This is a tour of the tower of the americas in San Antonio TX. The cost to go up was $10.95 USD. in 2003 when I last visited, it was $2.00 USD. Since Landry's got hold of it. they raised the price, however this tower got a complete renovation in 2006. the elevators used to have Dewhurst buttons. Facebook: / dieselducy

I could see the tower being built from my house when I lived in San Antonio. Went up there around 1977, then again about three years ago, on a visit to San Antonio. It's a nice experience....

They changed it. When I was a kid (mid-70s), my class went there on a field trip and the observation level (catwalk) was open, with just a little guard-rail. You could just jump off, if you wanted to. Now they have plexiglass around it.

Joseph Edric They had some guy jump. landed in the lights below. For a long time you could tell which light because of the darker color.

Now that I think about it, when I was in elementary school in the late 90's I went on the tower as part of a field trip. You're right, you could just jump off. I remember being too scared to get close to the edge.

When I went to San Antonio, I stayed at the river walk plaza hotel. The place was from the 1930s, and i was told the elevators were modernized by otis seiries 1 you should film them next time you go to san antonio.

I lived there from 69 to 71. I went back for A.F. basic training in '80. The Lone Star wax museum and Sunken Gardens were both gone. What a shame.

It looks fantastic is person. It is the least attractive of the decks across America and it is the most cramped but it looks great a night and the view of SA in person is absolutely stunning. I hate how camera views make the buildings look far away and small. In person, everything is in your face and you may get vertigo. It also includes a great 4d movie of Texas. Only 5 dollars in the daytime.

yeah i agree i went there for my birthday last year it was packed as all hell cause my birthday is valentines day but the viewing deck and restaurant were both awesome and i saw the 4d film too that was neat as well i got a wood mockup of it from the shop there but my dog chewed it up never got to making it anyway

My father & i were in SA -1968/'69 for business reasons. One item on the Must Visit sites was the Tower. The views are panoramic ...The Tower was built for the the 1968 Hemisphere ( World's Fair ).It was different back then.Now Tillman Fertitta has gussied it all up.. Go. Enjoy..

Reminds me of the Scanlon Building (Ontario, CN). Difference is, the front is curved, where the glass inner doors and side panels are. When it's windy, those lifts shake. :) Nice operator in the beginning! Nice views, and you didn't get a good shot as the short MPE's to the outer decks, still, I "Thumbs-Up"ped it. (Didn't register on my end.)

Just like the Marriott World Center (East Tower) in Orlando, FL. For the elevator and its speed. The elevator runs up very fast up to 700 FPM. This one is SUPER DUPER VERY fast up to (probably 1300 FPM.) For the view. The view is so much higher (even if you scared of heights) Aside from 28 stories of the East Tower. This is one is 75 stories. And it beats the 48 story (theirs have Schindler Miconic 10) at The Marriott Marquis in Times Square, NY

I ate there in the late 90s and I found the food to be great. I do not know what the history of the ownership was, though. I heard the food was strange in the early 90s.

Yep I looked it up i was right 610 feet vs 750 for old 7 wtc and the TOA respectively the new 7 is closer but still shorter at 741 feet

i know elevators have inner and outer doors i remember when i went a few years back the inner one as he showed was a 3 part door dont remember the outside although i dont know if an elevator could have a 2 part outer and 3 part inner or if theyre a combined set

@CaptainElevator42189 : For a 750 feet travel distance, do you think this travels 1000 FPM, 1200 FPM, 1400 FPM, or 1600 FPM? I know this is a gearless traction and not GEN 2 since GEN 2's travel up to 500 FPM speed.
