T.O.P just funked up a ton of Koreans in Seoul yesterday; I was there and couldn't believe the crowd was singing their tunes. What a performance. After the concert ALL musicians signed autographs in a lobby filled wall to wall with local fans. That's what makes these professionals liked so much by all...they are so down to earth. @KMACISTHEKANG I purchased David's signature snare drum a few months ago and with a little work and a lot of trepidation (that story is whole other subject involving a very apathetic manufacturer and the nightmares that can involve), I have that funky pop with fatness and tone that you hear on this video. It has become my very favorite of snare drums and I don't see myself replacing it anytime in the future.

Don't know about the loud snare, but sure about the paradiddles there seem to be. They're Garibaldi's incredible ghost notes. He usually plays them, in a 4/4 bar, on the last two sixteenth notes of the first and third quarter, and on the 2nd and 3rd sixteenths of the second and fourth quarter. Cheers!

Right. At 3:39 there is a timekeeping problem and that is very easy to hear. But guys; Garibaldi has been so important to TOP, so calm down. He has been such an inspiration to me and thousands of other drummers during the last four decades. All drummers can have a day off..At least we can all make mistakes.

I agree with you, we should all just enjoy the music. I'm not saying I didn't love this, or that Steve Gadd did anything wrong, or even sped up for that matter, but being a drummer myself, I can see how the slightest tempo change can tick them off. Does it mean they should let youtubers know about it? No. But the fact that you called them "so called 'drummers' " did offend me a little bit. Musicians are critical of each other.

haha i love it when ppl get so mad. just for the record i am a grade 8 drummer and have worked in studios all of my professional life so i know a thing or two about gating. this drum sound is fine. if you did your research on garbaldi ud know that his ghost notes and comping are that good

@malko42 Well yes, there is a slight mistake, but among non-proffesional drummers it wouldn't even be considered one, and besides, it doesn't speed up/slow down/ruin the thing a slightest bit.

@alexidrummer Even if they did speed up, Dave is probably one of the best drummers in history. I just saw Tower of Power yesterday at Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, and there was more energy in that show than even the most insane and intense metal shows I've been to.

I dont think its right to crit anything in a track like this based on an overly compressed youtube video. Sounds like he's playing very tight ghost notes that are being amplified either by the compressors used in the original live mix OR the compression used by youtube during the upload. Probably a combination of the two. Either way, the effect is the same: everything gets compressed to the same volume, which can make things sound VERY busy. Despite this, fantastic track. Love it! :)

too true!!! If you play live in an environment of pure groove, when you drive the train and it's moving, it'll start getting a little fast. T.O.P. live is always faster then the lp or dvd ! I would give any thing to have Garibaldi as my drummer...........

I play drums in 2 different bands and practice with a metronome quite a bit. Have been for 30 - odd years. The metronome helps my sense of tempo AND makes me a smoother player. That being said, when it's time to perform or record, the metronome stays at home... the music must be allowed to BREATHE. Try putting a metronome against some of the old Chicago tunes. You'll be surprised how much the tempo fluctuates on some of their greatest hits!
