Toy Story 4 Movie Reaction and Commentary
wrapping up our lil Toy Story series! honestly, I really enjoyed watching these movies for the first time with you guys. Toy Story 4 wasn't as strong as the other 3 but it was entertaining nonetheless, and I hope you enjoy my reaction to it!

One of the best things about this movie is even after Don Rickles died they had enough unused lines from previous movies to have him in this movie too. It wouldn't have been the same without Mr. Potato Head.

People say it was out of character for Woody to stay behind with Bo. I feel like it isnt though. He spent 3 MOVIES preaching the fact that toys should be there for their kids, and being the glue that holds everyone together, at least until Bonnie. He is finally considering himself and that's good. If he stayed with Bonnie he would have just been unhappy, trying to convince himself that he is happy with barely being played with. As the situation was, I salute Woody for finally doing something for himself since Andy left. Something that can leave him truly happy

If anything it’s brings his character full circle has in comparison to what he is now to what he was before he has grown out of his pride to be the number one toy and has now inherited the responsibility for children’s happiness. And he did everything in his power to make Bonnie happy from helping her create forky to keeping forky safe and able to help her before he thought he was able to move on with his life. If the first movie represented childhood immaturity and compromise, the second movie represented teenage insecurity and understanding, and the third movie represented adult acceptance and responsibility, then the fourth movie represents the phase after adulthood when ones purpose is fulfilled and where you either remain stagnant in retirement or move on toward another passion.

@@Arthur_Rodri You'd think people would've heard of a dynamic character. He lost his purpose in this movie and he grew and moved on. There's no point in staying in one place where you won't be happy. Even if he leaves he could still probably go and visit his friends at Bonnie's house if he really wanted to.

Woody deserves much more for everything he puts himself through for everyone, only real mistake he made was using rc to hit buzz but it lead to a accident knocking buzz out the window. Woody has tried to be there and do what's right for everyone else and those around him either don't believe him or give him a hard time even tho he's proved himself time and time again, I always felt that way with these movies that he gets no love or respect from those around him who should see that he is selfless and is a leader type.

The toys almost lost their lives escaping the antique shop, Woody was asking them to risk their lives again. It was reasonable for them to not go with him considering helping Woody even though Bo has no reason to is kind enough already. Giggle was eaten by a cat, Duck and Bunny almost got torn apart, The sheep were almost lost, and Caboom almost got bitten. I don't blame them for not wanting to go back in.

I think the 3 was about the graduation of Andy, and the 4 was about the retirement of woody. He did enough for Andy and Bonnie. It's sad, but it's true he had no role for Bonnie's play anymore. also he has his succesor(Jessie), A good succesor. now he is between the woman he love and the great Team he made complete. I think it's good for him and he deserve good farewell like this. He retired from a life loyalty for someone, move to a life just for him. and it was with celebrations from people who he really cares. so i think this is good ending.

I agree. If the first movie was about childhood immaturity and compromise, the second movie was about teenage insecurity and understanding, and the third movie was about adulthood acceptance and responsibility, then the fourth movie is the stage beyond that where ones purpose is fulfill and you have the choice to staying in place content with your life or moving on restarting the cycle with a new purpose. For the longest time woody thought he had to be in the former unable to learn new tricks and had to retain his roll of watching over his kid be it Andy or Bonnie. But by the end of this movie he is told that after everything he has done and gave up for his purpose he is allowed to walk a path of his choosing with the reassurance that everyone else will be fine.
@gianna526
@gianna526 2 года назад
But Bonnie still was playing with him, and the entire purpose of a toy is to love a kid, and to make a child happy. That's everything that was in the other movies, the completely removed those messages. Also Woody is supposed to stick with his friends, for infinity and beyond. Bo had moved on and was doing her own thing, (which still doesn't make sense as somehow her personality made complete change but whatever) and Woody should have been able to give her up, the person who he did not save multiple times from death, or was saved by multiple times from death, and the toy he hadn't seen for over a decade. He'd been with Buzz and the rest of the gang through thick and thin, Bo was always just a background character.

@@gianna526 That’s the part everyone either doesn’t notice or they ignore, the movie keeps acting like Bonnie doesn’t play with Woody anymore but it shows she plays with him during the montage in the RV. @michaelvigil3436

I think that’s what divides the people who like this movie and those who hate it, you seem to think of being a toy as a job or career that can be retired from where as I always got the impression that the toys are sort of metaphorically/symbolically parents to the kids. I think the goal of the movies was to show little kids the type of love their parents have for them throughout the stages in their life which is why Woody would have happily stayed in the attic until Andy needed him again. Anyone who had this interpretation doesn’t like the fourth movie because it sort of implies that parents should abandon their children if they don’t feel loved or needed anymore.

