Join us here as we do a long term review of the Toyo Open Country A/T III
The A/T III according to Toyo is that the new tread pattern “delivers gripping off-road traction with responsive and predictable on-road handling,” and features include a new tread compound and design for enhanced grip, increased cut and chip resistance and a quiet, comfortable ride; a more evenly distributed void area for extra traction, increase tread block rigidity and an enhanced worn appearance; staggered shoulder lugs for increased off-road performance; 3D multi-wave sipes for enhanced wet and snow traction and irregular wear minimisation; stone ejecting blocks, and more.
We actually got a glimpse of the AT3 back in 2019 at the SEMA show in the U.S. With over 13 sizes for the Australian market, there will be a size for most of your on/off road needs. It really is a great upgrade from the AT2.

The AT2's were horrible in the snow in the Rocky Mountains. Didn't matter what vehicle, they sucked. The 3's are night and day better!

Had a set on my Ranger for nearly 30k now. Wet performance is definitely falling away. Happy with the noise levels and performance around town highway etc. I've done around 10k in gravel/sand and they have been excellent. Wear level is excellent too.

I have these on my 21 Luxy SR5. Highly rate them both on road and off road. Done 20+k on them. The Luxy is taily in the wet at the best of the times so it's always advisable to take it easy on roundabouts and similar but I have no complaints with these. 100% will replace with the same when my existing ones wear out.

Yeah, the mic went a bit funny, had to try create the in camera audio, its a little robotic, our next videos should be much better, we fixed it now!

Have a set of these in 37’s on my gladiator. Glad to hear I’m not the only one with underwhelming wet weather experience. In addition to that, the hydroplaning is some of the worst I’ve ever dealt with.

You didn't say how wide they are ,wide tires will hydroplane so easy, no matter what brand or Style

275/65R17 … Toyo supplies this size in Australia too! Great alternative for Toyota owners that want a little more sidewall and staying legal and no scrubbing … you get a minimum 31 inch total diameter with a minimum 6.5mm more sidewall which equates to a minimum lift of 6.5mm underbody clearance. The additional width certainly helps as well. Legal minimum wheel 17x6.5 so that covers many standard Toyota wheels including FJ cruiser standard wheel. Your speedometer will only be out by 1.6% so it’s almost unnoticeable considering most speedos will read 100 when you are really doing 95klm Hope that helps someone out there.

Man I got a question I have had the cooper at3 xlt and I have literally got 85,000 miles out of these tires . They have just been great. I’m honestly scared I’m not gonna get the same mileage out of the toyos . They seem a lot softer . And man it’s 1,500$ to 1700$ for new tires . How has the wear been on your tires ?

@@bobmths- Why would you switch to what many would consider to be an inferior tire? Stick with the Coopers or go with the Falken Wildpeaks! The Toyos display their weakness in wet weather conditions! However, Toyo treadlife seem to be exceptional (at least they were on my F150).

@@Bacnow bc my children’s mother could have gotten my the tire for about 300$ less than the coopers .i ended up going back with the coopers. Just had to pull the trigger on another set

what was the tread depth when the tire was new? TOC A/T3?

I think I know the answer but in an XL loaded rated 245/65/17, which if these three would you choose, for off road use in all types of situations, including snow, Falken WildPeak A/T3W, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T and the Toyo Open Country AT3?

I am using Falken Wildpeak AT3W same size as original. Noiser A32 but no problem for nearly 20k km so far. Just 1 hole caused by screw on the road but I could hear the air coming out the tire after reach the hotel and call the service right away. Just FYI.

When it comes to noise why don't you use a decibel reader determine exactly how much noise.. Thinking of changing the Bridgestone on my Y62 absolute useless on gravel roads they end end up having Rocks pierce your tyres. Sounds perfect for what I want My Roads are all gravel and my property is all four-wheel drive. LOL

You need to do a comparison test of the toyo AT3 vs is closest competitor...the Falken AT3W. BFG ain't even in the show unless you want to use that as a baseline. The tread pattern is almost identical, both 3PMSF rated, both 2 ply sides.

@@tacticalant3841 K02 are crap in the wet and 3 ply sidewall. Be nice to see two almost identical tyres go head to head. K02 as baseline as per my original post if you need it in there. Did you not read that far? Shit..K02 may be better!

I've run several different AT's here in the Rocky Mountain west, and the KO2's are the go to. Especially in the snow. Never had a flat whether on the 2500HD on down to the Jeep CJ, which was used for its intended purpose.

KO2s - Best Offroad (serious off-roading, durability) Falken Wilpeaks - Best All around AT tire (off-road, on-road, inclement weather, road noise, etc…) Toyo AT3 - average in most categories (not a bad tire but doesn’t stand out in any one category)
