Which of Disney's thematic drop tower rides is the best?
And who the heck came up with the idea of adding an elaborate story to a drop tower ride?
And how does Rocket the Raccoon get off the top of the elevator as it falls?

Seeing the 13 minute wait on the DCA Tower of Terror clip made me so sad, you never get to see it that low anymore :( Also this video made me want to ride the Florida one again so bad! I was a little baby who hated every drop tower last time we rode it, but the GotG ride really helped me warm up to them and I think I'd enjoy it more now.

Another reason I wouldn’t give DisneySea’s version the #1 spot is that unlike the others it has an over the shoulder seatbelt like a car. That takes away some of the air time the others have and makes the drop sequence slightly less thrilling.
@Disneylander
@Disneylander Год назад
I didn't know that! But I definitely agree. I imagine a full seatbelt would feel a bit too "safe" to be as thrilling as the others.
@IndyCoasterCreator

I definitely agree with this, the airtime on the others is genuinely some of the best airtime on any ride ever, the over the shoulder seatbelt would definitely hinder that. It’s theme looks awesome though

Since its 2019 major refurbishment and story expansion the Paris tower has become its own unique version from the old DCA version. Each of the 3 shafts in Paris now has a different story with different effects and drop sequences which deliver an onboard ride experience much closer in quality to the original in my opinion. Definitely worth having a look into the 3 different shafts and their stories because it definitely doesn't give the Paris version credit calling it a clone of the DCA one anymore with those significant changes.

Fun fact: while the Tower of Terror in Florida is the only tower with the trackless ride systems, it was one of the cheaper towers to make costing around $140 million dollars, while the one in Paris costed around 180 million euros because of construction standards. I'm still quite pissed they didn't use the trackless system for the tower in disneysea in favor of faster boarding. Also, the drop sequences in tokyo aren't as intense as the other sequences in the other towers for some reason, but they have an event every off season that uses the drop sequences in the florida version of the ride.

In the Paris version it actually has 3 stories, The original, and 2 others involving the little girl. This little girl is actually the little girl in the family that was in the elevator.
@vizior_monteur9130
@vizior_monteur9130 Год назад
By the way, if you didn’t know that : The Walt Disney Studios one has 3 different stories so you’ll never know what you’ll get- When you said "who’s this little girl" at around 4:51, if you didn’t know in the pre-show of the Florida Version there is this little girl. So they used her, plus it’s much more thrilling! And the three versions’ name are : 1. La Cinquième Dimension = Its the original one used in the California Adventure and at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World- 2. La petite fille = The Little Girl ; it’s the little girl and it’s much more longer and thrilling! 3. La cage à monstre = The cage of monsters ; and the special abilities with this ride is that if we scream louder and louder the monsters will roar. _________________________________ So my ratings for all the Tower of Terrors are : 5. Hollywood Tower Hotel, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror California Adventure. 4. Tower of Terror : Mission Breakout Guardians of the Galaxy California Adventure. 3. The Hollywood Tower Hotel, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Walt Disney Studios. 2. Tokyo Disney Sea’s, Hotel Hightower Tower of Terror. 1. The Hollywood Tower, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Hollywood Studios - Walt Disney World. Anyway here’s my opinion I hope you’re doing fine now! I hope we’ll have other videos like that and continue like that! See ya later and…. *Peace!* *(I modified 3 to 2 and 2 to 3)*

Yeah, I didn't learn this until after posting the video, but I think it's pretty cool! I always like when rides have random changes like that. It makes my perception of the ride a bit higher, but my list ultimately remains unchanged due to the overall themeing in WDS. Thanks, though! Great list!

First of YAY YOU ARE BACK! Welcome back to the world of video! Second I never rode any of the TOT'S but from what I have seen here in your video I would seem to agree with your list. However I was with you there when they changed TOT at CaliAdventure to Mission Breakout in being upset because to me it didnt make sense. Until they announced the new Avengers campus then it all fit together nicely. BUT....In my opinion I still dont think Mission Breakout fits this ride system though. It just seems forced. I would rather of them have kept TOT as part of Hollywood backlot instead of being MB as apart of the Avengers Campus.

The Guardians tower is SUPER weird as a concept, but, like I said, I think it really works. If I didn't know the ride used to be something else, I would easily assume they came up with the idea and built the Guardians ride.frim scratch...it honestly SHOULDN'T work, but it really does and feels natural in my opinion.

@@Disneylander Even if they did build that from ground up it still seems weak. Id rather them tear it down and build something better if they had the room. Like I would of rather it be GOTG Cosmic Rewind at Epcot. Now that ride fits much better. Once again our east coast counterpart having the superior ride lol.

