There's a good chance you'll be in Honningsvåg and won't be able to see a thing. This is the arctic after all. So, if you've had your heart set on taking a pic with the iconic metal globe at the North Cape or Nordkapp, ok, take the 45 minute bus ride to get there, but that may be the only picture you get. If you want to explore the town of Honningsvåg, here are a few ideas to help get you oriented.
There is a vibrant art scene with sculptures, galleries, handicraft shops and public art exhibitions. The museum has permanent and temporary exhibits to help you understand life in the arctic since the Stone Age as well as the near demolition of the city during WWII. This is an active fishing port and visitors can go out and fish for King Crabs, or other arctic sea life. At the foreshore, look down into the clear water and you'll easily spot star fish, urchins and other bottom dwellers that the king crab feed off of.
Don't miss the community theater production about life in the arctic. Local stories are told through song, dance and storytelling. Especially on a cold day, this is a perfect way to learn while being entertained and staying warm.
Pubs, cafes, and shops including a Christmas store are also fun ways to while away a day. Or take a walk through the city, exploring the homes and streets that make up this community.

It does feel real. It’s not just a tourist town (though there is that element for sure).

Visiting the northern-most city is incredibly exciting! The King Crab looks and sounds delicious. The harbor and town have a charming appeal, but it can be pretty cold and damp even in the summer. Your footage is truly amazing, and your narration is top-notch. It's an awesome share, my friend - I found it incredibly interesting to watch. 😍👌

We definitely appreciate that feedback. We’ve been wanting to do the Arctic for a long time, so it was big on our list. We’ll do a different part of the Arctic circle next summer.

Taking me to these incredible magical places is a true delight. Your research and professional presentations are a wonder to watch and enjoy. There is so much changing in the wonderous world of ours - you've captured this place now for keeps. A true tribute. It has brought a ray of sunshine into my dreary weather Sunday morning. Thank you. 🩷🙏🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿

I’m sorry you’re having dreary weather. It is so strange. We are in Ghent today and it’s sundress weather. Things are really wacky!

Loved the wrap up, setting us up for the 24 hour sky. “From the sea” …powerful! ❤

That sky was powerful to watch. It was like an arctic sunset that felt more like a sunrise. Just magical.

Hey Jonathan and Jennifer! Thanks for taking us on this Arctic adventure in Honningsvåg, Norway! It's so interesting to learn about this unique corner of the world, from the northernmost cities. Your video really captured the essence of life in the Arctic, and I appreciate your insights into the local culture and attractions. And that midnight sun? Incredible! Keep up the great work, and looking forward to more well-traveled adventures. 👍

Oh man! Thanks so much for being here. There’s definitely something kind of exotic about being in the Arctic circle, but one of our favorite small towns was Skjolden. That’s a gorgeous video.

Hello, nice to meet you. We want to visit Norway in the future and it is amazing to be able to hear all the amazing and interesting facts. We didn’t know about the crabs. Nice to meet you. Have a great day 😊

Those king crabs are monsters! We didn’t know about them being an invasive species though. That kind of changes things. We hope you get to Norway. We’ve fallen in love with that country.

Great video and information! Very exciting to visit the northern-most city! The King Crab sound delicious … too bad they’re harming the native ecosystem. I’d love to check out the local art and Christmas store. Charming harbor and town, but pretty cold and damp even in the summer! 😉😄 Hello from Washington, new friend. Best wishes and happy travels! 👍👍🌟🌟

Thanks so much for stopping by. We had no idea the king crab weren’t native, or that they were problematic. Those things are monsters! We feel certain that there are blue skies and polar bears in the Arctic - we just didn’t see them!🥶😂

Slightly mortifying that Jenn is teaching geography. That comes from a career in education - and the fact that we’re learning as we go. We really want to get to Longyearbyen. That really would be the farthest from Australia. Not that we want to get as far away from Australia as we can. We actually also really want to get down to Antarctica too.

Really liked this one. Interesting about the king crab. I also loved the look of the little city. Another shot I really liked was all those colorful boots lined up outside the brewery.

We thought the boots were so pretty - and so perfect for their climate. We were totally impressed that they got flowers to grow in them. Who knew the king crab were an invasive species?!
