Thank you! I followed along with both videos to change the water pump and timing belt in my '03 Land Cruiser. It was my first time doing this in a car and it went so smoothly. A few times your head camera was angled so it was hard to see exactly what you were doing or pointing at (such as when looking at the timing belt on the crank pulley and its alignment marks). It was so nice to have all the steps explained during this process. I replace some extra pulleys as well and everything is running super smooth. I learned a lot more about engines (at least with the accessories) so that is very rewarding.

Just bought an 03 Sequoia. So glad I found your video. i know I would have been frustrated trying to do this job without your expert instruction. I'm a retired diesel mechanic, and I used the Dayco kit. It was of good quality and had the same bearing mfg as oem, but had a paper wp gasket, not the metal.I was a little confused about the belt markings at first but they lined up with the cs dot and key way. So I think I would recommend spending the extra money and ordering the Aisan kit if doing this job for the first time.

You did a great job on fixing that land cruiser, you work clean and take care of the spare parts..... I saw a mechanic doing the same as you did but they are not good as you.... and they don’t. Care about the spare parts, they just put on the ground without any flank of wood underneath in order not to damage the parts. When they fixed the wheel bearing they used the red grease instead of black one they you used.

Good job showing the timing belt alignment on top and the mention of different year model lower pulley positions. Most videos do not mention that fact. I had trouble aligning mine until I realized that the factory had installed my belt 2 notches off and the lower pulley didn't need to be at TDC. At apx 55 minutes in part 2, you call the oil cooler hoses, bypass hoses. Those hoses and metal tubing direct coolant to the oil filter housing for additional oil cooling. There is another from the filter housing to the engine block, every timing belt change is a good time to replace all of those hoses. As I watched both videos, the back of the radiator was dinged at least 2 dozen times. 4 bolts and 2 transmission cooler lines and the radiator is pulled and safe from the abuse. Plus, that is a good time to wash all of the dead bugs and debris out with a garden hose. I am jealous of your torque wrench! I need one.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 лет назад
Normally we stick some cardboard up against the radiator. This truck was getting a new one that hadn't arrived yet so we weren't too concerned. I've seen the trans line fittings get mangled when pulling the radiator so we normally leave them in, it's much more spacious with it removed though. Good catch calling them bypass instead of cooler. Not sure why that was in my head :)
@rickh590
@rickh590 5 лет назад
Hi, I am not trying to beat you up. The transmission lines are 2 rubber hoses. I plugged them with 3/8th aluminum rod that I had. There isn't any way to damage them. You had to remove them to change out the old radiator at the end of the game. I will cut you slack on the radiator change. Replacing the oil cooler hose on the back side of the filter housing was a major pain. The part # for a 2005 Tundra is 15777-50060. It runs from the oil filter housing to the engine block. The hard part was removing the clamp on the engine block. I replaced it with a worm gear clamp. On my 05 Tundra, there were 4 coolant hoses associated with the timing belt and the upper and lower radiator hoses. Replace all of them while this 90000 (103000) mile service is performed. My Auto Schooling started in 1966, don't use the battery top as a storage tray. Never, never,ever...rh @@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 лет назад
The actual aluminum cooler fitting on the radiator is what I've seen damaged. It gets twisted when the hose is removed with too much vigor and either is cracked or no longer round enough to seal. We've seen a bunch weeping there. So if I don't have to remove them I don't. And yes, setting things on the battery is a bad habit.

Hello.. thanks for this video. Especially useful on reassembly sequence and bolt torque specs. One thing.. I didn’t have a socket setup to get to that rear compressor bolt. Some of the fan brackets have locking lugs and some don't. I haven't figured out the ryhme and reason to which ones got them. If they don't have the lugs the bracket comes out with the rear bolt tight😄

Thanks for the video. I have a 2004 tundra that has 120,000 miles on it and I'm assuming it is in need of a new timing belt and water pump. This is my first Toyota and I didn't realize it even had a belt, I assumed it had a chain but my friend told me otherwise. @OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 4 года назад
You might be able to get away with just firing it up and not letting it fully cure. To me it's not worth the risk of a leak to rush it. We pressure test the cooling system before refill and if the sealer isn't cured it can blow out.

@OTRAMM

It's a huge job to reseal the oil pump. The oil pan comes off first and that requires removing or at least lifting the engine. It's the o-rings behind the pump that leak. Silicone won't fix it.

I'm doing the timing belt on my 2006 4runner 4.7L . After positioning the crank with the old belt on ATDC timing mark, I installed the new belt then marking the RH & LH Cams . then I rotate the crank several times to verify the timing is correct then I notice the timing marks on the new belt never realign themselves again no matter how many times I turn the crank. But the physical markers on the Cam is correct. Is this normal?
@kingcr3b
@kingcr3b 5 лет назад
Perfectly normal. The marks on the belt are only a guide for installation.
@OTRAMM

Like Rath said, totally normal. All the matters for checking is the the cam and crank marks line up. You'd have to spin the engine a ton to ever get the belt marks to line up again.

very appropriate question. thanks for asking it! I changed my timing belt 120k miles ago and have had no issues BUT i couldn't get the installation marks lined up again. I've been thinking what have i done since then. lol Im watching these videos again because its time to do it again.
@terrymutant3581
@terrymutant3581 5 лет назад
@@jeremynelson8496 Yeah this was a very important thing I couldn't find the answer to and felt a little nervous, which delayed me a few extra days (LOL) I lot of attention is placed on making marks on the belt but I think really isn't necessary. The real deal is just putting on the belt and making deadly sure the cams and main crank are aligned after several turns. It freaked me out not having the white marks line up again ....ever. My first timing was changed by the dealer at 120,000 miles only because the youtube video I saw was very intimidating. And I had more money then so I just let someone else deal with it. Now at 212,000 it was an easy job to do really. I felt good after doing the job and saving money. Now I'm in the middle of changing the front struts and CV axles. Good Luck
