Best way of dealing with them is to not make eye contact and keep walking. I've had some scammers walk with me and try convince me to buy something. Just keep walking and eventually they will go away.

My stepmother has a very amiable personality as she always makes eye contact and smiles at everyone, she had never been to Vegas, so when she came out here I made sure to give her this rundown on scams before we ever went out on the strip! I'm sure I saved her hundreds of dollars!

Hi Norma, spent a lot of time in Vegas. Haven't been in a while, but it looks like the scams are pretty much the same thing different day. I remember coming in to McCarran (now Harry Reid) and getting on one of the shuttles to take me to Bally's (now Horseshoe). Waited on the bus until they could squeeze every last person on which takes forever. Driver gets in and as he does another man jumps on and stays standing in the front. Door closes and the standing man starts talking...I was TRAPPED in a rolling time share speech pitch all the way to Bally's. From that day on I have NEVER taken the shuttle again. Love Vegas, but there is a scammer every 2 feet. P.S. Tip for your male viewers, always keep you wallet/cash/credit cards etc in your front pants pocket, never in your back pocket. Big crowds like in front of The Bellagio and other locations are a prime target for pick pockets.

Maybe it's because we've been going to Vegas for over 30 years but I laughed through this whole video. Seen the scams hundreds of times. You get used to ignoring them. This info is really good for newbies tho.

I was paying for self parking at the ticket machine in Cesar’s Palace. As I was about to insert my credit card, some guy was trying to put his credit card or something for me I’m like “wtf”. Still have no idea what he was trying to do.

Way to go Norma...you are beating the scammers at their own game! In regards to the hot dog cart, when living Los Angeles, they had them all over downtown and they were difficult to resist. They have them wrapped in bacon. When the police come walking down the street they run away

When I was in Las Vegas this past July I had one of those monks approach me in front of the Caesars Palace and gave me one of those little bracelets then I looked at it and realized what was going on I gave it back to him and said no thank you a couple of times and then I walked away

I don’t mind buying things off the side walk vendors to help support them. Not bad especially for the price. Time shares aren’t really a scam cause you will most likely get what they promise but (in my opinion) they are NOT worth the time especially if you’re only in town for the weekend. But thank you Norma and Tim for not only discussing these traps but going the extra mile and actually investigating into these. Great video!

I was roped into a time-share presentation a few years back it wasn't too bad until I told them I didn't want a time-share and asked for our free vouchers then the guy became loud and rude, he accused us of wasting his time. I started crying because of how we were being treated but my friend who was braver than I was stood up to him and soon he backed off. It was definitely an experience that I will never forget.

First trip to Vegas we fell into the time share trap. We were put on a bus to out of town and taken to a brand new complex. Then it was a maze of continuous sales pitches. We tried leaving and everytime we went through another door to leave there was another group of people in a room trying to sell us a timeshare. Finally got outside and were stuck with these people until the rest of the group came out. This was before cell phones. It was 6 hours of our 2 day vacation. We got two passes to a couple shows for it but not worth it at all. I will never buy a crimeshare.

Its important to never speak to anyone you don't know when walking other than small, quick conversations like "yeah, pretty funny" or "nice hand"... Comes from living in a large city.

I worked as a timeshare Salesperson for a while. I kept getting terrible leads. As a test I went to one of the people that give away things like shows, etc. I told them I was in escrow & couldn’t take on an expense like a timeshare because my banker told me not to. They said it didn’t matter. Not cool.

It blows my mind a family wakes up one day and thinks yes let’s take the kids to sin city. 😂

If he wanna sale that bracelet for 10 dollars you should pull out one dollar in pennies and tell him, take it or leave it😂😂😂he try to hustle you have to hustle him back. Money is kings money can buy anything 😂😂

Im a security guard on the strip. Those monks wont leave me alone. Evertime im on my brake they come up to me and shove those beads in my face. I snapped at him.

My friend got stuck across town in a 6.5 hour time share presentation. Wasted the whole day.

And the biggest scam of all is $80.00 for the Ceasars Bacchanal Buffet and the tiny size of the dinner plates that you need to use. And yes, I know it's a Buffet and you can make as many trips back to the food lines as you want, but for $80 bucks at least provide us with a decent size dinner plate.

I think this info will really help first timers, a few of these shocked me on my first trip, my friend got handcuffed to one of the cop girls and she refused to let her go until we gave her money for a photo and it was pretty anxiety inducing to be honest but we finally got away without giving her money. Also don’t buy water out if coolers they often fill “recycled” plastic bottles with tap water and sell them to tourists 🤢Thanks for the video, great job Norma!! 🧡🖤🧡

I actually went with my sister and her husband to LV so they could go to a timeshare presentation (about 20 years ago). I tended their small child in their hotel room so they could go to the presentation. I think they got free lodging and meals for 2 days. BUT, the presentation was definetly more than 2 hours. probably at least 4 hours. but you didn't get the voucher for the free hotel and meals until after you attended the presentation and sat down with one of their representatives and let him try to coerce you into buying a timeshare.

I feel like the only scammers in this video is the monk and the showgirls/dancers because they try and get your money after the fact. The others pretty much let you know up front what they’re doing/selling or provide you with a show.

