A tourist violated Mexican law by climbing the stairs at a protected archaeological site in Mexico and was greeted with boos and detained by authorities. Full story: abc7.com/mexic...
No I don't think it's her first time at all knowing the rules the do's and the don'ts that goes around the world and they got to respect the Billings and the property just like here and United States and elsewhere other countries
@@briannakelly26 I don't think so if she knew the rules now you tell me is it tell her to jump from the highest mountain or stand by the train I do not think so she'll do it she knew it and she break The rules as simple as that you know that more than anybody all of us
Saw the same thing happen in Mexico. We were at some ruins and a couple guys decided to climb up on some and throw rocks around like a bunch of toddlers. When our tour group chastised them, they acted like we were in the wrong. Needless to say, we didn’t see them board back on the tour bus. None of the guides seemed to really care. People like this ruin it for everyone else. You once could climb up on the ruins. but idiots like this started to paint graffiti and litter all over the place.
Correction people European decent be ruining everything for us Latinos and just wanna bring back more pain as if they had not caused enough in our history
Absolutely beautiful how all those people held her accountable. Guaranteed she will never do anything like that again. It’s amazing what accountability does for civility.
Incorrect. She is a narcissist. Narcissists spend their lives ignoring the rules and laws of society (and the social contract). Do you know why??? They delusionally believe they are "special". Those delusional beliefs make them feel *entitled to special treatment*....and...(it gets even worse)...they *genuinely* believe that the rules and laws of society and the social contract apply to everyone else BUT them. This is truth and fact. Seriously. She will spend the rest of her life doing stuff like this, AND she will expect to NOT be held accountable for it. If people DO try to hold her accountable, she will cry out "I've been victimized!" Yes, narcissists are THAT delusional. If you don't believe me, just look at how Donald Trump behaves at almost 80 years old. He has spent his entire life believing the rules don't apply to him and that he is superior to others.
that's what I keep telling people, its the nature of the beast, they get away with something and then they are emboldened, they just look for something else they can get away with. I think we need to bring back tar and feathering, that seemed to work.
Shaming of any kind is good for any society. That's why ours is declining. Shaming has become a bad word when it's a perfectly valid response to ridiculous behaviour. She certainly won't do it again.
@@MollyHJohns It's an old tradition, not in use since 1530 or something, the old American nations, mainly in Mexico and Central America used to rip your heart and offer it to the gods to improve climate or agriculture, etc, and then you would become a lesser god or one with the universe depending on the religion, this obviously ocasionated the fall of some kingdoms or empires since obviously it would not always work and the answer of the religious men was sacrificing more people By 1521 mostly only the Mexica Empire or Aztecs and some other kingdoms used it but it was becoming quite unpopular even before the Spanish arrived, then like 70% of the native population died due to diseases that the Spanish brought and then became slaves of the Spanish until 1821, but are still mistreated by Latin American governments, so that religion ended up disapearing due to the disaproval, right now it's being rescued by Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Peru, since they are the only ones who consider it their culture to a degree without the human sacrifices of course
it is illegal because tourists have damaged the pyramid at the top, so national institute of archeology decided to ban the access at the top to protect it, everyone in Mexico knows this and despite it sadden us, we understand it has to be done to protect it, and it anger us the disregard for rules and the pyramid.
Apparently not everyone in Mexico knows this as it turns out the 'tourist' was really a Mexican national who pretended to be a Spanish national untill her ID was checked by police
The craziest part is that she actually seems surprised that people are calling her out on her dumb actions. What did she think was going to happen? lol
I wish they would start doing that here in Italy, too. Some tourists are extremely disrespect and think they can do whatever to very ancient ruins, because there aren't enough consequences
what pig mentality and beat someone instead of educating them with the law sorry Italians are better then that they know not to beat people over something so small and you need to start thinking smarter
yes and men in Italy specifically Rome are animals. I was traveling 2months in Europe and after I got to my youth hostel I went to a deli to grab a drink and pizza, a group of 5-6 men followed me like a pack of dogs in heat pawing at me. I was terrified at 18yrs old too bad I wanted to leave shortly after that. Florence Verona and Bologna were nothing like that but. Rome is ridiculous. I wanted to punch them in the face .
