Alice and I talk about our New Forest River Riverstone Reserve 3850RK and show you around the inside.
Thank you for all of the support since our RV was wrecked. Our community and your support helps us get through it all and makes us feel like we can keep going on.
****
We both left great jobs in Alaska to begin full time RV Living. We will show you how to enjoy the RV Life and Chase your Adventures like we are “Chasing our Adventures”.

We had talked about RV Living for two years before we met Keep Your Day Dream and Less Junk More Journey during their trip to Alaska. After meeting them at Cabela’s in Anchorage the planning phase quickly turned into the execution phase. We decided to make our Dream a Reality because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
In April of 2020, we sold our home and all of our belongings to “Chase our Adventures” and began our full time RV Living dream. We launched our RU-vid Channel "Roaming with the Ramsays" in the hope of inspiring others to Chase their Adventures and make memories.
We still watch Keep Your Daydream, Less Junk, More Journey and have been inspired by fellow Veterans, Phil & Stacy (You, Me & the RV), and Chad & Tara (Changing Lanes). We hope to help future Newbies to begin their Full Time RV Living experience as much as they have all helped us.

*Chasing our Adventures
❤️ It’s more than just a slogan to us. We have both experienced the loss of loved ones who never had the chance to Chase their Adventures because life was just too short. RV Living is about more than just selling your stuff and moving into an RV. It’s about making memories together and building relationships with people we meet along the way.
****
We are Gordon & Alice Ramsay! 👍
We bought our first RV in the Spring of 2017 (2018 Forest River Surveyor) to explore Alaska and get a feel for Full Time RV Living. We started in RV Parks and State Campgrounds then began experimenting with Boondocking. It didn’t take us long to decide we loved being in the RV and we felt more at home there than in our House.
We travel full-time on the road with our mixed breed Border Aussie SKYE who loves the Adventure of new places and making new friends.

Hiya Ramsay's. I tripped over your story tonight and can feel your frustration and uncertainty. I also found inspiration in it all. The way you can both work together around and through a difficult and expensive situation brought on by circumstances outside of your control is something I can relate to, yet in a very different scenario. I'm happy you found a excellent result from a brutal situation and I appreciate the reminder to keep working and fighting for solutions. Enjoy your ride.

Also - Battleborn has a Black Friday Sale and so did North Arizona Wind and Sun - the 2 suppliers Mike and Leann work with - we ordered the parts in November and both companies held our equipment until we needed it to arrive at the install location in Florida. All the logistics were handled by LeeAnn.
@RoamingwiththeRamsays
@RoamingwiththeRamsays 2 года назад
Wow sounds like they made it very easy for you. Like hearing good things about working with a company. We had a great experience with Bix Wireless when we upgraded to our pepwave router and needed a SIM. One of the owners jumped on his motorcycle and drove 45 minutes to bring it to us when the first one got lost in the mail in Mississippi.
@ts_breezes486
@ts_breezes486 2 года назад
We discovered “The Dry Campers” on RU-vid. Mike and LeAnn travel the country doing Solar installs and put out videos showing the particulars for meeting each clients needs. . We meet up with them in Florida this past February and got 1300 watts of solar power on the roof and 4 Battleborn batteries. With this install we don’t worry about the residential fridge power, and all our electric appliances and receptacles will work without shore power. Mike also added an EZ start on both our A C units so the batteries can handle the surge when the AC kicks on. There is a federal tax incentive available for a % of the entire cost of the install being credited on our 2021 tax filing. Best Wishes with your new camper!! Looking forward to next weeks insurance video! We went with Progressive through LazyDays - hope to never need it 😀

Your experiences help all of us who haven’t dipped their toes in the RV market yet to know and understand SO much more than if we hadn’t watched your videos. Your ‘incidents’ although frustrating for you, is a bonus for us, since we learn through you all. I love that you got an RV you thought you loved and by divine intervention I believe, you were then prepared with a checklist of what you would change and got your hearts desire in the new one. All of your checklist, and looking at the features, pro and cons for you, it also for all of us as consumers. Thank you and keep the videos coming. The hubby and I are about to start our search, we are better prepared because of the two of you.

My wife and I had a 5th wheel but we had a opertunitive to buy a 40 foot fleet wood motorhome. We are so glad we bought a motorhome is much easier to operate. It has everthing even a washer dryer which we love. The nice thing about a motorhome you can pull to a start start the built in generator and go to bed and hook up in a park the next day great if pulling into a highway rest area. To bad you didnt look at motorhomes. Now i pull my 1 ton disel truck. The storage is great the whole under neath is storage. If you ever get a motorhome be sure to get a disel. Ours is a 400 hp caterpillar lots of power and we get 9 miles per gal. With my 5th whell and truck we got 9 to 10 miles per gal..although the motothome holds 200 gallons. It rides smooth as a cadillac.
@RoamingwiththeRamsays
@RoamingwiththeRamsays 2 года назад
We have considered it several times. I really do like them and still consider it as an option but currently it is financially a little out of our price range. Have to do more research on cost of ownership also. Maintenance on my truck is fairly easy to determine according to the schedule and costs are fairly predictable. Things like tires and so on as well. Most towns have a dealership I can take it to for service. I have spoke with a few Class A owners about maintenance but haven't gotten enough details.