I've ridden all versions except Guardians of the Galaxy and I love them all but despite the great theming, I've found the TDS ride to be substantially tamer than other ToT's. Fine on the positive g's, very light on airtime / negative g's. In reality, it is the DCA version that was a carbon copy of the Paris' ToT and not the other way around, despite the construction / opening dates. The plans, ride system and design of the tower were made for Paris long before, but due to financial issues it went to DCA first as a quick e-ticket addition, and Paris last. The Pueblo Deco style of the tower was chosen to fit in WDS. The Paris version is also the only one built entirely in concrete, which was pretty costly, and has more extensive and refined theming than the DCA one had (especially the sides, the exit corridor, refined patinas, artisanal stained glass, etc.). The "cheap" version is the DCA ToT, not Paris' one. One good indication of the "Paris design" being used in DCA is the style, lobby and storyline's hotel date. Disney usually tries to push "exotism" : Tokyo DisneySea's Indiana Jones Adventure has an Aztec theming because an Indian inspired one (like the Disneyland version) would feel a little too close to home. Disneyland's Haunted Mansion has a New Orleans theme while the MK's Haunted Mansion has a Dutch neo Gothic style as the Southern / New Orleans theme wouldn't be "exotic" enough in Florida. Just like Paris castle was pink and super fairytale-like from day one, as Europe in general and France in particular have real castles everywhere. Another grey and realistic castle wouldn't impress European and French visitors much. The original ToT in Florida has a lobby ceiling VERY reminiscent of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel lobby in downtown L.A. and it fits perfectly as it's located in the Hollywood studios park and called Hollywood Tower Hotel. It's located thousands of miles away from its inspiration, so it's fine. DCA, on the other hand, is not far from the real Hollywood. And the Pueblo Deco style feels right at home in SoCal but a bit too "common" in DCA, as there's nothing very exotic in having a Hollywood styled attraction next to a fake Sunset boulevard only a few miles from the real deal, even if the park is themed about California. It was the complete design made for Paris years before, and temporary shelved awaiting DLRP's financial recovery, that was rushed to DCA and used "as is" to quickly and not too expensively add a crowd magnet e-ticket. Without the financial and attendance troubles at the time and the rush to build something fast and relatively cheap, DCA probably would have had its own different ToT theming instead of the one tailored for Paris, or an entirely different attraction altogether. In some footage of the DCA ToT construction you can briefly catch a glimpse of theming plans with references to Paris on it. The Paris ToT was initially planned to open with the WDS park but was shelved for financial reasons. Before its construction, you could find references and already physical hints of a matching style around the location. The architectural style was already there at the park's inauguration. If memory's right, there were toilets and ornate fences in the corresponding style, plus a sitting location with several HTH logos (la Terrasse I think) next to the perfectly sized lot left empty for the future ToT. I remember being overly excited seeing these hints at the upcoming tower when visiting WDS the first time in spring 2002, two months after inauguration. It was exactly like the space reserved for Space Mountain in Discoveryland and the two round decorative "holes" on the side of Videopolis theater that were meant to connect a dual bridge to the then future "Discovery Mountain" (original name for Paris' Space Mountain right up to very close to the attraction's inauguration, so much that you could find theming and ornaments in Discoveryland and even on the trains displaying "DM" instead of "SM'). And well before all this, in the 80's, a drop / fall ride was imagined for Disneyland Paris' Frontierland and themed around geysers. It wasn't pursued much further and later lead to the original TZToT that is in Florida. But the idea of a drop / fall ride for Paris remained : it would instead be Tower of Terror (as you can find it on some rare Paris WDS concept arts dating back to the late 90's / turn of the Millennium). The attraction storyline's era (hotel's fictional opening) and corresponding architecture were changed for Paris to 1929 because 1917, like in Florida's ToT, would be too reminiscent of World War 1 which Europe was knee-deep in and ravaged by at the time. 1929 was a nicer time in Europe and in Europeans' common memory : about halfway between both World Wars and the 1920's were "les années folles" in Paris or "die Goldene Zwanziger" in Berlin (European equivalents to the Roaring Twenties that ended in the early 30's in Europe). The 1929 date was originally *only* meant for Paris as it would be a rather curious choice of date for DCA's ToT : the 1929 Wall Street crash happened between October 24th and 29th of that year. The main effects of the Great Crash and subsequent Great Depression only hit Europe a bit later in the early 1930's (1931 in France, 1931 to 1932 in Germany with the German bank crisis and hitler's election). Much of the original storyline and Hollywood ambiance requiring the fictional events to unfold in 1939, they kept it for Paris version despite being right at the beginning of WWII in Europe. It would have been a shame not to be able to hear Vera Lynn's "We'll meet again" from 1939 echoing in the queue. And the 1929 fictional opening date conveniently allows for a 10 year anniversary justification to fit with the storyline. The color palette of the Paris design was also chosen to better pop in the less sunny / more grainy weather there (like it's done with Main Street buildings, the castle, etc.) and to fit with the wam colored existing soundstage buildings of WDS. So, if your ranking of the original ToT versions of DCA and WDS is influenced by the cloning, you should put WDS version above DCA's. 😉 As to your ranking, I'll just say this : ride them all before judging. You'll be surprised. P.S. As much as I loved TDS ToT's theming, I was quite disturbed by the part of the storyline where Hightower extinguishes his cigar on the idol's head. That felt way too cruel and out of place in a Disney park, which contrasted with the rather tame drop sequences compared to other ToT versions. The lowest thrill level of them all. Just like TDS Raging Spirits is a less intense version of Paris Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril.

