I made this Irish mob movie with no budget back in 2007. Enjoy. IG @mikey_odea #irishmobfilm #Irishmob #irish #irishmusic #irishrock #irishpub #irishtune #irishband #irishpeople #irish #irishmafia
Jeeeeez guys ease up. Did you click on this expecting a Scorcese movie? And its not an "Irish movie" per Dr, its a Boston crime type movie and there is a ton of Irish tradition in the area. Just like the Italian influence in Bensonhurst. Cool little movie fellas.
Johnny hickey's oxy morons movie was a classic so when I found this I expected more. See I wouldn't be as upset with this if they actually made part 2 and closed the story. This is like releasing half a movie and never giving us the second half. That's the thing it's not bad I could look past it being low budget, but i cant look past the fact it's a half a movie and they just said fuck the people who did like it and never gave us part 2.
@@ods1ODS well cause joey who played a small part in this he was a big character who didnt do much screen time though was johnny hickey the guy who starred in and wrote oxy morons.
@@ods1ODS i wouldnt mind this short at all if they actually finished part 2 i hate when games and movies just leave you hanging and never finish their shit. Its how i feel about blues and bullets the game is how i feel about this. it could of been good if they finished
Glad to see it on RU-vid, heard about this on MySpace when I was like 16 haha. Told my friend Adam who loved the departed "we are seeing this movie!" after watching the trailer. im 25 now. blast from the past for sure.
Wow. It has been a long time. I loved Myspace. I was 33 then! I better make the Townies full length version before I turn 65. Haha. Thanks for the support. - Mike
Absolutely Epic! I would love to read the script. I read in the comment there were problems shooting the end scenes at the park? This is Great! Pure Independent Brilliance. One of the Best Mob Movies ever shot. Bravo!
I grew up in Chelsea in the 80s to the early 90s when everything went to shit everywhere and there were more 2 legged rats, that movie was spot on when it came to the violence, we had mad respect for the Townies in Chelsea, salute! Same for Winter Hill and Southie, Chelsea was one of the most corrupt cities ever, we partied like rock stars and sold more drugs than CVS, I was working at a furniture store in the Bunker Hill Mall coming back from a delivery the day they shot up an entire booth of people in a jammed pack restaurant the 99, in the lunch time rush, but like the guy said, there are no more STAND-UP guys anymore like there was before it all went to shit, I fukn loved growing up back then, when people didnt break their word or their balls for anybody! Good movie, it kept me entertained and brought back good memories, ty
My father plays the main protagonist in this movie and he has since past away so this is really cool to see him many years later so healthy and so passionate about acting. Thank you for keeping this up wade Gallagher lives on!!
Hey pal. Remember me? We met quite a few times when we were filming. I still think about your dad often. I really wish he was still around. We were best friends since the day we met. Great guy. Great actor. Yes, Wade lives on forever in Townies.
I'm Irish ..100% from NYC... been over once a year since I was a kid... and I must say that is without a doubt, one of the dumbest and corniest things I've ever read
Lmao 🤡 , as a real irish man born and bred on the island this is a stupid statement, its always the so called irish that have never been to ireland or born in ireland that talk this 💩. I also lived in boston "southie" for 15yrs and this movie is a joke
Shamrock Films Mike I first seen the trailer like 8yrs ago or so. Talked to you on MySpace lol you emailed me the script, loved it. Don't forget about me if you need any extras that look totally Irish!! would love to visit Charleston hit a few pubs with you. Your friend Eddie.
Hi Eddie. Wow. We go wayyy back. I loved Myspace! It's been 10 years this month since I started filming Townies. Thanks for your continued support. Much appreciated. - M.O
I'm from the west coast but my grandfather was from Dublin. Never been to Boston but I've always loved the Dropkick Murphy's. Probably won't make it to Boston either , I work 50 hours a week and my kid lives here in Portland. Much love and respect. TAL.
my dad grew up on green street in Charlestown.... this is spot on. he said anytime someone sold drugs, stole cars, started a fight or threatened someone that this strange low volume irish music would start playing out of nowhere.
