My favorite thing is that this design eliminates the infotainment screen altogether, instead using a smartphone. This is a great idea as today’s cars will be outdated in no time at all due to the infotainment interface. This would be less expensive and is a more timeless design approach.
It's a cool little concept and I hope they make something similar. I can think of 9 cars that have tried to compete against the Miata over the last 30 years and they are all gone. There is a reason the MX-5 is still around.
This is genuinely exciting to me. I do have questions. For instance, possible aftermarket support for more old school physical gauges? Possible roof types? Otherwise... I'm genuinely EXCITED.
Looking for a daily driver and there just isn’t enough room inside. I have a 2014 A5 Cabriolet which is working fine for now. My dad had a Miata which was fun to drive, but it was more of a weekender type vehicle. You couldn’t comfortably take it on a road trip with two people.
A number of car companies have tried to dethrone the MX-5. I comment Toyota, but it will be a tough row to hoe. The aftermarket has tons of performance and non-performance parts for all 4 generations. Their reliability is well known and ease of maintenance can be seen in thousand of MX- 5 RU-vid videos.
The Toyota S-FR is a joke when it comes to styling. Its gaping puffer fish mouth for a grille and bug-eye headlights are ugly. So is that 'piss yellow' paint.
Hideous grill. A mid-engine MR-2 would have a sharp front end. Demographics will never go for this, look at Miata drivers. Older men and women. Gen Z etc do not have the money for a toy to sell in any numbers. Rear looks like a Ricer 4C and that was a flop.
Sorry, but gotta say... the Miata is way, way, way, way better looking. That Toyota looks like someone smashed a Mini. It just doesn't look anywhere near as sporty as the Miata.