People out here saying the ending makes sense because "life isn't a happy ending", smh. The concern over the ending is that it's out of character and doesn't make sense thematically, not that it was upsetting. The whole series has this idea of friendship and sticking by the people you care about. And I'm shocked that people forget that the Toys are an allegory for parenthood. It's not a perfect one to one but that's clearly the intent. I get the angle of "Woody doing something for him rather than for his kid" and I think that's interesting, but the problem is he's not doing anything for him. He left because Bo Peep manipulated and bullied him into following her life style. Constantly micking him and making him feel stupid. Bonnie played with Woody all the time, save for 3 days out of a week. Even on the trip, she was playing with Woody and Forky over all the other toys. Woody was getting play time, Bonnie was just a little kid with a wavering attention span. She doesn't deserve to have her toy, one that Andy gave her in earnest, abandon her like that because he wasn't "the favorite" anymore. We already handled that plot in the first movie. The story constantly bends over backwards trying to convince you that the 3 previous movies somehow carried this underlying theme of Woody wanting to do his own thing but ultimately picking the kid, but that was never the case. They changed Bo's and Woody's relationship to make it more understandable that he'd abandon his kid, and altered Bo's whole personality (in the flashback, not lost toy Bo) in order to pat you on the back and be like "this is Bo, remember? She was like this the whole time, remember? That's why Woody and her had such a tight bond. Shes the one who got away." When in reality she was just kinda flirty and took charge like twice? And that's the person Woody abandons Jessie and Buzz for? An abusive jerk that he hasn't seen in almost a decade over his friends that consistently saved his life and almost died together with? Idk, I'm reading all defenses and I'm just sad to see people putting down people that were upset with Toy Story 4. Even the director doesn't like TS4 and shits on it all the time saying it makes no sense and shit like that. It's not a bunch of babies that are mad that their favorite toy family had to split, it legitimately rubbed people the wrong way because it doesn't make a lot of sense and honestly promoted a pretty harmful relationship dynamic to kids with Bo and Woody. Also, side note, it's just a poorly made film in general. Scenes didn't flow, there were so many things that were just convenience for the sake of it, characters were inconsistent and dumbed down (Buzz especially, Jesus Christ), it's one of Pixar's worst in my opinion. Still solid on visuals and sound for the most part but the writing and plotting was just bad lol.

One of the biggest red flags we all should have been worried about was the eight writers…. EIGHT! The other 3 movies had 3, maybe 4, it’s never a good sign when you’ve got that many people working on the same script cause what ends up happening is no one goes back to make sure it all tracks.

I was skeptical about the film going in when I first read the book, and I didn’t understand why Woody would devote his time to having no owner when I read it. But the film presented a reason, that reason being that he was always determining his own existence on just being a toy and not himself or his mental health. The first three films were not centrally about that reason, but they were first steps to improving Woody’s life as a person, with the third film showing him the ugly truth about toys and how they’re disposable. For that alone, I was very happy that it ended the way it did.

I mean, I have to disagree about having to stay with your family. Yes, you shouldn't fell out of touch with your family, but that's a natural part of growing up, learning to say goodbye to your birth family, to step out into the world and grow closer to the one you've chosen to spend your life with, start a family of your own. Perhaps Woody doesn't entirely parallel growing up and moving into the real world, but sometimes to be with the one you love means saying goodbye to the family you grew up with. You just have to try to do it in the most honorable way possible. I think I probably relate more to Woody's decision than some because I've consistently had to say goodbye to everyone I knew in order to return to school and another state far from home, and unlike Woody, I have no one to leave for, so I feel like I'm leaving for nothing, so I'd give almost anything for me to find my Soul Mate where I'm going.

And how Andy's dad got woody is there was a promotion in the 50s or 60s that if you collect 31 cereal boxes you will get a woody doll but Andy's dad only collected 7 boxes but he sent them anyway and made a letter explaining that he doesn't know if his gonna get the woody doll because he only has 7 boxes but after he sent the letter the assistant notices Andy's dad's letter and thought that he is gonna get woody so she packed woody up in a box and sent it to Andy's dad and after he got woody he polio this means everything he owns needs to be burned everything of his stuff was thrown outside but in the night he crawled out to get three toys Woody,Slinky Dog and Mr Potato head he locked them up in a box and closed it. After that a few years later he met Andy's mom and a couple of years later the two were married and they had andy and molly after having molly Andy Sr got Post Polio this means even if you recover from polio you would still get it so before his death Andy's dad gave andy a key to the box and told him to gu upstairs and get this box and open it when andy went upstairs he came back down with the box but unfortunately Andy's dad died So a few days after his dad's death andy completely forgot about the until after the funeral andy remembered the box and opend to find woody Slinky and mr potato head and woody and Slinky and potato head doesn't realize that this is a different andy because andy and his dad looks exactly the same and they did not know how many years have passed because they were all asleep during that time so woody and Slinky and potato head believed that this is the same andy.