I do agree about climbing historic and world heritage sites, that's so wrong but people themselves need to conduct the. selves civilly in otherwise normal situations like going to a store and walking down a street. pigs. animals
@@sydneyconcerts902 who said anything about beating? I was talking about locals publicly saying something when they see someone disrespecting their city. You need to stop making assumptions then 🤷♀️
That is Chichen Itza, I went there in the early noughties and was still allowed to climb it and it was amazing scary and exhausting. We were told that if you climbed it to the top and couldn't climb down that there was no rescue help. We were also allowed to go inside and see the jaguar statue with jade eyes. I feel so priviliged to have had the opportunity to do so
It's been a dream of mine but not being able to climb up sadness me alot, I really don't like people who break simple norms and ruin it for the next generation. It should be a crime highly punishable.
If I had all the money in the world, you think I could climb the pyramid without issue? It’s not like I’m going to spray paint the top, but I just love the idea of traveling to monuments of importance.
@@erenjeager5290 I know the feeling but... to keep it fair, if people are climbing it over time it could weaken the structure on top of the natural elements that may or may not be corroding the materials. I'm just state possibilities. So to preserve its beauty, they wsnt to leave it untouched

I’ve been there twice in the last couple of years. Signs 🪧 are literally everywhere saying now to climb. And it’s roped off. She literally hoped those boundaries. Super disrespectful. I’m glad she got the mob wrath!
I climbed one of the pyramids in the FINAL YEAR it was legal to do so. I was dehydrating that day and knew this was my only chance to do it. I made it to the top, passed out and needed water to recover. I am glad I had the opportunity.
I love the fact that it was the abuelas holding her to account 🤣 Grandmas here in the US need to follow suit and start holding their grandaughters accountable too.

I'm not so quick to profile... sorry, I'm older so I watch carefully what's going on.
That lady who pulled her hair... deserved the get punched in the face. The girl who climbed the pyramid deserved to get booed and ridiculed....but that doesn't give the right for anyone to physically assault her. I wished she had connected that punch to the lady's face.
I mean.. it's sacred. I'm not the smartest man but I'd imagine if I went to Egypt and just started parkouring up the side of it the locals probably would have actions if not words towards me. Respect goes a long way in life.
The sacredness has nothing to do with not climbing it, they changed the rules for safety and preservation reasons a few years back, there are some ruins there they still allow you to climb.
The locals there are the ones that brought that civilizations down, it’s part of their beIiefs to destroy idoIs and been doing that to ancient structures across the world, like Bamiyan and they’re told to build mosq on top of others tempIes.
I have been to multiple Myan Temples in Mexico, and they are Awe inspiring, especially considering how old they are and how they were constructed by the Myan Culture, And I was so excited to even be able to just touch one, I’m glad that she was shamed and humiliated by the crowds, it’s people like this that ruin it for others who want to visit these sites.
To the civilised amongst us - and do know we have now become a minority - it was the crowd that shamed and humiliated themselves for going after her in such an animal-like manner.
@@lucasalexander4394 both were wrong... But the problem is that society has deemed certain things punishable by a slap on the wrist, while other actions carry extremely unjustifiable punishments. We act like shaming people is always a bad thing but look at that! Imagine we did that every time influencers disrespect rare and protected sites, it'd be great
You can’t fix stupid but I REALLY appreciate that these people tried. There don’t seem to be enough people these days willing to speak up about such social stupidity. I love this.
@@cirigaming9377 By holding her accountable for purposely being stupid. She was told by many in many languages not to go up. But like an arrogant brat she did what she wanted to do. When people aren’t held accountable for being disrespectful they get get comfortable doing so. She is a perfect example of that. She is lucky she wasn’t mauled. She disrespected a nation, became an embarrassing example of an American tourist misbehaving, and has no shame for doing so. After this she won’t be doing so to a public monument again at least. Shame she had to learn the hard way.
I have visited several Mayan temples, they are astonishing and highly revered. Never in a million years would I choose to violate a sacred space, ever. I think she should be arrested and charged on top of being shamed.
