, sidesteps the 'encounter from the other side' idea. Granted, it would have been weird to have TWO Kanako fights, but from a narrative perceptive, it also offers the implication that Joon and Shion outright lost their matches (which means it wouldn't make sense to have the player characters 'winning' them even in impression), as opposed to Reimu's and Murasa's fights more being "Kanako toys with them until she's bored then lets them move on" (so either side can 'win' because it doesn't matter in the end).

Absolutely the best scenario so far in my opinion, with the unexpected return of Flan-chan aided by Okina of all characters. I do have a question, however: why are the Shion fumos so much more expensive than the Joon ones? I kid you not the latter are at least twice the price, which is the reason my own Joon is still missing her older sister. (*_*)

Don't know why, but I noticed when I was going through the usual stuff when the upload goes public (adding it to the playlist & changing the end screen for Murasa to connect to this) that the video was... oddly low-res. Which was confusing. _surely_ the HD version had processed by now, I uploaded this hours ago... Turns out for some reason, Powerdirector had swapped back to original output settings. So I accidentally produced the video at 720p and 30fps...

Joon and Shion are *extremely* straightforward, which is nice for just trying to beat the game, but also means they have basically no tricks to speed up fights. Their DPS is *garbage* compared to everyone else's, unless there's a bunch of oil on the ground and the boss is also on the ground. I believe they got buffed in 1.13 or 1.14, as the speedrun no longer uses just grounded up attacks all the time, but does a diagonal upwards dash attack thing a lot now, but it's still pretty mediocre compared to everyone else's DPS. They've got the second longest speedrun at 5 minutes 35 seconds IGT on normal, being faster only than the character who fights 8 bosses, one of whom takes 2 and a half minutes by herself. Their fastest 1.04 time was *7 minutes 9 seconds*, being almost 2 full minutes behind the next slowest 1.04 speedrun. Really don't have a lot to say here, you just kinda control like a reasonable person would make a character control, punch things, and hope it goes your way. Next time, though, we get to one of the characters I've done speedruns for, myself, though she's more than a bit different than her 1.04 incarnation. I guess one interesting thing to note is that against Utsuho, Joon can actually just delete the orb bullets during some of her attacks with uppercuts. I think she's the only character that can actually get rid of them in a way other than letting them go off screen?