Toy Story 3 is great too, but I honestly felt like the film was a little too dark at times, it wasn't as funny as the other three, the toys being jerks to Woody in the beginning felt forced, and I honestly felt like the toys themselves spent way too much time in the daycare center instead with Andy who was the biggest focus of that film. Toy Story 4 on the other hand I think is a near perfect film and felt like such a fulfilling chapter in Woody's life. The story is beautifully executed (it most certainly wasn’t messy and didn’t feel like a bunch of little scenes put together as each scene added something to the story, characters, and underlying themes of the film), the characters are all so amazingly well-realized (Woody and Bo are the best they've ever been, and Gabby Gabby is my favorite of the newcomers), the animation is absolutely breathtaking, and it executes its themes of feeling like you've fulfilled your purpose and want to move on to better things in such a beautiful way. I also haven't cried this hard watching a film in awhile. That ending completely destroyed me and is one of the most beautiful endings I've seen in a film. It felt completely earned to me because I honestly felt like Woody was building up to this ending ever since the second film and I loved how fully it displayed that part of his life. Just for the record though, Buzz convinced Woody to stay with Bo, be happy, and help other toys along the way. Which I thought worked on every level and really showed how far both Woody and Buzz have come in their friendship knowing what is best for them. I can understand how the ending might be hard to accept, but it was the honestly most realistic and fitting way to end the series. Dolly pretty much hit the nail on the head when she said “Bonnie isn’t Andy” and she’s sadly right. Not every kid is going to love you the same as the last one, and that’s ok. There are better things in life out there. Even if it means having to cut your time with the gang short, it was better for him to leave them happy with Bo rather than delaying the inevitable and leave them sad and alone while being sold. Also, I thought this film utilized the older characters very well. Yes, they aren’t the focus of the film, but that never really bothered me because of how amazing the newer characters were and how beautifully it executes Woody along with Bo, Forky, Buzz, Gabby Gabby (it was so refreshing of her to not end up being a villain), and everyone else. They pretty much gave us as much time as we possibly could with them, and still had some great standout moments. Toy Story 4 is by far the most surprising Pixar film that I’ve ever seen. What originally I thought was going to be a cash-grab, ended up doing the unthinkable and pushed the boundaries of the series, taking such bold risks and answering huge questions that all ultimately paid off. I know it might be hard to see this now, but I honestly think Toy Story 4 will be looked upon as much fondly as Toy Story 1 and 2 within the next few years (and a lot of people, myself included, already feel that way).

Listen, no matter what people think about this movie, you can't deny that this is possibly Pixar's most beautiful looking movie, in terms of animation. Like, I actually can't get over how good this movie looks. Many Pixar's movies look great, but I've never seen animation as good as this movie yet. That's why I'm interested to see soul, cause, at least in the human parts, it really looks just as good as this movie. The reason I'm saying this is because when I saw onward, the animation didn't look as great as this movie. It still looked great, but like I said, not as great as this movie's animation. In conclusion, many pixar movies look amazing, but l, in my opinion, this has to be one of the best looking Pixar movies I've ever seen.

