So for anyone wondering how the player is able to enter the mine again despite the lack of oxygen, the game straight up says "Don't worry. After you beat Chimata, you somehow obtained a card that allowed you to breathe without oxygen!" I shit you not.
@@marinaaguas9219 oof i feel bad, i also sucked at it but heres a very good hack that works on every boss -get remilia fang card -you know how when the boss finishes their spell before the last one that stand still for a breif moment then they begin the last spell? Quickly use the remilia card in that small time when they are doing nothing, and you will entirely make the boss disappear and skip the final spell, very useful!
@@foxxbaker No More Going Through Doors and The Shining Law of the Strong Eating the Weak are both absolute bangers lol If there's one thing ZUN has been killing it with lately, it's extra stage themes. They're filled to the brim with energy. This one is no exception
Not just that, the final pattern of the last spell card looks like something out of Mushihimesama. Though in that game it'd be going much faster and for longer.
@Donhimesama Daifutari I was referring to visually instead of difficulty, I know the franchises are on different playing fields when it comes to that. I'm pretty certain there's a final attack from a CAVE game that looks like 11:10 but with faster purple bullets, but I can't remember which. E: I know Mushihimesama is in the name of the spellcard, but I'm checking videos right now and that doesn't seem to have the attack I'm thinking of.
Man, ZUN has definitely become better at illustrating artworks. The boss had pretty clear proportions and even a pose. Hadn't seen much of the game in years, so I can only compare it to the beginnings. Pretty impressive.
@@darkness74185 without a doubt, he's better with traditional art. That would make sense because around 10 Desires his style looked really "off" compared to usual. I also prefer his traditional coloring but these days it's looking good too
Imagine it's New Year's Eve 1997. Neither Gradius nor Thunder Force is what they once were, but just this past year both series have gotten games that arguably surpass anything their series has seen yet or will see. R-Type Delta has been announced, too, and from what's been revealed of it it's going to give that series the same treatment. Over on the vertical shooter front, captains of industry Toaplan and Compile are both moribund, but several Compile space shooter staff have been hard at work creating an all-new genre, manic shooters, under the banner of Raizing for four years and, also this year, several Toaplan staff have released a game that seems to be defining another new and even more iconic genre, bullet hell, known as DoDonpachi under the banner of CAVE. Meanwhile, Touhou only just got started this year, it hasn't yet reached its peak in any regard, and nobody who hasn't been to Japan since about 1995 even knows it exists yet. What if I tell you that, in 24 years, Gradius won't have seen a new full game since 2004, Thunder Force VI will be so bad it kills the series for good, R-Type will be finally getting a new game for the first time in 17 years but the reception will be chilly, no IP from either CAVE or Raizing will have gotten any all-new installment in nearly a decade, and Touhou will still be getting games people like reasonably well?
@@fl00fydragon Well, now that Blue Devil in the Belvedere and Sapphire Panlogism are also out and of comparable quality, R-Type Final 2 looks even worse.
LOL for describing the Spell 11 as "anti-Marisa Spell". I attempted to clear the EX with Marisa and I almost always lost at least 3 lives at that spell. It is really ridiculous. Ended up selecting the mini Sun active solely for the purpose of getting through this (and it works!).
@@johnpapoutsakis6871 It's pretty simple actually, just have to make sure you take a small turn in the direction opposite to the one you're in whenever you reach the borders for the knives to reach her, It takes a bit but it works. Having Reimu/Sanae's homing option cards and Saki's attack buff card also makes things simpler
thats the idea. all her spells are themed around kodoku, an ancient japanese curse method where you lock lots of bugs up together and the one that ate all the rest and survived would be used for a powerful curse.
I'm starting to think that ZUN in his quarantined time played len'en at this point. Considering some of those patterns and the whole other people's "card" buisness (I'm looking at you Haiji)
from a casual perspective this stage is mega fun due to the 3 different starting cards, allows for lots rapid-fire experimentation since it's just a single stage. I will not be able to play a touhou game without Okina's door...
@@raccoonchild the mechanics of UM and BPoHC are pretty similar. In UM, you buy and equip cards that gives the player abilities. In BPoHC, you earn alcohol by playing the game to upgrade your team and get special abilities. Both games can end up being broken with the right combinations of cards/upgrades.
really cool video, but just wanna correct one thing in the description: spell 3 (tsukasa's final spell) - the big suns are static, and the stars are aimed. the suns fall from the same positions every time
Something interesting I’d like to note- on the fourth and fifth nonspells, you could probably move towards the top-centermost portion before the walls collapse, then just tap downwards while they do so. That way, the walls do most of the movement for you.
