I wish you would have actually walked through all the steps and not just discussed them. I would like to see seeds where you germinate them and what they look like. I would like to see what they look like when you move them to the Garden Tower as well. I own one and have had 2 unsuccessful growing years. I know some of what I need to change, but I need visuals. Thanks.

Most gardeners are used to adding multiple seeds in a soil medium, but this is done to increase germination success. Rarely do you ever plant multiple plants together in soil. Do I understand correctly that even with 100% success in germinating multiple seeds in 1 rockwool cube, you do not cull any seedlings, but plant whatever has germinated?
@TrueGarden
@TrueGarden Год назад
Hi Cathy. It depends on what you are seeding. For tomatoes, squash & other large fruiting plants if you sow more than one seed to ensure germination, you will pull any other sprouts leaving just one. Leaf lettuces we seed with multiple and let them all grow to have a large bountiful bouquet.

Thanks for the video, we just got our tower and we need some advice please. We transplanted our baby greens when they spouted like the book said, they are growing but its been 3-4 days and we have what looks like white mold on those rockwool cubes now. It's along the backside of them towards the inside of the tower and at the very top of them. Why is that happening and what should we do? The cubes in the starter tray with the regular greens that we have not transplanted yet do not have any white mold on them. Please help, thank you in advance!
@TrueGarden
@TrueGarden 9 месяцев назад
It’s a friend, not a foe. The type of mold that you are most likely to encounter on (or in) indoor gardening products or hydroponic systems is called Trichoderma. Trichoderma is actually an incredibly beneficial ally to your garden. Some gardeners will actually deliberately inoculate, or introduce, Trichoderma due to the slew of benefits it offers - especially during the root development stages of the plant’s life. Trichoderma will increase root mass, help boost your plants immunity and has a lot of other impressive benefits as well. So if you see ‘white fuzzy stuff’ on your rockwool, embrace it!

@@TrueGarden that’s such a relief thanks so much! The white has turned into a brown over the past couple of days. Is the brown a non harmful algae from the lights hitting the rockwool or what would brown be on the top and down the side of the rockwool where the water drips on? Thanks so much, we are clearly new haha

I didn't read the manual because I already know how to start seeds. I'm not sure what the book says but I can tell you what works for me. For "most" seeds soak rock wool 20 minutes, add 3-4 seeds, cover with perlite and put under a dome. After a seed sprouts I take out the cube put it in another tray with a small amount of distilled water (seedlings don't like chlorine) If it's spinach seeds I use a different process. Mix 2 cups water with 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, wet a paper towel with the mixture, sprinkle on the spinach seeds, place the folded up paper towel in a ziplock bag and put it in a dark place for 36 hours. After 36 hours check the seeds if you see a tiny white sprout it's ready to go in the rock wool. You can germinate spinach seeds on a heat mat but the germination rate will be lower but it will be faster. I don't put mine on the heat mat I just put the baggie in a dark cabinet. Hope that helps.

I’m having to buy grow light starter trays. Going by the instructions in the manual didn’t work for me. It caused the seeds to germinate and grow lanky. Friends of mine suggested the grow light starter trays as that is how they did it and it worked well for them. This is my 4th attempt so now that I have the grow light trays I’m hoping it goes well for me as it did for them.

I watched a video where someone just started their seedlings in the tower garden. I tried it myself and it works. You just have to cut back some seedlings as it grows so they don't get leggy. Make sure you leave the strongest looking seedling so it can keep growing. I hope this helps.

I just bought a tower garden last month. It's growing so fast in my garage at 3000 elev in NC I can't eat it all. We have the flex. We built a light set up with PVC and mylar that reflects the light. I use shop lights 6000 lumens. Don't give up. The food you get at the grocery store is not fresh nor always safe to eat. This will pay for itself in three months with these inflated prices of groceries. Just be patient and follow the instructions. It's worth it.

The rock wool can be reused by steam cleaning them of algae build up? So we would have not to waste the volcanic rock and the expenditure of electricity and heat from the melt and spin and mold process? Also it is best to have diameter of larger hole so that bouquet forms, not a tiny hole. I can only purchase through amazon.

Once a plant grows in the rock wool, the rock wool tends to be too degraded to use again. We suggest starting fresh if you use rock wool. We no longer grow in rock wool, we have changed to 100% organic Coco Coir which is made from discarded coconut husks.

Hello! We grew in rock wool for years without any issues. rock wool is spun lava rock. We transitioned to coco coir because it is 100% certified organic. Coco Coir is made from the coconut husk. What was once considered a waste and a byproduct of the coconut industry is now a major staple of growers all around the world. Coco coir is sought after by most growers for its excellent water holding capacity as well as an amazing ability to transfer nutrients to the plant.

@@TrueGarden Thanks for your quick reply. I am going to answer in a way so that you can understand one of your niche markets more. As a religious Jew, my lettuce needs to be "kosher" which means "no bugs which are visible in size to a normal healthy eye" can be in my lettuce. As such, Rockwool is the way to go for me. I have experience using Coco Coir in the past to grow seeds and experienced bugs. I suspect their eggs were already in the Coco Coir I purchased but I could be mistaken. Have you had experience with thrips or other bugs in the Coco Coir? I am not 100% convinced the bugs came from the Coco Coir which is why I am asking. But just to let you know, for business purposes, the cost of kosher lettuce is expensive and we now have our Tower Garden in the hopes of growing bug-free lettuce in large quantities for our family to eat. I am keeping all houseplants with soil very far away from our tower (best not to have any soil in the house at all). With our Tower Garden, we will hopefully get to eat lots of different kinds of kosher lettuce regularly and it will be very fresh. I believe, as more religious Jews like myself purchase the Tower Garden, the idea is going to catch on quickly which could lead to noticeably increased sales for your company. Your marketing people might want to look into this niche market. Maybe take out an advertisement in "Mishpacha" magazine or other Orthodox Jewish publications as a test run and see what happens. "Grow your own kosher lettuce at home. Eat many different varieties of lettuce. Eat healthy fresh lettuce every day and save money all at the same time."