This is the ending to the franchise. While yes Toy Story 3 was honestly the best one, that movie is the end of Andy. While Toy Story 4 goes on about to centralize itself around Woody. Woody was always the main character of the franchise always being there for his kid and his friends. Why did Woody not go with Bonnie then? Well because he had one of the greatest arcs, he went from being jealous and angry for Buzz in the first movie but clearly here it shows how much he has grown and also his dedication to others. He accepted that Bonnie would go and move on, where at the beginning he couldn't do it with Andy. Therefore he passed on his torch to Forky and showed him what being a Toy was, he didn't center himself, he was always thinking of others. And through the doll he gave his voice box and Forky he learned that he wanted to give toys that chance to experience what he felt with Andy, and that is what he dedicated his life too, when he chose to stay with Bo, he chose to help other toys and bring joy to kids. Give kids the courage like the doll gave to the lost child, and give the toys a chance to feel the love that Andy had given him all those years ago. Truly Toy Story 4 is a remarkable ending, very powerful in meaning.
@TheToystoryChannel
@TheToystoryChannel 2 года назад
Toy Story 4 was unnecessary for the general public, but not for Toy Story fans, due to the character of Bo Peep. This fourth movie existed for her. Now, the argument from Woody's crisis is unnecessary for everyone, because Nobody imagined what would happen if Woody experiences an age crisis? or How about a more adult discussion about the sheriff feeling that his life is over? In reality, no one, including me, expected it; however with that the law of "There was no need but how great that it existed" is applied because that developed the character incredible. The essence of the film is totally focused on Woody, Bo Peep, Gabby Gabby and Forky. Forky isn't my favorite character, but I don't hate him either; he only serves as a tool in the film to expose in the plot the best that the film had: Woody's deep dialogue, practically all the presentation and development of the character Gabby Gabby; who I consider is the best villain in the saga. And also that Woody was reunited with Bo Peep. As for Bo Peep, the movie exists because of her! a story about her and Woody was the reason for Toy Story 4 that Toy Story fans craved. His change in both wardrobe and personality that remained in the final version of this film, is totally understandable, valued and justified; the way they transcended the character in this movie was phenomenal; And I do not mean the accusations of feminist propaganda, but it became the metaphor of life finished and then reborn, that Woody contemplated in the little shepherd, Bo peep had gone through the same as Woody, that's why there is a bond of union very strong between both. She is not a completely different character as they complain, she is still the same flirtatious and interested shepherdess of Woody; only that her own reality forced her to move forward. The argument that both handle is about: she Values the past but she lives today; something stupid for some because Woody "did not need that story" "Everything was fine in Toy Story 3" however I can not be more grateful that they have built such a realistic and mature plot for both characters. They made them transcend like never before, giving an even deeper and more plurilateral argument than in Toy Story 3. Life changes, we believe that things will be the same throughout our lives when reality itself shows us that it is not like that, when we have been here for years.

I liked that Woody finally chose himself for once. All three of the other movies it was always "whats best for Andy" and the beginning of this movie it was "whats best for Bonnie" to the point he literally gave pieces of himself away for her. It didn't matter if they broke or neglected him or if the other toys treated him poorly. He only put value in what he could do for his kid, and nothing else mattered. In the end, he realized that kids come and go, and she didn’t need him like he thought she did, and that it was okay. He chose to live for himself and do what he wanted and be with who he wanted. I like that ending. At the end of the second movie, part of him wanted to go on the display in the museum until his friends showed up. At the end of the third movie, he wanted to stay with Andy at first, but last minute stayed with Bonnie and his friends. This time, he actually followed through with doing what he wanted, even if leaving his friends and the sense of purpose he had latched onto for so long is sad and a bit scary.

I won't argue their opinions or anything, anyone is allowed to like anything, but this really is just a '100% character change' for not only Woody, but Buzz and Bo Peep. I just don't understand why they had to tare the characters down and rebuild them just to have another arch when they could have just made the movie about new characters or include new ones and make Woody and the others background characters. (but still more important than they were in this movie, as background characters were literally just there for visual enjoyment, lol.)

I believe the toys are an allegory or metaphor or something for parenthood, the first three movies are showing children the type of love that parents have for their children as they grow and change. That’s a big reason why this movie has mixed reviews, it is ignoring the core messages of the first three and is sort of implying that it’s better to abandon your children to pursue your own happiness. It also invalidates the messages in the first three movies, the prospector was correct and they would be better off in a museum instead of a family and Lotso was completely correct about toys being trash waiting to be thrown away.

This was a great film, & the ending was good, but in a sad way. As much as I loved the idea of the lost toys living on they're own, it was sad to see Woody say goodbye to all his friends. I'm disappointed they broke up the family like that.

This movie truly looks amazing, such a shame it contradicts the first 3 movies and focuses on these new characters when the old character get 5 minutes screen time maximum , movie could of been so much better. Anyway great commentary on the whole franchise

Nothing about Toy Story 4 contradicts the first three films because they have honestly been building up to the inevitability of parting ways since Toy Story 2. Dolly pretty much hit the nail on the head when she said, “Bonnie isn’t Andy”. And that might be hard to accept, but it’s unfortunately super accurate that not every kid will love a toy as much as the last.

@@RyansChannel0203 well that’s wrong because woody ultimately decided he wanted to stay loyal to his kid in the 2nd movie and was encouraging the rest of the characters to do the same throughout Toy story 3

Would you have preferred he stayed with the game and delay the inevitable of being abandoned and alone, rather than choosing to be happy with the one that he loved? Because the film was going to end either way given what Dolly said.

While I do like this movie and it's my second favorite out of the 4 I do kinda wish we had gotten more with the other characters especially Jessie( my fave character) I also fell like the ending makes woody a traitor in a way for leaving because in the other movies he always wants the toys to stay together but in the end woody leaves to stay with bo ugh other then that is a wonderful and fantastic movie another thing I will say is that buzz should have been treated better in the movie to