This movie seems like a good start to something that could be great :D I love the music especially. I grew up listening to Irish folk music since I was in a crib and I've always loved the history and culture of the Irish people. I recently found out through a test my parents took that my father is 35% Irish and my mother is 81% Irish as well, so needless to say I was thrilled about that. Anyway, I like that you guys are touching on the Irish Mafia because I enjoy crime drama films and I feel as though the Irish Mafia doesn't see as much attention in film as the Italian Mafia does, so this is a welcome addition to the crime drama film genre. As a writer of books and short stories, I'm actually in the process of starting a novel (currently in the research stage) about the Irish Mafia in the time of Al Capone. (Prohibition Era, circa 1920's) Hats off to you guys for putting your heart into the film making that you do. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product and how it turns out. :)
For all the comments criticizing the movie keep perspective...for the budget and the actors this film had to employ it is light years better than the standard "hood classics". Flawed? Absolutely, but given the circumstances easily watchable and enjoyable. Oxy-Morons is a better film but compared to films like state property or the one with beenie seagal and dmx with a far larger budget and access to better options, it's a superior film.
A lot of comments trashing this but the kid had no budget or production crew. It’s entertaining and done well given those factors. The ending had to be changed because they got busted in paul revere park shooting the movie. People thought there was a real shooting and cops came so after that they had to do the best they could with the ending. The main character/director is talented just needs to catch a break and keep focused and sober.
Great first cut. As an Irish American, I can appreciate what you are doing. A little more depth and detail could make this an amazing film. Would love to be a part of any future work on this project. My TV background may be of assistance. Keep up the fight to build this storyline. We are way under represented in American culture these days. Much love fam.
You should have a named this film, "The F Word" and how to use it properly, hahaha. But I'm sure you had fun making it. I grew up on Bowdoin st. I love Boston. ~Ryan~ ○it.
Wow, very good acting! I prefer your movie to any "paranormal activity" or other so called low budget movies. I think nobody can do better with so little. 🎬👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was born in Charlestown grew up in the 80s when it was the wild west. Not a bad movie but the acting is terrible. I don't recognize any of the actors as being true townies that would have made this short film a little better. Good luck on your project. To many movies abought the old Charlestown. How abought a feel good movie abought some great townies who helped change c-town for what it is now.
thats funny i made the first comment before i watched the movie. good movie brings back memories.i trained at somerville boxing club when ruiz trained there i can tell you ruiz and stoney were family
I'm in 12 minutes and 46 seconds and I'm done watching this movie it's not terrible from the get-go I get the message of the movie certain characters we're introduced too fast with no background story basically no introduction who the character is and what that person is about I'm not going to lie it got me pumped a little bit watching this the lead character was on point and that's a fact
Weird picky movie moment when u get out of prison u always havto jump ya car brother did 2 years I kept his car in storage tossed him the keys almost looked like a scene out of a movie till he had to wait around and jump it
I enjoyed walking the freedom trail through charlestown to bunker hill. What a cool town at least the part the trail goes through. Boston what a cool city with loads of history...Barking Crab
Damn I haven't seen people like this since I was a young teen. I'm 35 now. Do neighborhoods like this still exist in Boston??? Or has gentrification basically pushed out people like this??? I also remember The Boston Beat down Hardcore scene..
Pockets still exist but no where like it was gentrification has taken over. South Boston forget it done, C Town the same but Mishawum still predominantly Irish. Southie Old Colony PJ,s, Old Harbor, D St. all integrated barely any white families live there anymore driven out. Yuppies, Millennials completely taken over driving up cost of living there. The point in Southie still allot of families there generational but yes the Point to allot of new gentrification. Boston has changed in so many ways some good some bad but of course I love the old days.
If you wanna know what Boston is actually like visit the suburbs- South Shore, North Shore. True Bostonians don’t live in the city anymore. Those days are over.
my fathers matty mcdonald & i’ve always assumed The Town was loosely inspired by my father & his “crew”. i’m about to check this flick out & see how it is.
@@digitalbath. Hey bro. Thanks for chiming in. The short film Townies was far from my original script that was jacked by Affleck. The Town ended up being about 20% of my script. The other 80% of The Town script was based on the book Prince of Thieves. But all the "Florida" stuff, the scene about his father smoking cigarettes in the kitchen and few others scenes (and elements) were stolen from my script Townies. But I'm over it now. Someday I will make my movie. It won't be exactly the same as my first script (because it would look like I'm copying The Town) but it will certainly be better than the Town in every way. None of that sappy romance shit. Just pure gangster badassery. Respect to you and your father. Stay solid. M.O.
The characters of this heritage would be called, "shanty Irish" back "in the day" . The reason why most left Charlestown, and Southie in the 1970's was due to their negative influence. . Folks who left were called "lace curtain Irish" by gangsters. And many families who left the area, became " the real Lace" aka very rich.
