as a eastern europe citizen, the vid 0:57 is so relatable. when you are growing up in this environment, and your parents are saying you "study hard", there are a silent part in this "to not to live like that"

This is, indeed, toxic. Nothing wrong about working hard but life is more than just pushing through and showing people how good you are. Sometimes you gotta take a break and that’s okay too.

“I am the backup I have nobody to fall back on.” This almost made me tear up because this is what I have been telling myself so I can keep pushing forward.

She's gonna wake up at the end of her educational journey just to know that it was pointless effort towards a directionless path

Sometimes though, hard work doesn't pay off sometimes there isn't a prize waiting for you at the end of the dark tunnel sometimes it's blank. Nothing. and you can feel it, crushing and breaking you inside out. It took you so long to learn to stand up on your own and barely a second to knock you off your feet again. But that's the thing life sucks and hard work isn't the key at times but that shouldn't stop you. Shouldn't make you stop hoping. Because as Sylvester Stallone said _"You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But, it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done"_

You might think this is toxic, but sometimes you don't have a choice. During my medical studies I was constantly on the verge of homelessness and starvation and I knew I couldn't afford to fail a year. I studied 24/7 because I had no other choice.

I get motivation from this. I may have worse grades but I know where I'm heading to. My goals are clearer than my vision.

the worst thing about wanting academic validation iswhen you’re happy with a grade because you thought you would get a lower grade but then they say: “that’s it? don’t you usually get that much?” with a tone that just stabs you in the heart.

I’m an honor society student and have relatively high grades but with my adhd it gets so hard to do tasks and keep up in classes. My mind always wonders and I have to work twice as hard TO EVEN CONCENTRATE on the lessons. It’s stressful ngl especially if you have black parents who put pressure on you. Maybe I did it for my mom’s approval? Definitely BUT there is power in knowledge and I genuinely enjoy learning new things :)!

I recently moved to France from living in England and adapting to the new environment has been difficult. Being a transfer student was extremely difficult because of the language of course, so I had to go all out and study like crazy to catch up to the rest of my classmates. My grades are alright but they’re not as good as they were in England, I won’t give up though lol

Listen, The more you push yourself, the more worse you will become. You can study, but it needs to be well structured that absolutely fits your health. Plus get a lot of sleep. Your body needs it.

I lost my motivation to live in 2021 and throughout 2022,I couldn't visualise my future So I started criticising myself and giving myself examples of overachievers and discouraging myself. It really made me strong and made me want to be someone; myself would be proud of and now instead of sticking with 2 pages daily, I'm able to do 100 pages daily and I've a future vision

“Life’s a waste if you don’t become the person you could’ve become” - why that “could’ve” person supposed to be over-exhausted overachiever? Why can’t that person be happy & balanced?

Nothing EVER good comes from solely proving someone or people. This is just a compensation mechanism for your insecurities and lack of confidence. The right mechanism is to draw healthy boundaries with people that do not value you like you really are.

I study for intellectual curiosity and it leads me to good grades and being the best of my entire school. Flexing is the fun part, but the point is curiosity: I won't ever feel my studying is pointless like many other students do

I have a extremely great learning ability - those grades sure were convincing when getting my first job. But once there's nothing to learn, I'm a useless piece of s... Might be the wrong job for me, so I'd suggest anyone with a great learning ability (be it an effect of ADHD or just natural excitement for new knowledge) a job where that can be used. In my current job I can't use my drive to binge learn new things and it's dragging me down, as that was basically my only measurable quality back as a student and doing monotone work isn't making use of my skills at all. :(

At this point of life I literally think everyone is laughing at me, laughing at me falling down getting failed on exams But now that's it. I'll show them. I will not give up this time ever 🙏. Amen

Been saying all these bullshit to myself. Well if your goal is not your dream, it's not something that makes you smile when you think about it. Then your efforts are going to pointless direction. You have to love the process otherwise burning out and depression is going to eat you up and whatever goal you have in mind. Put effort for something that makes you want to put effort. That would be a romantic relationship with study. But if you are pushing hard only for the sake of survival then it's equal to a freaking situationship. :) Hope these metaphors are easy to understand, if not I'm not explaining. 😅

The merely that you have to show others how hard you are trying, just tells how little confidence you have in yourself at whatever you trying to achieve. There is nothing wrong in working hard, long hours... but for god sake, work for a reason, not just to fit in society standards.

In Poland we have the rule "zakuć-zdać-zapomnieć", I'd translate it as "cramm-pass-forget". Putting big effort into learning this way just to get a good grade doesn't make sense to me. Like it won't give you anything. You don't develop. Prussian education system wants to raise obedient citizens who will always listen to goverment, don't think by themselves and it's easy to force them to something. In the past they had to become perfect soliders. I know it isn't much possible to not learn too much if your parents expect it from you or you just have to pass a year/get to good school but in my opinion it's important to be aware that it isn't normal what school does to students. Please remember: 1. GRADES DON'T SAY WHAT PERSON YOU ARE OR HOW SMART YOU ARE. They show you only how correctly you answered the questions after crammling informations. 2. YOUR HEALTH (MENTAL AND PHYSICAL) IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. If you will be totally burn-out and miserable, the best grades won't make you happy. Also sleep is very important, same as health in general. 3. IF YOU HAVE HOBBY, IT'S AMAZING AND KEEP DOING IT.

In the end your grades won't matter. Most people deep inside would like to see you fall from the top and all the hard work and effort you invested doesn't even matter to them. Unless your motivation comes from within the inside (intrinsic motivation), it will just backfire on you in the end.

Hater gonna hate. No effort is fruitless as long as you have the right goal. If your goal is to also develop lifelong virtues than this is exactly what you want to do. But you should also always try to make learning more effient. So you have time for other things. The problem of our society is that we live in a hypercompetive society but at the same time worship lazyness. In the end, the goal is living a life with intention.

Work hard to come out of university with a piece of paper ( work permit ) and 50k debt and waste the best years of your life. To then get a job stuck at a desk with fluorescent lighting, to make people way up in the chain alot of money whilst you come home with £25k a year, hoping one day in your 30s you may make 40/50k a year. You will also forget 95% of the stuff you ‘ studied and crammed into your head to pass an exam ‘

The amount of useless data I consumed to get my diploma is egregious.
