These guys are so funny. I remember mine. He asked the group how many of us were Americans. Of course a few of us raise our hands. He goes...”and just think, if you all would have just paid your taxes all this lovely history could have been yours!”
Well as a descendant of the vikings I would have said "If we actually wanted it, we would just have taken it" ;P But to be fair much of the history in Britain is also our history, as much comes from vikings that settled down there.
@@markmatiu5562 I get it completely, I'm english myself, but if you rant and rave like that against anything that you don't agree with then you're just wasting your time - in both their defenses, yes, there were English before the vikings and the vikings only settles a short amount of time, however, that period that they did settle, they made a huge impact on England (especially up north). It would be ignorant to say all of England has viking background but it just as much so to say that they didn't have any influence in our culture.

Wonderful tour. The Yeoman Warder is fantastic, so very well versed in the history of the Tower. Hard to believe that America is so new compared to English historical sites. Really puts it in perspective.
This is a man that has seen some stuff. He knows how the world works. I would love to take this tour. A man of wisdom not fooled by historical propaganda. I love it.
I'm pretty sure Lindy went to one of his tours and did a video on him years ago. It would take some time to go through his videos to find it but it's worth it.
when i watch BBCnewsreaders, they sit with laptops and auto screens for half an hour. William did this for an hour without scripts. and endured his public. a great GREAT man of professional means. salute you sir.
@@JWB86 well, both parties talk to the public and educate them either with history or modern news. The only point I was making was Bill didn't need notes, scripts or auto Q devices. He did it from memory and I will bow down to the fact newsreaders don't read same lines everyday. Anyway best wishes to you
I remember my youngest son the first time at the age of about six the first time he saw a yeoman warder ( Beefeater) at the Tower Of London shouting "look dad a beefburger" and the guy heard him.
Truly brilliant and engaging tour, I was fully captured for the whole 54 minute video which is a rarity on RU-vid. I recall a former Yeoman warden occasionally come into the shop I worked in, he was always similar character to this man, no nonsense and good stories to tell. I wish I knew more about him. Cederic is a Hythe Legend.
@@carissamace I think he may be back as my mother in law just sent me a pic as shes at the tower with my daughter and I'm sure it was him in the photo.
When I lived in London I went to the tower soooo many times I could do this tour off by heart!!! I had a lot of friends and family visit and my boss got free tickets so we went a lot
wow you got to film the chapel. I've been watching dozens of these tour videos and this probably the first one with footage of the inside...that isn't a documentary of course.

Omg thank you for posting this! My family and I visited London about 5 yrs ago so our kids could see the sights and learn our history. This Yeoman is well known as a guide, there is no wonder why. He is thorough, super knowledgeable, funny, witty, he's engaging. The best tour guide ever! And he's also a veteran soldier ❤
Bit of a crime that in 500 years, its the first time they've started making redundancies amongst them. I'm sure they could of made redundancies elsewhere or paid the exec team less money during the pandemic. Especially when being redundant from this role means having to also buy a new house due to the house coming with the job.

I'm proud to be an American and I am also proud to have English blood in my veins, my nana great nana and aunt were from London I hope to one day go to London and visit the tower and other awesome historical places
What you have there is a typical Army sense of humour. It is mostly just like that except for the language, which is usually a lot more fruity, but that adds to the fun. Normally you roll up, this is the light version. The culture may well have changed, but the comedy is the same ..... irony :)
William wasn't French, would not have thought of himself as French. He was Norman, (Norse man). They had conquered an area of France 150 years previous. Brilliant tour :-)
Yes! And that is why ,the Channel Island's, last of the Duchy of Normandy, own England :-) Stil not wise to tell a Norman there are French. Actually the Norseman were given the land in an attempt to keepthem quiet. Didn't work though.
Love this man, his guy fawkes story was very bad, in the sense that he boiled it down to "bible in english" as their only motivation?. But i get that it was a clever comparison to modern-day happenings
