This is exactly why regulations protecting the environment are so important. If it is convenient and profitable to pollute, then people will pollute. Not even a religious and cultural icon like the Ganges River is safe.

People it's important that both people and govt are aware of consequences of polluting Ganga... Pollution at all levels must be stopped and especially those factories releasing harmful chemicals straight into the water... This is not justified as this is a serious threat to people lives and Ganga who we worship itself

Indian media is far from independent. All governments like BJP control the media and only show the "good stuff" they're doing like Ram Mandir and ignoring this matter so people will think the government is doing great and this will result in tonnes of votes. BJP only gains votes by either religious matter or India vs Pakistan matter. Congress is no better as well, the truth is that we don't have any good politician to govern us.

Its a 2014 production being published in April 2019. Major sewage lines have already been stopped from entering in Ganga. It's an on-going project. A lot of cleaning has already happened since 2014. BBC is a propagadist media. They always try their best to defame India.

Fresh water dolphins thrive in the Ganges and many kinds of fish. earlier the situation of Ganges was different. It was filthy and wasn’t properly maintained. But the things have changed now. The quality of Ganges has been improving for the past 5 years because of the government’s initiatives.

You can afford "to take care of the Earth" because you live in a relatively wealthy country, as do I. If we lived in a poor part of India neither of us would give shit about the environment, because we would do WHATEVER IT TAKES to put a decent meal on our table. The city of Kanpur is near to my place and yes it is horrifying to watch all this. But unfortunately, the same is the situation for a number of cities in my country. General public is naive, the industrialists are cunning and government keeps pulling the wool over the eyes by the pretending to clean the water bodies. As an Indian who is a first hand witness to all the crime against nature, I’d genuinely ask y’all to suggest how can we make it work instead of pouring down meaning and abusive comments down here.

Your not getting it right Krystal!! Before British era it was real clean and it was used as drinking extensively. But during British era they didn't respected our culture and change everything thing. Later on after industrial revolution in India no regulations were imposed on industry and environment protection. You know that once people are used to something it's quite difficult to bring a change in a huge population of 1.3 billion. So just go through the stats research and comment. We are a developing country with 1/6 of global population, It will definitely take time but we will change.

This is one example, all rivers in India are being polluted like this. Ganga is getting extra attention because it brings in easy votes. You visit any city and ask about sewerage treatment methods and facilities, there is only one answer- The nearest river. Contractors building up BHK area everywhere without taking up the work of waste management into account. And Industries......? Well, forget it. You can get away with anything if you know how to use that extra cash effectively in Govt offices.

Asia's biggest sewage drain "Sisamau" in Kanpur is tapped and go to Sewage Treatment Plant . Quality of Water in Ganges is improving due to implementation of various CETP and STP .

The river is holy and has the special power of recycling. Hence people dump garbage, sewage and corpses into the river in order to recycle these. Now they're exploring for water in Mars. If they ever get to Mars they will do the same things there.

I'm sorry.. I'm form India... Ganga is holiest river for us.... Though I'm far form our capital.. But still wanna spread some awareness to clean this river.... The kumb mela has already finished now a days. .. So we will try to clean as soon as possible. ....

The thing is there are already soo many diseases spread around in that area because of the chemical contamination. The people around the river use that same water for drinking as well. But because they're poor, the government simply doesn't care compared to the big industries which pay it to let the chemical wastes go to Ganga directly
