Sounds like Jordon has got some pipes but he has a lot of homework to do to get into the TOP groove. This is especially evident when contrasted against Ray Greene.
And good singers, sax players and drummers are a dime a dozen..beast lead tpt players playing in the right style with great accuracy at the volume the band plays at? A very nice find.🎉
. I don't think he'll last long. Great singer...but he doesn't have that soul sound. I mean the REAL soul sound. Plus I saw another video where he played rhythm guitar while he wasn't singing. A big no-no
@@oldschoolfunkster1 Every since Larry Braggs leaving and Rocco's passing, the band hasn't been the same. And now David Garibaldi retired, I hope they are still worth the 4 hours drive (in total) to go see them.
@@oldschoolfunkster1 Yes, seems like there's never a vocal that's content to be the vocal for TOP. Seems they start seeing greener pastures and off they go. We don't hear much about Larry Braggs anymore, do we?
@@laming2006 ... Last I heard about Larry, he was in the latest lineup for The Temptations group. Plus I've seen videos of him singing TOP songs with an all-girl group. On the verge of coming off racial in my next opinion, I believe TOP is better when they have a Black lead singer. Tom Bowes lasted a long time with them, recorded about 4 CDs but he was still missing that soulful sound. He was great on the slow jams, but you can hear him really struggling when he sings the high notes and it's obvious. Personally, I don't think this new guy will last long. He doesn't have the required energetic stage presence.
@oldschoolfunkster1. I agree he is not right for TOP. I just heard him do You’re Still a Young Man and thought he totally ruined it. Almost unrecognizable and it has been there signature song over the years. I thought Ray Greene has really stepped up since he was previously with the band. Too bad it’s only temporary.
I totally agree. No off beat funk beats. It's going to be hard to find a replacement for Mr. Garibaldi. Hope Emilio insists on finding the closest drummer to David. He's out there somewhere waiting for his shot.
@@Topjunkie-r4s ... I'm still hanging on for them. That's how much I love their music. Even though I am just a guitar player, they are all icons to me. They made me appreciate the challenging music of ALL instruments. Even though I've heard them in concert over 50 times, they never cease to amaze me. I still get goose bumps when I hear the brass shrills in harmony. Or their harmonious background vocals. I WILL be in mourning when my favorite band of all time is never more. The originals are my idols.
@@oldschoolfunkster1 Im right there with you. I saw them back in November and it was hard to watch. The band has been so good to me. I knew it was over for me when DG retired from the road. He and I are friends with DG on the outside - as a drummer he has let me into the Dahlia Lama Funk Vault for the last 20 years. As a friend he has taken even better care of me. Really funny guy - genuinely nice person. I was sad over the last few years having taken over 500 different friends and family members to see their shows. But, I now look at it this way - I got to see the best band to ever get on a stage 106 times. They are in the history books. It was a GREAT ride and I am eternally grateful to Mimi and DG for the personal things they have done for me and my friends over the last few decades - CLASS ACTS!
@@Topjunkie-r4s ... Wow! You really had a close interpersonal view other fans just dream of. You're right. It's a miracle that they've lasted this long in the chew 'em up music business. But that's just a testament to how great they are. I dread the day Emilio says "We're done". But eventually that day will come. I've played guitar for over 50 years. THEY are the reason I started playing an instrument. Funny, I must have talked about them alot when I was in Jr. High school because someone wrote about me liking TOP in my yearbook. Lol. If they do retire like David, I'll understand. We're ALL getting old and we can't do everything we used to do so easily. And these guys still tour like rock stars!! The only hope we have is, I know that music runs deep in their veins and they won't stop playing. So maybe we'll see and get more recordings from them. 🤞🤞
No need to worry - That is Mike McCarthy from the Tampa area. Got to talk with him in FL. He has a god business in FL so he probably wouldn’t take the job. But if anyone was going to replace Tommy P - Mike would be the guy.
