Omg I just looked this up this was one of the weirdest commercials from my childhood. And the Rat actually came to visit us at school when I was in the 2nd grade and I was determined I was never gonna smoke, until I turned 19 then I said wth i probably be dead before 50 anyway from somethin else
But smoking also reduces quality of life in the medium term, so what's the point? Needing a hit every few hours or less doesn't feel particularly good, even if it didn't have any health effects. I feel like that part is usually understated by everyone involved, they just tell you "Hey, rebellious teens who like danger: This is dangerous! And like taboo!"
Soldiers actually used to smoke tobacco back in WWII and the Korean War, Though the effects weren't known at the time it was common practice for troops to smoke cigarettes like chesterfields and lucky strike hence the motto lucky green has gone to war
What the fu- This is actually kinda sad. No really, I genuinely feel bad now, both for Smoking A Cigarette Man and for the survivors. They lost a great man that day, and an even greater friend.
ok but um... what did "smoking a cigarette guy do for the team other then give away their location with the smoke?....I feel like not being in that army might be for the best
@@extraonionsyou didn't know him brother, he was always there for us. the first to pick up arms and just go out into no man's land with us. he was a true soldier. it didn't matter if he smoked or not. he was a good man, and a damn good infantryman.
@@extraonionsthat’s how all soldiers do they take cigarette breaks after combat as a Victory and sometimes smoke while Shooting so basically they called him cigarette man because he shoots while he smokes
I think I saw a bit of this PSA on a "JonTron" video. Dang this commercial pulled a 180. It started off so light with the Sarge introducing his troops, but when "Smoking a Cigarette Man" came up, it got dark fast. Now that's a PSA.
The Rat at the end convinced me, I threw away all my drugs and admitted my smoking problem. I as talking with my mom and shouted "HEY MOM!!! I SMOKE WINSTONS TOO MUCH, AND TERRANCE THE RAT SAID STOP" She was a little upset a fucking cartoon rat made me come clean more then her so she admitted to into a mental asylum. Good times, that story happened in the 90s or smth. Now all I have is a weed problem... Terrance... help me.
They must have been on LSD when they thought of the idea of "Toy Soldiers" mourning the death of a comrade who died from cigarettes. For a war on drugs commercial - they *****MUST***** have been on drugs to come up with this idea.
0:15 last night... b-Billy burned him with a match- *cries* [we need to find Billy and make him pay for his sins please support this by donating to my bank account]
I feel kind a bad for these soldiers how it’s so sad but every year tobacco kills four million people were wide a message from rat 🐀 reject all tobacco take from territory you better tell somebody.
