The South Street Seaport Museum is located within a landmark district that features some of the oldest architecture in Lower Manhattan, the Seaport Museum offers a glimpse into early 19th-century New York as well as spotlighting art, trade and manufacturing that existed throughout the harbor.
Since 1967, the Museum has presented collections and stories on the seaport's colorful history and has recently reopened as part of the Museum of the City of New York, giving the organization a renewed energy with vibrant displays of historic and contemporary works.
When visiting the area don't forget the ships! The Seaport Museum has a great collection including the 1855 Full-Rigger Wavertree and the 1908 lightship Ambrose, a National Historic Landmark.
