I'm finding it's not really ever the actual vehicle so much as it's having freedom and beauty and a sense of peace!!
@CheapRVliving
@CheapRVliving 7 лет назад
You are very wise Belinda, Vandwelling is an attitude, not a choice of vehicle. It's a radical departure from a way of life that is not working in order to adopt one we hope will work better. In a sense it is a rejection of Consumerism, love of money and things, alienation, contempt for nature and control.

I am in the planning stages of living the van life and am also a dude of faith. One of my concerns is finding other Christians out there to fellowship and hang out with. I love and accept all regardless of what they believe or don't believe, but it's gonna be important to find folks out there that I can identify with spirituality. Iron sharpens iron.

"The world's greatest need needs our deepest desire." Love this! Dave has a beautiful program, and he seems to be a really compassionate man. Bob, you give the greatest interviews. You have honed your skills. You rarely talk over and through the talker. You are quiet and allow them to finish their sentences and thoughts, then you interject at a good time to make it more interesting. It takes patience to do this. Your interviews are a joy to watch. I'm a new subscriber, and while vandwelling is not open to me full-time, I am finding that many ideas can be applied to sticks-and-bricks living and of course, part-time/occasional vandwelling and boondocking.

Intriguing. There's an underlying current that seems to be a theme among people who live out of their cars or vans, etc. And, ironically, one who is unacquainted with the lifestyle, would assume that's there's something abnormal, wacky, off about people who chose to live like this. But, it's not so. The underlying theme that seems to be common among this population is their emotional, mental and physical well-being, their lack of addictions and intelligence. This is no "slacker group" of people, these people are incredibly resourceful and flexible. What an intelligent man, Dave--and, spiritual. So refreshing. Thanks, Bob and Dave for sharing. Truly inspirational!

Bob - You and Carolyn/Capone Rock! I'm a therapist and ran a behavioral treatment residence for adolescent males when I was in my 50s. Like Fr. Dave, I was surprised by the bond I was able to form with young people. I had a 100 gallon fish tank and a Boa snake in my office that helped break the ice. I also took the teens for hikes on nearby trails and fishing in the pond down the street. I was amazed by the positive change in these teens when they were out in nature - many of them were without their electronics for the first time! For some of them, it was the first time they opened up to me. Ecopsychology? Sounds awesome! It really works!Great interview!

Bob, I SO appreciated your interview here with Dave. And the way you let him share his heart, his passion, the "riches" of his spirit and journey...and his deep sense of calling with us. What a treat! And the way you love to let people shine as they share their journey and their heart with us...is always such a delight, Bob. The way you encourage them to beam is a joy to behold. You really do take it to "art form"! Thanks so much for doing what you do! I keep watching quite a few of your videos for their sheer life-journey inspiration and encouragement to simplify...and the immense joy that so many of these nomads exude. Every so often I just "have to" share a few words to let you know once again of my delight from enjoying another "spark" of these kindred spirits who travel "light" in some ways (often not so connected to the trappings and entrenchments of our modern often-sticky and way too burdensome lifestyles) and yet so deeply connected to the earth and to the hum of nature and its "wild" as it calls to the deepest part of us. So appreciate your showcasing such beautiful "kindred spirits" with you who you obviously so enjoy "touching wings" with on your mutual journeys and then sharing their presence so freely with us! What a win-win-win!

Sorry Bob but i have to say this....Im not happy seeing some comments! i used to work in a state prison with level 2 to level 5 prisoners all male and this man did not set off any red flags for me! i am a RN and did thousands of interviews when prisoners came to our prison! i listened carefully to what he said and not once did i feel he was setting off my warning signs! Kids r not alone in the woods with him those programs have several adults in the group's that together take the kids (mostly older teens who get in trouble a lot) in the woods to try to help these kids heal. some of these kids need someone to guide them and teach them and someone they can confide in and trust. not all familys r like "leave it to beaver" or places these kids grow up in arent Mayberry. he said he is following Buddhist religion. Let me warn u pedofiles are not just men women abuse also! So please stop being so judgemental of a person who his whole life has done nothing but give!

I'm sure nature could do wonders for everyone. This was so enlightening. It makes me want to seek the outdoors. I'm never outdoors, except for going to a store or a family member's home. It makes me desire to investigate this more. My mom had cancer when she was 65 years. The Dr told me it was a matter of time and it would be all over her. How wrong he was. She lived another 33 years and left this life 2 years ago at almost 99 years. My mom was very spiritual but very feet on the ground sort of person. Imagine my surprise to hear her speak of her method of healing. She said it was by hugging trees. The divine life is great in trees and all of nature. Let us explore it more. Thanks to this beautiful man, who has learned how to really live. Bob too.

Second time watching this one Ha Ha, love the Neil Young utube ad leading up to this video. I consider nature/wilderness as the true church and being one with all. I follow Buddhism and being a backpacker all my life, It surely made my transition to vehicle dwelling easier. What an amazing life David has led, and continues to live, life is an adventure and when you can share your knowledge, as you do also Bob, what a gift to all. I believe that nature keeps us healthier both physically and mentally. It sure keeps be feeling young :) Thanks for another great interview Bob. I rewatch so many of your videos!!

Great piece, thanks. Dave gives us perspective and even more inspiration for the nomadic life. Also I love the term "Ecopsychology", Theodore Roszak is often credited with having coined the term in his book "The Voice of the Earth" but I was a convert with his "The Making of a Counter Culture".

Awwwwwwwwwe The healing and peace of mind being in nature brings to the soul...... So very true..... How the little things are appreciated and all the beauty we find in simplicity..... I've always wanted a cozy little cabin in the forest or mountains.......

Very cool video! Thanks for sharing!! "Homeless" is different than "houseless". A van, a tent, a tree, can be a home because a home requires a person's desire to live there. A house in a vacant structure. Nature, the Earth, is our home.

So awesome, Bob. Very interesting man and his words made a lot of my thoughts coalesce. I hadn't realized that my purpose for living this life is a full on vision quest. I'd like to join him for an elder quest. I was once interviewed for a podcast and one of the tenets I expressed was a desire to repackage this whole idea of growing older as a time of growth, not impending death. I want to learn more about ecopsychology. Nairopa - haven't heard about it since my days as an undergrad in Boulder in the 70's. Brought back lots of memories of the earthy girl I used to be. Made me smile. Thanks Bob and Dave.