Love your video! I do want to warn people when at the street crossover bridges and the escalator is not working. There are pickpockets that will follow you and try to steal stuff from you back pack. Always always carry you stuff in front of you. I had my backpack opened will walking down the stairs. And my wife had her phone and wallet stolen from her backpack while waiting at the traffic lights.

The whole city is a trap…fee fee fee…it’s ridiculous that hotels can say this is the nightly rate and then add resort fees , parking, …aren’t several eateries adding a new fee. If it wasn’t for my employer paying for my hotel to attend a conference, I wouldn’t ever go to Vegas to experience the gluttony of the city

Great video Norma. When it comes to the time shares, it's not just the people at the kiosks that are trying to get you into a presentation as I have noticed that email is being used increasingly (especially from Hilton Grand Vacations) as another way to get you into the presentations. In the past month, I have gotten at least 5-6 different emails from Hilton Grand Vacations promising me a $200 3 night vacation in Vegas (or other destinations like Orlando) along with 60,000 Hilton Honors points if I attend a time share presentation down there during the trip. It's definitely not worth it in my view.

7:12 Ive been collecting these for years 🤣…I gave some out one time to some co workers. Dude threw them in his center console in his truck, his son found em. Took them to school and got caught and got suspended for 3 days. His wife was PISSED!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Great video Norma. I will say this about the card flappers though. Years ago when I walked the Strip with my kids (who were both under 10 at the time), I noticed that almost every time we walked by a flapper, each of them made some sort of conservative effort to turn the picture down or to shield the card from my kids. Don't agree/like what they're doing in general, but it's their way of making a living. And $5 for that hot dog???!!! I'll take 3 please!

Regarding street ‘models’ and costumed characters. The last time i was in Vegas, 2014, it was illegal for them to ask for money or ‘demand’ tips. Meaning it was perfectly legal to take your picture with them and walk away without paying. Bad taste but legal. So far as i know, they can ‘suggest’ a tip amount but you are not beholden to it. For the ‘monks,’ there is no temple beyond whatever bank they deposit the money in. Card-flappers. I remember those and the rows of ‘newspaper machines’ that had booklets. Most of the cards are escort/dancer services, which is legal in Clark County. Should some of them try to get more, or the guest wants more, then they’re breaking the law. The booklets usually advertised places out in Pahrump or Searchlight, where such services are legal. Food/drink street vendors? Unlicensed and unregulated and you can be taking your life and health at risk buying from them. Restaurants and food trucks are required by law to display their inspection certificate from the Health Department (or whatever part of the state/local government that oversees that matter.) if you don’t see the certificate, walk on by. Time share. While these ares ams, they are ‘legitimate’ ones. Actual businesses that know how to spot suckers.

I've heard good things about the bookstore Writer's Block around the Arts District I think, that's nice to shop in with different events and activities. Maybe one day you'll find the book for you there!

You didn't do the biggest trap on the Strip - the "escorts" lurking on the sidewalks and in the casinos. I'm a single, mid-50s guy who visits fairly regularly and they're like mosquitos - they just keep coming at you. And I really wish you'd do a video on what it was like during the hurricane/tropstorm that went over Vegas.

Yep. We fell for the time share. We were promised $50 cash, $50 Amazon card and a $100 restaurant gift card. We got the first two no problem. The restaurant card, I couldn't find a restaurant anywhere I could use it at.

Everything in Vegas is a tourist trap. You'll probably spend less money on these street performers than spending 100s or 1000s of dollars on gambling.

i got approached by a time share person i literally was curious to see what it was and they were friendly people but at the end they knew their time was wasted so we literally shared time together that was wasted.

i havent come across these monks... but, i want to know if they have an actual permit, representing an actual temple, it sounds really sketchy.. they are like the street "rappers" pushing CD's on you, for music you have never heard, may not like, may not even BE safe to put into your computer ( computer virus played into your PC via CD player,, yea, like THAT couldnt happen )... they want $15-20 or more.. for a "non" artist.. and they can get upset if you "low ball" them.. you dont need a pissed off wannabe ruining your vacation.. i lived in the Time Share capitol of the US, Branson MO.. a Timeshare in almost every restaurant, every show place ( theirs like 50 theaters and over 100 shows ).. so ive run into pressure everywhere.. and these things run TYPICALLY 3.5 hrs.. they put the screws to you, you dont know where you can even exit the building from, yea, its filled with financial predators who will make it sound SO so so reasonable DONT BUY TIMESHARES ! ! !! you own NOTHING but are responsible for bills for life... dont do it.. when i worked Security at Caesars Palace.. WE referred to them as the "Snap snap " guys.. as they go " Snapsnap" with the cards to get your attention. they have spotters that watch for Police or ICE.. as 90% are all illegals working this sex grift.. prostitution INSIDE CITY LIMITS is illegal...you have no recourse if you get ripped off... side note.....anytime you have people being "herded" into a tight group,,, watch for PICKPOCKETS working the crowd as well. i wouldnt put it past the "dancers" or other performers to team up with pickpockets. taking THAT long lets a team of good pickpockets to spend a lot of time to find the easy targets..
