We think of ourselves as travellers, not tourists and consider ourselves informers rather than influencers. Having invested in travel, we've now got a portfolio of experiences and adventures that we can share with you. Throughout our voyages, we've collected friendships--our favorite souvenirs. We'll introduce you to the people we meet and we know you'll fall in love with them and their homelands.
Now that we're retired, we have more time to wander and want to share our experiences. We know that the more we learn about the places we're going, the more we enjoy them once we get there. Our writing, photography and art is our way of diving more deeply into each destination. We're enhancing our own experiences and providing valuable insight to you.

That was a very close call! Quite a trek to get it back. Unfortunately, we weren't so lucky with you guys. But... we got a new drone and after looking back through our records, we found that we had protection on that old one, so we'll have a replacement when we get home. We can't thank you enough for all your help trying to locate it. What a little mini adventure. We ended up at Curry's in Dundee later that afternoon to buy a new one. And at the end of the day, we ended up at Brewdog in Saint Andrews for a pint. Love to you both!
Great to hear from you both. Did Jonathan receive Keith’s email on Saturday… apparently someone may have found a Mini 3 Pro drone including memory card near where it was lost? Sounds like you are covered in any case so no worries. Love from K&L
@@lornasillar7176 I'll make sure he checks his e-mail. If there's any chance it's our drone, we'd love to at least have the memory card! Bu if indeed it is our drone, what a story! One more way Scotland is AMAZING!
for Kirlby-IN-Furness, read Kirkby-NOT-IN-THE-LAKE-DISTRICT! It's not a "non-touristy area of The Lake District - It's NOT IN THE LAKE DISTRICT! It's not "on the cusp of the National Park" - It's NOT IN THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK! It's not 'a secret' or 'the hidden gem' of the Lake District - BECAUSE IT ISN'T IN THE LAKE DISTRICT. Perhaps you should rename this video "Best Pubs NEAR the Lake District, England".
We hear you. We know we weren't within the boundaries of the park, and we get that you're technically right on target, but we aren't the only ones that consider the areas around Ulverston and Askam part of the region. Not meaning to offend or spread misinformation - just trying to give people a sense of the area we're visiting. And regardless of where it's located, we've fallen in love with The Ship and the people who frequent it.
Wow, what a great place to stay! I could see visiting there and staying for a week or two. How far was it into 'town' or the place where you shopped? Rhonda
It's a 10 minute drive to Portree, and about 7 minutes to the Edinbane Inn where we had a couple of good dinners. It's definitely more remote than staying in Portree, but we loved the views and the seclusion. We did all of our shopping on the way into the island, and made most of our meals in that terrific kitchen.
The bridges really are iconic. Having each of them from a different century and in a different style with different engineering makes them fascinating.
Thank you for making this video, it is so informative. I will be going on a cruise there this month, I liked the itinerary you took but I’m concerned if Im going to be able to make it back on time to the cruise. How long does it take approximately to cover all those places?
You need to have at least 7 hours to do the itinerary we did (and have time at each stop). You can reach out to Knut, our driver and see if he's available. He was really good about making sure we stayed on track for time.
That's a very wonderful and meaningful trip. Thanks to you, I was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery from every angle. Thanks for sharing, my friends.🥷🇯🇵
Sorry don't say Indonesia for west Papua New Guinea stop lying through your teeth Stop supporting Indonesia in slaughtering innocent people of west Papua New Guinea people
@@welltravelledlife The images from your drone are nothing short of spectacular. The distance range is very impressive and you have got to many places that are only accessible if you are a fearless young teenager (few years ago for me now) or literally by boat. I'm seeing places I haven't set foot on for 40 years. First time in a long time I'm very homesick. Thank you.
I'm glad to see you enjoyed a visit to my home city. I just want to add some context to the picture at 3:45. That ship actually belonged to Kaiser Wilhelm II of the German Empire. Kaiser Wilhelm was a good friend of Norway and made frequent visits multiple places in Norway. Like you said, the city was almost completely burned down. But then only 3 days later, Kaiser Wilhelm shows up with a small fleet of supplies for the approximately 10 000 people who had just turned homeless. Not only did he provide supplies, but he was also central in the reconstruction of the entire city. And this time in stone instead of wood. I sometimes tell this story to people who criticize Wilhelm II for being a terrible leader. Wilhelm could have easily turned a blind eye to what was an unknown town in Norway, but instead he shows up with supplies only a couple days later, and helps rebuild a city. I have some historical pictures of Kaiser Wilhelm standing on top of Aksla (the mountain hovering over the city), and inspecting the damages. Ålesund is a small city, but this particular history is a hidden gem that not many people outside of Norway knows about. It's a shame, because it shows that Wilhelm II had some good qualities to him.
Isn’t that almost always the truth? There are shades of goodness in everyone - even the worst of us. Finding ways to celebrate the goodness that does exist is an important part of understanding humanity. What a great story you’ve told here. We love that you’ve shared it. We don’t blame Wilhelm for having a soft spot for your fair city. It’s one of our favorites!
Fair warning. Trollstigen is closed for the rest of 2024. You are not allowed to walk or drive there at all. Huge boulders keep coming down. Hit a car, driver was fine, but it was close. So they will need to make it safe, before it opens again in 2025. You can always go around to the other side. Valldal, not Åndalsnes. There you can at least get to the top, the lookout and see Trollstigen.
Oh my gosh! We knew it was perilous, but hadn’t heard about the recent boulder accidents. I’m glad there is a plan to make it safe. The back side is equally beautiful and I’d think it’s still worth it to get to the top that way - as long as the weather is good enough to get a view down. Thanks for the update!
Your tour of Fort William was fantastic! The scenic stops you made along the way from Garve, especially with the historical insights about Buie Priory, were captivating. The detour through farmland sounds like a fun adventure, and your dining recommendations, particularly the venison burger with haggis, have my mouth watering! I'm excited to see where your travels take you next.👍
This is such prime hiking area. The next video we’ll be at Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. Nothing like Norway, but impressive by British standards.
This was fantastic, lovely to see more of the NC 500, such a breath taking landscape. Loved Ardbeck castle in your drone footage that was so very beautiful. Isolate and alone on that island, it's just perfect! Thank you for the wonderful video