Are there any characters/active ability cards you highly reccomend for a first clear? I've gotten as far as the boss's first spell before losing all my lives
I've seen Yukina's Door, Koishi's Hat, and Utsuho's Sun getting recommended. For characters you want someone with reliable homing. Personally, I would recommend Byakuren's Scroll if you have trouble with the stage, because it makes your bombs last much longer. If you don't heavily rely on other cards, I would also suggest Mamizo's Statue because it flat out gives you another life. These are the most "noob friendly" cards I find, because the give you more value for your resources. Yukina's Door gives you a nifty escape route for some of her spell cards. Koishi's Hat means you can touch enemies without hurting yourself. And Utsuho's Sun is broken because it lets you cheat through an entire spell card with no risk, and the fight is so long the you can get it off twice. Lastly, you're given a random selection of cards to buy before the boss. If the Phoenix Feather is available BUY IT!!! It gives you 3 more lives, which makes the fight much more comfortable.
@@quochaonguyen6484 I didn't say Mamizou statue, I said Mamizou*'s* statue. All of the ability cards are based on a character's power, and I thought the Jizo was Mamizou's. Or is it based on the statue girl from Touhou 16?
I think the entire budget of the game outside story has gone to the EX Stage. Overall an excellent EX Stage and an excellent performance from your part. Also, any plans to 2-ALL Progear no Arashi now that is on the Capcom Arcade Stadium on the 2000s era package or you're satisfied with your 1-ALL?
It has been like this for years. The last official games that have some good patterns are Touhou 14 (Seija and Raiko are really something) Not that Touhou 18 is that bad though. I think the pattern design here is actually much better than Touhou 17, especially in the Extra Stage (Saki is just plain bad as an Extra Boss...)
@@TalosMistake I disagree. Touhou 15 had plenty unique spell cards (for better or for worse). And Touhou 16 didn't have many unique spells, but Yukina's final-boss final-spell was a great twist. I think the issue is that the spells in recent Touhou games are designed around the gameplay gimmicks of their game. For example, Saki's flashy but basic spells give are a visual spectacle next to your trance.
8th spellcard is absolutely ridiculous. I cleared this on practice 1 time out of fucking 142 and basically by the purest luck. The massive amount of residual bullets are coming just randomly from all the 3 directions, under several different angles and freaking fast. On top of this you have this miner-centipede shooting aimed stuff at you. Literally insane for a casual player like me.
man, been a while i rage quited a game because of her and the stage in general lol. Good job as always, Now I Know How To Obliterate This Rock-Eating Bug™️
For us gamers who aren't skilled enough for no miss and no bombs, what would be a good replacement for the centipede? I usually use an active card or Reimu's homing familiar for extra damage with range
I'd recommend Sannyo's card if you're confident enough to capture at least some spell cards. Every three you capture gets you an extra life, out of 12 spell cards where it would matter.
@@nintendonut888 thanks, I already tried it and it helped me beat Ex stage with Marisa (good lord I needed those lives) besides that, what would be other options for cards (preferably not actives)
@@akenohononiku916 You can't go wrong with the wolf card for additional firepower, or the Koishi or Mamizou cards to help preserve your power when you die. If you want to account for Reimu's lack of range, the doll is always a good choice. I wouldn't recommend it for one of your starting slots, but if nothing better shows up during the card shop before Momoyo, Okina's card is very useful in spell cards where it's applicable - particularly the survival card.
Utsuho’s sun is very useful too because it can clear a spell, nonspell, and a small part of another spell if you time it right. However you will only be able to use it 1-2 times depending on where it’s used.
>The boss 2nd non also has a movement limit bug where it can go way too far down the screen than it's supposed to. You sure it ain't intentional? (also lololol that damage output on the final spell how)
Because he was flexing. He was never going to get hit, so why did he need more lives? The idea with to beat the stage with only the cards he selected at the start.
Okay, the description has a few labels that say "Len-en" spell, but what does that actually mean? I'm not really in on the community terminology if it isn't self-evident.
Pretty sure the giant snakes on Snake Eater are aimed at you somewhat. Also I had that dumb nonspell moment as a result of her being so low when it started. It's dumb.
The character design, the visuals, the music, and the danmaku itself are all perfection. This must be one of the best bosses in the series. ZUN really went all out on Unconnected Marketeers, it's proof that modern Touhou games are just as good as the classics.
And what’s up with your spellcard history, it said that was your first try capturing it. How? I dare you trying 1cc this , nbnm and without using any ability cards.
Momoyo is an oomukade, a massive centipede that’s the natural predator of dragons. They have such bad indigestion that they can sterilize a mine, play Minecraft, and I think Momoyo was once killed by Mokou’s indirect descendant. Then somehow came back to life.
I wonder if it's possible to get points overflow. Maybe you can buy card that gives extra points for something? Or not buy heart to have more points from each following item (~80*400*10000=320 000 000, if I am right with bonus for items)
I see you use the Hakkero and not Alice's doll. Is the Hakkero stronger? I always thought the doll was the strongest attacking aid you could get because it attacks consistently.
