No one commented on Townes improv freestyle??!!! “Vincent Van Gogh, Edgar Allen Poe, and Plato, I suppose.”!! People always said how clever he was. I was thinking of a rhythm in real time and he delivered. One of the best, love that no one noticed: well some did for sure.
In my opinion You Win Again is one of the greatest country songs ever written! It came in 1952 toward the end of Hanks Life! The simplistic genius of the song! Simple three chords with words that hit home written by a broken man who was life was blurring to rapid end with drugs and alcohol! But all the way to the end he still could put these words down that any broken hearted person could relate to! Townes singing it was a huge compliment to Hank! Townes was another tortured genius that was a great songwriter! Rest In Peace Hank and Townes! Y’all are listened too by my generation and before!!!
Oh holy hell, this is for sure the best video I’ve ever seen. An absolute legend sitting right there. Covering another legend. This footage is priceless ❤️
I'm deeply concerned that in in 100 years from now there will be no one left to thank these Greats. The world's direction does seem to oppose the truth in these perfect songs.
Emmy Lou Harris said once that she saw Townes in Greenwich Village, in NYC, in 1968 or so, at Gerdes Folk City, and that she was very impressed. She said that Townes was "like Hank Williams returned."
The news is out, all over town That you've been seen, a-runnin' 'round I know that I should leave, but then I just can't go, you win again This heart of mine, could never see What everybody knew but me Just trusting you was my great sin What can I do, you win again I'm sorry for your victim now 'Cause soon his head, like mine will bow He'll give his heart, but all in vain And someday say, you win again You have no heart, you have no shame You take true love, and give the blame I guess that I, should not complain I love you still, you win again
It’s just haunting knowing they pretty much fought the same Demons and lived such tortured lives and wrote some sad life experiences in their songs and both died on New Years Eve/ Day
@@cassandrapleasent9915 Townes had as a young person a very high IQ. By the time he started writing sons his brain was permanently damaged. He did not do well in university the before than after he was addmitted to a pre law program (not law school) but dropped out. So academic standing was luke warm at best. BUT he was obviously reasonably well read and of high natural intellegence....After all he WAS a freaking Genius.
His uncle lived right outside of San Antonio. I went to school with his cousin I was at there house one day and he was down there to get away. He was quite a character. I was about 16 or 17 back then goIng with his cousin. I got to say he could play any country song old or new.
