Such a heartwarming and meaningful song, sung in this way, and played right at the perfect moment “Nah, it’ll be fun while it lasts, besides, when it all ends, i’ll have Buzz Lightyear to keep me company......To Infinity....And Beyond” Great thing he didn’t abandon all his friends decades later right? Right?
That wasn’t his choice. He was going to go back with the other toys until Buzz told him it was okay for him to stay with Bo Peep. Woody even asked Buzz if he was sure the others would be okay.
This is the best movie in the whole franchise. This version was the perfect way to end the movie. RIP Joe Ranft (voice of Wheezy) and Robert Doulet who sang this version. You both made our childhoods so much better and you’ll never be forgotten!
Rip joe Ranft 1960-2005 He was a good man and a legend to Pixar. Goodbye forever joe your with Glenn, rob, and others you’ll always be number 1 in Pixar to infinity and beyond.
@eyealex491 well that could have been the case or they could get Joe's Brother to do the voice for Wheezy and the other Pixar Characters he did. Rumor has it that Wheezy will return in Toy story 5 with Joe Ranft's brother taking over as his voice
This is the best version of this song, it was such a great way to close the movie. A brand new version of the original Toy Story theme. It's a shame the singer passed away. RIP Robert Goulet.
2:03-2:28 Buzz: You still worried? Woody: About Andy? Nah. It'll be fun while it lasts. Buzz: I'm proud of you cowboy. Woody: Besides, when it all ends, I'll have old Buzz Lightyear to keep me company. For infinity and beyond.
This is the only one in the series that won the Golden Globes for Best Picture. 🏆 And I agree with that one critic -- this is the rare sequel that lives up to it's predecessor.
You know, after rewatching the first Toy Story for the first time in decades day of this writing, I realise that this song, no matter the version, is the perfect embodiment of the Toy Story trilogy. The original film at its core is about two characters who end up meeting eachother, one of whom begins the story suffering from jealousy, the other delusion, and both end up going through a journey that puts them on the path to becoming better people. Buzz realises he's a toy, Woody overcomes his jealousy and accepts Buzz's presence, and both realise that yes, they each have a friend in eachother. "You've Got a Friend in Me" is the perfect re-iterance of everything the entire trilogy stands for; no matter what happens, our friends, our loved ones, they'll always be there for us. No matter what. And then Josh Cooney came along, made a fourth Toy Story film anyway and proceeded to have Woody abandon his fellow toys to stay with a derailed Bo Beep. *lol Toy Story 4 killed Pixar lol*
2:30 You’re gonna see it’s our destiny. You’ve got a friend in me. (Yes you do.) You’ve got a friend in me. (That’s the truth) You’ve got a friend in me-eeee! Yeah!
I remember saying "Go Wheezy!" when he started singing.

You've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me When the road looks rough ahead And you're miles and miles From your nice warm bed You just remember what your old pal said Son, you've got a friend in me Yeah, you've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me If you've got troubles And I've got 'em too There isn't anything, I wouldn't do for you We stick together, we can see it through 'Cause you've got a friend in me (Yes you do) Yeah, you've got a friend in me Some other folks might be A little bit smarter than I am Bigger and stronger too Maybe But none of them will ever love you The way I do, just me and you, babe And as the years go by Our friendship will never die You're gonna see it's our destiny You've got a friend in me You just remember what your old pal said Son, you've got a friend in me We stick together, we can see it through 'Cause you've got a friend in me Some other folks might be A little bit smarter than I am Bigger and stronger too Maybe But none of them will ever love you The way I do, just me and you, babe And as the years go by Our friendship will never die You gotta see it's our destiny You've got a friend in me (Yes you do) You've got a friend in me (Yes you do) You've got a friend in me Yeah!
I keep coming back here to smile. Not just the nostalgia but this legitimately is an awesome remix. The Toy Story films will forever be my favorite animated movies of all time!!! :)
I like this version, though not as much as Woody's version or Randy's version, because there's not as much emotion here, it's more about just being a good song- also, it's changed from being a buddy song to being a romance song
My grandmother actually met Robert Goulet at her confirmation in the 60s, and even took a picture with him. She told me this when we got to this part of the movie on Disney+, right after I pointed out to her that Robert sang this version.
Once all the franchises are incorporated on one disc for each type, a catchy song and catchy music can be suited for the menus of it. This song: You've Got A Friend in Me (Wheezy's Version) is perfect for the main menu of the Toy Story franchise. If I Didn't Have You is perfect for the main menu of both Monsters University and Monsters, Inc. (I'll show Pixar the idea of another prequel to them both, Monsters: Birthright). Beyond the Sea and Unforgettable are perfect for the main menu of both Finding Nemo and Finding Dory (there's the possibility of Finding Marlin in development). The theme songs for Elastigirl, Frozone and Mr. Incredible are perfect for the main menu of the first two Incredibles movies (can't wait for the possible third one). Real Gone, Find Yourself, You Might Think (Weezer Version) and Run That Race are perfect for the main menu of the Cars franchise (there could be a possible fourth Cars movie).
If they make a new Toy Story Toons I would like to see the Toys (especially Woody) reunit with some of the Toys from the first and second movie like Bo Peep, Wheezy, RC, and probably others more
Wheezys voice actor unfortunately died so him coming back isn't certain and bo Beep is supposed to return in the 4th movie since the plots based on finding her.
Toy Story 2 is the only Toy Story that doesn’t have the original rendition of “You’ve got a friend in me” sang by Randy newman CAUSE IT WAS REPLACED WITH THIS MASTERPIECE
Such a happy ending, wish the 4ths was this upbeat. It was touching, but a little bittersweet, especially when you see this scene and think of all the toys that got sold off and given away. I'm sure they'll do a 5th one and if they do I'd buy the dvd if it ended with Andy finding and buying back all his old toys for his son and wheezy singing this song again.
Wheezy the penguin was voiced by the same person who voiced Lenny the binoculars and also Heinlich the caterpillar from “A Bug’s Life” as well. He died 18 years ago at the age of 45 and if he was still living, he would’ve turned 63 this March.