The Paris ride originally had the exact same story and effects as the California ride, but in 2019, "A New Dimension of Chills" was introduced. The general story remains the same, but was "expanded" on. The ride now gives one of three random storylines, all centering on the little girl who boards the elevator in all three of the Twilight Zone rides. If some of the random versions show the other guests instead of the girl, I was unaware of that, but couldn't find it in my research.

You might want to bump Paris's Tower of Terror above Mission Breakout The problem with Mission Breakout is the new things they added: the different drop profiles in each shaft and new special effects, they could've done that with Tower of Terror in California, if they needed to update Tower of Terror in California, they could've just added the new different drop profiles and special effects. Paris's Tower of Terror getting that treatment and the fact that Avengers Campus is sitting next to Tower of Terror without any problem proves just how unnecessary Mission Breakout was and was only made cause Disney is too in a hurry and desparate to add a Marvel attraction in their Disney Parks. It doesn't even help Mission Breakout is such an eye sore in Disney California Adventure since it completely breaks the cohesion and immersion of the park, The Hollywood Tower Hotel blends so well with Carthay Circle Theater, so the fact that a weird looking pipe building that looks like an oil plant sitting behind Carthay Circle Theater just breaks the belivability that you are in a Disney park celebrating California, more so when Buena Vista Street and Hollywoodland are supposed to blend together and Hollywoodland also lost its main attraction. Tower of Terror is basically the first victim of IP dumping in the Disney Parks which will end up becoming prevalent when Paradise Pier and Space Mountain were slapped with Pixar Pier and Hyperspace Mountain and most of the expansion for the Disney Parks are heavily focused on IP based areas, which isn't necessarily bad, but if it's only slapped into a Disney Park when it doesn't really fit with the theming and cohesion of the said park, that is when it does become problematic (Disney California Adventure is the biggest victim to IP dump out of the Disney Parks), the only time an IP based area actually works well with the park is Pandora - The World of Avatar in Disney's Animal Kingdom since it still fits well with the theme of nature and life.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at WDW was actually a really fun ride and I liked it better than the DCA version, especially better than Mission: BREAKOUT! (unless if we’re talking about Monster After Dark which I would put it just next to the TOT at WDW because it felt like what should’ve been what the retheme of DCA’s Tower of Terror would be like) whereas Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea is the ride that I actually find really more interesting and wanting to ride sometime when I go on a trip to that place if only because it looks and feels like what every version of the Tower of Terror should, would, and could have been from the beginning (just next to the concept of the 1997 movie) and the story makes more sense than a lightning randomly struck the hotel which caused 5 people mysteriously disappeared from the elevator (which is why I even enjoyed the Tower of Terror movie as my guilty pleasure because the concept of that TV film adaptation should’ve been the concept for the ride just like how Shiriki Utundu is the concept (or plot device if you will) for Tokyo’s Tower of Terror). 👻

Another great video Bram! Wish they were more frequent but we will take what we can get!;). I thought that I wouldn’t agree with your order but I can’t fault your arguments. Strange that Tokyo with it’s bottomless bank account wouldn’t have got the moving elevator like WDW since they seem to cherry pick all of the best stuff from the U.S. parks. Even without it though, their tower and theming still look so amazing and I must go there someday. I would almost put the Guardians version in a tie for first strictly for the fact that it pulled off the impossible feat of retheming a classic e-ticket attraction so well that even most of the previous haters admit that it is better than before (including myself:). My ranking differs slightly from yours, but your reasoning is hard to argue with tbh. My ranking: 5) ToT DCA (the worst version of any ToT & too easily compared to the better version in Orlando) 4) ToT DLP (rode it for the first time this summer & the little girl plotline was soooo creepy & fanrastic.. the thematic fit outside is bad admittedly) 3) ToT WDW (should be #1 but just needs a refurb soooo bad. I agree with your reasoning but I think its just too outdated rn, with a refurb its #2 or #1 easily thanks to the facade & queue 2) GotG DCA (in terms of on-ride experience, it looks #1 hands down. The facade & outdoor theme doesn't fit but the onride experience is too unique & too incredible to not be Top 2 1) ToT TDS (never ridden it but seems perfect in every way, tbh)

lil story: first time i ever rode TOT for wdw, i remember we left the 5th dimension scene and, if you ride you’ll know, when you move into the drop shaft and look up, there’s this crack in the doors above you that open up and let you see disney world. i thought we were gonna go up, then drop a floor, to return to load. sound effects play of this weird dropping noise, then we drop. this scares me, causing me to hiccup and then start choking. nobody can hear me or notices me as i choke, (i was located at the first left back seat, and everyone else was scattered in front of me), so by the time the ride finishes, im literally gasping for air and banging my feet to get everyones attention. I accomplish this, when, a girl turns around to see me basically dying, and tries to help me. Everyone follows, trying to reach over and help me not die, and as we dock onto load, the doors open, and the first thing the bellhop does is immediately open the restraints, rush to the back, and give me the hemlich. to that guy, i say thanks for not turning me into a permanent resident.

To me the ToT in Florida and GotG in California are such different experiences that I hardly feel they’re the same ride. Florida does a perfect job at the tension, while CA is total fun! Love both of those so much!