What are you even talking about? This structure was completely legal for tourists to climb as recently as the 1980s. Tens of thousands of tourists have crawled all over the thing. It was used by the Mayans, who engaged in child sacrifice. What sacridity are you worried about? Lol get a clue!
I was thinking the same thing! Every bruja and spiritual worker present and even just regular abuelas probably put every curse they know on this Karen! Don’t get on the same plane home as this twit! Might not make it back. Dang.
@@lisashafer346 I agree with you except for using the name Karen. I think all you people that tread on that so much should grow up and move on. It sounds so ridiculous. Don’t be such a Lisa.😂
Lol. No. Many thousands of people have climbed to the top in the last century alone. They made it illegal because all the dumb tourists destroyed and defaced it.
That historical site is to be preserved and maintained. It was very selfish of the tourist to climb it especially since it contains deep cultural significance to some people.
How come no one is calling Mexico racist for for enforcing its laws and arresting criminals? When it happens in LA, all of a sudden it’s “attacking minorities” or “punishing poor people” .
You spelled criminal wrong. Xd. Some 50 year old trying to use the new hip word 🤣. I know they both make the [cuh] sound but the letter C and K are different.
Good! She deserves it. If you are a tourist who visits ruins, please respect them and even the culture. Government should impose ‘fine’ if any damage or obstruction of instruction is made. In some places this is there- so to ensure not just the tourist but nonsense people do not ruin anything. I remember a news about a teen or young adult who ruined a sculpture- don’t remember where it was. It is shocking.
I commend the heroic acts the Mexican people and the police did to this tourist. Our Mayan temple is a sacred place and must be protected. I applaud to my Mexican people for pushing away this tourist from breaching the perimeter. Based move. And glad the police was there to arrest
Yet they breach our perimeter every day climbing our walls & illegally sneaking into our country risking thousands & thousands of childrens lives in doing so as well. U know there's no country that has open boarder. & When Obama was President & Joe Biden was vice president - they had more illegal immigrants deported than any other president/& time in history. 🚩Yet then because of Trump's wall the left decided to tell u all that borders are racist 🤡& so many people regurgitate exactly as they have been told to regurgitate. Then soon as Joe Biden became president, Kamala our vice president held a conference saying "Do NOT come! Do NOT come into our country illegally" . 🤦🏽♀️🤡 But wait what!? Thought borders were racist? They just know how easily their followers forget & believe whatever they are told to believe. It would be odd for a president to be FOR ILLEGAL immigration don't u think? Not to mention "the kids in cages" photos were proven to be from when Obama was President & Joe Biden was vice president. 🤯 Suddenly all the people who were outraged became silent.

She looked less sassy when the crowd got ahold of her. If folks act is if they have no shame, the public has an obligation to remind them the lessons they should have been taught at home. As a sixty-plus year old I have been dismayed at the behavior of people of my generation when dealing with current and past social and health restrictions. Nothing, not seniority, citizenship, or membership in a certain economic class elevates one to a height where common courtesy, decency, and the rights of others are beyond concern. Those signs mean the same for everyone.
Climbing those Mayan pyramids used to be allowed, at least when i visited about 30 yrs. ago, the one’s i visited, Chichen izta, and Tulum. The pitch is so steep that people who climbed walking up, came down on all 4’s backwards so i can see why climbing them has been banned, as there must’ve been some serious injuries.
Yes, I think that is what many people think, and possibly the girl, that it is forbidden because of safety and not preservation, and thus, she may have just thought she was acting risky with her safety and not being disrespectful.
Yeah it was allowed bus since the pyramid of Chichenitza became one of the 7 new world wonders on earth, it has been forbidden due to preservation efforts.
Okay but also, who determines who's allowed to go where? For all you know, she was being led by the Spirit of one of the Mayans who built that pyramid. i mean, she clearly wasn't... But, for all you know 👀😶

Agree! But physically attacking her shouldn't be glorified like most of these very disgusting individuals are doing. She did get arrested and the people that were attacking her should have been arrested as well.
It's literally blocked off with a sign that says no trespassing. If she wanted to climb a pyramid then she could of went to Coba which is not that far from Chichen Itzta and it's still permitted there.
