Billy shows true class in this set. He knows this is a powerhouse he is playing with. There is nothing quite like the magic that these ladies exhibit when they play together. After watching Billy and his band in concert and seeing the powerhouse that he brings to the stage I am so glad he knew when to step back.
I growd up (yes that's an actual term) in a hillbilly family, and family reunions made HeeHaw look like ameteur day. Not a single person could interpret a single note of sheet music, but just like this video would bring a sincere tear to your eye.
Saw this live on the first night of their current tour in Ridgefield Ct. Left me awestruck at the end of a show that already had me in awe. Chris Thile said it at the end of the Live From Here show last month, "the best band in the world" no argument from me.
Was so glad when Thile made the comment about, “...not a better band in the world....” Feels so true to me, they don’t get nearly enough credit for just how GOOD they are. They’re in a whole different league.
why does the blonde woman on far right look like she's mad, or irritated all the time ? she cold water on a warm shower of beautiful harmony...pray she get happy.
Aoife O'donovan is one of the best performers I've had the pleasure of hearing and seeing multiple times. From watching her over the last 20 years or so, I think she's a bit of a perfectionist and this set was happening under unexpected circumstances, there had just been a strong thunderstorm roll through the farm where this festival takes place, the single microphone was an adjustment at the last minute due to said rain. Billy was a guest on this one medley adding to the complexity of navigating the single mic this night. I agree at times Aoife looks concerned but there are several moments that she's smiling and knows how good this configuration is sounding during the medley. She's immensely talented and if she looks serious while she's up there it's because she is. Thanks for watching!!
@@marlasmusicclips Some of their videos and live performances if you watch Aoife, especially her eyes, you can tell how deep she listens to the other instruments around her, she is a true pro and a crazy crazy talented musician.
It seemed to me that they were doing their best to keep him away from the microphone. I think they were afraid that he steal the show away from them!!!
Nah. That's not it. They're such a complete musical package that it's hard for any fourth musician to find a place in this. Molly Tuttle played live on this same medley with them and the result was the same. All one can do, if you're a sensitive musician, is wait for a chorus to solo on. You can't bully your way into the rest of it. As it is, they all had to do a lot of choreography to make even this work.
It's tough enough to have 3 musicians & their instruments crowd around a single microphone, let alone 4. I was at Grey fox that day - Billy Strings was the guest musician with just about every act on stage, and he knows it's not his place to muscle his way to the lead. He's just jamming with them for fun cuz he was invited.