The Riverstone has a 1 year warranty like most. Personally having had a Keystone Alpine before this and having done many tours of Solitude I feel like the build quality of the Riverstone is better. I would encourage you to walk through all of them and research heavily. We use Geico for our insurance. We have a few videos you should check out about our Alpine getting wrecked this year and an insurance video also.

Solar is great. Just a quick word of caution. There are a few extreme cases of 5th wheels (or any RV for that matter) with heavy oversized solar panels mounted on top. The potential downside is it makes the rig top heavy. Any quick or unexpected evasive maneuver might contribute to a possible tip over. I see some extravagant solar setups and it’s an accident waiting to happen. Not to be a naysayer. It should be fine in moderation, but just be aware that top heavy rigs may affect maneuverability.

Your channel was a RU-vid recommendation and was recommended from the wrecked video. Even though being involved in the accident was a major inconvenience, the other driver did you a favour because your new RV is better and doesnt look gloomy. I am not an expert on RVs or anything but like to watch various youtube videos. I don't know what your current back up generators are but you could look for a Jackery with portable solar panels - I see them in lots of vanlife videos. Living Big in a Tiny House has a recent video about their solar system (they are in New Zealand) but I think set ups would be similar. Truck House Life from Alaska fitted his cabin with new batteries earlier this year, I think they were Battleborn but he tells you about them (his cabin is tiny compared to your RV). I am over the pond in England and the transient lifestyle in America fascinates me plus I get to see places that are not on the typical tourist trail. DO all the doors and drawers have catches so they don't fly open when you are on the move? Can you hang artwork on the walls?
@RoamingwiththeRamsays
@RoamingwiththeRamsays 2 года назад
We agree on the new RV being much nicer than the old. That was one thing we always disliked about the other RV. We considered painting several times to change the look but hadn't gotten to it yet. We love the layout and the white with the big windows feels so spacious. Thanks for the tips on the channels for the solar I will give them a look. The doors and drawers do not have latches they have magnets which seem to be doing their job so far. We did add some magnets to the drawers on the desk to help keep them shut. So far so good. We mostly use a sticky material to attach certain things to the walls. There is a website for a site that does prints called mix tiles which send prints with an adhesive that does a great job. They didn't even come off the walls when we got wrecked. Hung them on the new trailer. Thanks for watching from across the pond. We are in Texas now enjoying the coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

That panel will charge battery while parked. I have 2 on my class A diesel pusher. That solar panel is 190whr. So it will charge a battery with 1.9 amps and hours so basically think of it as a Trickle charger during the day. So basically it will keep batteries up with no load on them.

One question, one comment., Comment: we have a 2016 coachman. We didn't find out until we took it out the first time about how the medicine cabinet hung over the sink. Now every new unit we look at has to pass the "spit" test. Question: On the new unit you bought, Is it rated from the manufacturer for full time living? Most are not, however I know that Grand Design Momentums are and I believe the GD Solitudes are as well. We are a big fan of the Momentum in 376TH. Take a look if you ever get a chance. Plus the 376 has a built in 5500 watt generator, 30 gallon fuel tank, I believe 118 gallon fresh water and large capacities grey and black. It's truly set up for boon docking.
@RoamingwiththeRamsays
@RoamingwiththeRamsays 2 года назад
James we really like the 376THS as well. We toured one while we were in Montana but felt it was a Dually only rig. Which honestly I have thought several times about getting a dually but after much deliberation decided against it. As for being rated for full time living the answer is no. I personally believe that is simply a manufacturer safety net. The materials are very sound and the build quality is also. We have already put over 3k miles on it with no real issues. The subfloor is 5/8 plywood tongue and groove which is certainly an upgrade from the last trailer. The Spit test is pretty important when it comes to the bathroom sink.

I would consider at least 400 amp hrs of Battle Borne batteries and at least 600 watts of solar panels, 3000 watt pure sine inverter charger. I had 4 golf cart batteries that came in my class A and my residential fridge would such the power out of those batteries and wouldn't last the whole night and besides that it kept burning up the computer control card in the fridge. Now with the Battle Borne batteries I've gone well over 2 weeks. Food for thought 🤔

I’ll second what has been said here. GoPower has a pretty decent solar calculator that can help you decide how much solar you need. A 3000 watt Hybrid inverter charger would be my suggestion given your needs. It will not only provide AC but charge your batteries when your on shore power. Plus the Hybrid models can supplement shore power with battery power if for example your mooch docking on a 15A circuit. The Go Power IC-3000 is a model I really like because it’s set up for two Leg 50A units so you can have power through it to the entire trailer. I will also second the Lithium battery suggestion given your needs. On a non solar front it would have been nice of you had walked around your new RV as you talked about why you choose it so we could have seen what you were talking about Vice having to imagine it.