I like how many people are upset about this, but not upset by the dismantling and destruction of American culture. The first thing tyranny does is destroy identity. And I'm not talking about actual racist monuments (there are few) I'm talking about tearing down a statue of Ben Franklin just because he's an "old, white male". Our identity, regardless of what the TV tells you, has been strong and free. Why do you think people leave EVERYTHING behind just to get to the USA! Land of opportunity, work for it and you'll get it!
FYI; I climbed El Castillo back in the 80s when it was permitted. One side had a Chain to help the tourists clime down. It was because of many drunk tourist falling down the pyramid and hurting themselves that the government changed it's policy.
The final nail in the coffin was that tourists used to go and touch the walls of the temple inside which was found started to erode it and worse of all, even some graffiti was found, government was quick to fully restrict access to the pyramid. And while us locals were bummed, we understood why. This is why the crowd was so angry at her, breaking multiple rules not just for her own safety, but for the ruins as well.
Yes, I remember that time bcuz my then husband and I walked the steps as well and that was back in the 80’s I was too scared to go as far as he did because of the steepness 💫
I took my daughter to the top of Chizen Itza back in the 90s when it was permitted. It was terrifying being up that high, and coming back down was even worse! LOL
So this news clip isn’t showing all the physical blows she got. In my opinion I think some people took it too far, pulling her hair, men throwing things at her… you’re going to preach about respect but physically assault a woman? Just shout at her! It’s pretty hypocritical actually. I think the crowd took it too far.
That pyramid looks beautiful. It’s even more amazing to think it was made manually thousands of years ago. My fear of heights would keep me from wanting to climb it though.
Climbing them is the easy part cuz you can’t see how high you’re up. It’s climbing down that’s hard cuz you can not only sense the height but those steps are so short!! I ended up climbing down by sitting down each step lol luckily not a lot of people were there to see. It was a pyramid that is open for the public to climb by the way.
There are people who think the reaction of everyone else on the ground was too extreme. I’m sick and tired of self entitled people thinking that they can do what they want and then get away with only a slap on the wrist.
Total disrespect and disregard for others culture, laws, and their ancient historical sites. The arrogance of that thing, hope the attention that was sought doing the stunt was well worth it
THis is scary because it’s happening everywhere. Tourists or visitors needs to learn and respect the culture they visit. Hawaii hates tourists and I feel bad for the nice ones.
That Karen spit on the pyramid and did a silly victory dance on one of the Modern Marvels of the World. I wish they would have done more to send a strong message.
Shaming is one thing, assault is another. You can clearly see some people pulling her hair and yanking her back. The people seemed to be enjoying the chance at mob activity much more than they were "upset" about anything.
In Teotihuacan where the pyramids of the moon and sun are located you are allowed to climb them. I visited there when I was 16 and was one of a number of tourists that climbed. I climbed the pyramid of the sun. Well, I climbed almost half way up. When I was up that far people at the base of the pyramid looked as small as little black ants. I was getting dizzy and since the steps going up were only half the width of a normal sized step we are all accustomed to, I got too shaky to continue going up.
PS. When we were several miles away we could see the pyramid of the sun. We stopped to take a picture but even miles away we were to close to be able to fit it in the viewfinder. I was able to barely fit it by turning my camera diagonally. Another great place to visit is in Oaxaca. Just outside of the city of Oaxaca there is a mountain that had the top of it leveled flat and it has smaller pyramids and various buildings on top of it. They dug up a tomb of perhaps a high priest or something that had a ton of gold jewelry and artifacts. Gorgeous stuff. You can see some in the archeological museum in Mexico City and I believe there is more on display in a museum in Oaxaca. You can buy reproductions of that jewelry. They are either gold or silver gold plated over. No one was forbidden to climb on the pyramids on top of Monte Alban near Oaxaca.
I remember climbing this pyramid when I was a child - there were no restrictions. Even more, there were very humble Mexicans who lived in palm thatched homes right across the street from this site, and they clearly had 'dragged' ancient relics from this wondrous site, which they were using for tables and shelves inside their homes. Beautiful carved relics that were older than the Conquistadors, inside these thatched huts, covered in messy plates of Mexican food and dirty clothes.
