These cars are awesome. I worked for the dealership that owns both of the only 2 Carroll Shelby Toyota 2000GT's that were built for racing. Bob Tkacik was one of my bosses. I was able to see these cars up close and it was an experience I will never forget. They also own the only James Bond replica convertible. the license plate says "BOND007" Another cool bit of information for you, these cars all reside in the state of Maine in the USA. Not a state known for being home to a lot of expensive fancy cars.
From beginning actually shelby gives by toyota 3 cars. But using for racing just two cars and 1 for spare. So toyota taken back the spare cars and making the replica of shelby toyota 2000gt and put in toyota museum in japan.
Yeah not really... Jaguar made over 67 thousand E-types. Toyota made 337 of these lol. The Jaguar would also blow the doors off this thing. Yes like the Jag she certainly is pretty though.
You must be kidding. This car set speed records on a 72 hour test back in it's time and ran well. The only way you can damage this car is by wrecking it. Toyota knows how to build and engine and that's a fact. I do love hondas more, but toyota will always be okay because they made this car and it gradually got better as they updated the platform along with the name to "supra".
@@driffbro3380 fun fact. the engine currently in the car isn't the original. the original # matching is stored in a crate in the same building for preservation purposes. smart moves
And Shelby said in an interview that they let them get over 10,000 rpm all the time. He said the only way to get power out of em was to rev the hell out of em. I'd love to hear that.
This car and the Datsun 240Z could compete with American and European sports cars easily. I believe they were grand milestones in Japan's motorsport participation. It eventually got to the point that in the 1990s, all the American and European cars being released were being utterly embarrassed by modified Japanese imports, most notably the Supra and 300ZX- both spiritual successors to the 2000GT and 240Z respectively.
The japanese know how to make great cars at an affordable price, but above that they can’t compete with the americans and europeans, that’s why you don’t see Japanese luxury cars and super cars that often
@@Yaro2mainly because the consumer base and market they are aiming at is different. Not everyone wants to buy a luxury car because roads in Japan are narrow. Its not practical when you live in the countryside as well. Its not that Japan cannot make supercars, their cars have been competing for decades and achieved a lot. Majority of the worlds population depend on these ‘boring cars’ to keep the world moving. Cars are not meant to be racing and flashy all the time, they are meant to function, to transport you from A to B.
@@Kei.W That is true as well, however roads are also very narrow in most european cities, like you said it depends on the consumer market in those places, europe and america are much fonder to sports cars than japan is.
@@Yaro2 Well yes, thats what I meant. I think its misleading to say they cant compete with American & European cars. American cars usually fail in Japan and they are quite fond of Japanese cars/trucks. Japan itself has the best car culture in Asia, they are very fond of Italian supercars & to a lesser extent, muscle cars. Im just saying nothing is absolute, when ppl think of supercars, Lamborghini & Ferrari usually comes to mind. So I dont think that its a whole ‘Europe can make supercars, Japan cant’ when its just a few companies dedicated to racing & making supercars for the wealthy. Lastly, many of them nearly went bankrupt at certain points in history so I dont think many manufacturers wanna risk that.
If this is one of the 2 Shelby preped GT's, it has closer to 210 hp. Even more if you change out the SCCA obligatory Mikuni carbs for Weber's. But if it's just a replica, your correct. If they had another year to develop it they definitely would have given Porsche a big challenge.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU, CH and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party and Gretas FFF movement gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now these green heroes want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions- and smoke crime :-( :-(
