I wouldn’t harvest them all at the same time. I would plant the kind where I could take a few leaves off of each plant and keep them growing for a long time, just taking a few leaves. Getting a whole salad each day… This is an amazing idea. A wonderful use of a narrow space! Very creative!

I use the bottles as a mini greenhouse when I first plant out, but this is a great idea for saving space in smaller gardens. 👍

This is so simple it’s brilliant! Best inexpensive Vertical Tower Garden I’ve seen. Reusing plastic bottles to easily and efficiently feed yourself! I love it. So many ways to modify to suit different needs. I’ll add a pump at the bottom, pipe it to the top, and use clay balls as media for a hydroponic setup. Thanks again.

You're also feed yourself micro plastics and chemicals that plastic is made out of. You should NOT eat food made grown in plastic.
@ruidadgmailcanada8508
@ruidadgmailcanada8508 2 года назад
@TreeGrower It doesn’t really matter if it’s BPA free. What they replaced BPA with in any plastic you’ll come across is still structurally the same, even in the same chemical family. They’re all plasticizers so their job is to keep plastic from being brittle and breaking. They’re all still endocrine disrupters. So you’d have to go back to 19th century living in a very remote area to avoid that..good luck. Also big thank you to the corrupt FDA for approving it all. So the idea in the video is ingenious… re-use waste bottles to efficiently grow food vertically in confined space with extremely low cost and minimal skill to build. So effective and accessible it’s ingenious.
@ruidadgmailcanada8508
@ruidadgmailcanada8508 2 года назад
@@thinkfloyd2594 Sorry. The damage is done. Ever touch plastic? Ever eat any food that wasn’t grown in your own yard? How about a thermally printed receipt (since the mid 1990’s)? Unless you were born and raised in the 19th century, you’ve been well exposed to endocrine disrupters (and worse) your whole life. This is reusing waste, growing your own food, inexpensive, simple, low skill to build and teaches food independence. It’ll save lives, and improve health.

The bottles are food grade plastic, so there's no problem.
@islandgal500
@islandgal500 Год назад
@@halibaitor I have heard that many of those plastic bottles will only be safe for a few uses. After a longer time, the stuff in the plastic deteriorates and you are left with a slightly unsafe container. People used to reuse the bottles as water bottles by refilling them but safer to buy an actual bottle meant for reuse. I'd have to plant lettuce another way since I don't buy water or soda bottles that I could do this project. Lettuce prices have gone crazy; one head of lettuce in our only local store now costs more than I could buy a nice roast in pre-pandemic time! Will be using my indoor plant lights for lettuce this winter! Also going to grow assorted sprouts.

@dapperdingo
@dapperdingo 2 года назад
You can cut one or two leaves off at a time from each plant so that all of the plants continue growing for a long time or up until they want to go to seed. With a few more of those contraptions you could have yourself a small to medium sized salad every day, along with the chives, tomatoes, Swiss chard, etc., that you can grow in 3 gallon buckets on the side.

@miriamrobarts
@miriamrobarts 2 года назад
I've heard you can harvest lettuce & it will re-grow. They call it "Cut & Come Again". You can do this twice (for a total of 3 harvests), but after that, the lettuce will be too bitter. (I think it gets a stronger flavor each time.) As another commenter said, another method is to just pick off the lower, older leaves from each plant & leave the younger leaves to harvest later.
