i am an avid diyer but damn this scares me. thanks for letting me know paying a guy 1000 bucks will be worth it over risking messing something up myself. Awesome vid
Oh Great! I have a Mercury Mariner...totally kidding. More 80 series please! I've utilized much of your video series on the 80. But I've not gained the courage to tackle the ring n' pinion task yet, even though I've purchased new r&p for front and rear. I've even changed careers from IT analyst to heavy diesel tech since we last spoke a few times on live chat. AND moved from CO to KY in that time too. Trying to get closer to you, Ryan. lol At any rate, never needed A/C in CO or WY while I was there. But just a couple weeks ago, I drove thru a rain storm in KY and near'bouts drove off the road due to fog on the windscreen. Need A/C now more than ever. My rig (a K294/'93 (bragging)) has A/C but it's never worked. Pulled the caps and hit the schrader and nothing came out. No idea how long it's been since it last worked. So presumably I need new everything. I am EPA609 certified now so figure I could push through okay. BUT If you could find it in your time to do a video covering a full system replacement (Compressor/Condenser/Dryer/TXV/Evaporator, naturally specific to 80series AND which also transitions to 134A) it would be jolly well capital. Down-right on time if I'm honest. Love your work. Godspeed. And Happy Trails!
The 80 series AC is pretty robust. I pull a good deep vacuum on it for a few hours to dry the system out and see if it leaks. If it holds vacuum or just has a small leak recharge with dye and see how it does. It'd be rare you'd need to replace everything.
Absolutely. The water pumps are usually bad at 90k. We do everything behind the timing covers along with the fan bracket, serpentine belt and tensioner, and heater tees.
It's weird. I usually edit listening to my computer speakers. It sounds normal on them. When I switched to my headphones, it's definitely only one side. My new audio cord must be bad.
Otramm Video idea. research top 15 Suv and truck sales. Then find top 5 complaints weak spots in reliability on these Easy to find this data . Make videos of how to maintain these trucks properly so as to get the most miles out of them. We all could use this information. and the audience will be large for the top 15 . Discuss lubricants full Synthetic and Dino juice oils test them . Diff oils and show how dirty they get and need changing. for example Americas SUV the Ford Explorer how to change the oil , diff, and 4X4 transfer case Lubricants'. Best to you from Mitch.
Great video! Question: @5:25 what is that resistor you unplugged? I found that the car will not run w/o that resistor plugged in but I don't know what it's called or what it does. Thanks.
I watched your 80s series head gasket videos years ago and did my own head gasket with very little mechanical knowledge. It’s held up now 3 years and 36k miles. Thank you for doing such a great series. I have a 200 now and would love to see more basic 200 maintenance like your oil change one. 200 starter replacement Cam tower leak Any other 200 things I’m paranoid about for the future. Buyers guides on any cars you’re familiar with.
Nice to see you! Love the video. Basic maintenance is so important. I would love to either see a video or have a video similar to your 2UZFE exhaust manifold install about how to remove the broken valve cover bolt up against the firewall. I know on IH8MUD some people have almost given up and pulled the motor to fix. Would love to hear how you handle it.
I don't think it would be possible to film either of those. There just isn't enough room. On the valve cover bolts I tig weld nuts on to the broken bolt and pull them out.
Gonna echo that your 80 series content is really amazing, and appreciated. Any additional videos for 80s fixes and maintenance would be awesome. That said, I’m also interested in maintenance topics for the 3rd gen Tacoma like this one. Specifically checking the level or changing fluid on the automatic transmission. Typical stuff that keeps them trouble free and on the road long term.
Removing an engine? Removing body off frame? Wiring locker dial to function like factory while using aftermarket lockers? Thanks for all your great videos, help and energy.
Thanks good information. Question when changing def oil and transfer oil in a 40 series what brand do you recommend ? Would you recommend using Toyota’s or is there something else? Thanks
Your channel is a great resource, used to listen all the time when I had my 100. I’ve been considering getting into another 100 but would want to make it into what it was like when new. I don’t have the time I used to so let me know if you would be interested in a full rebuild of a 100 series and documenting the process.
Really appreciate your videos, gave me the courage to strip down and maintain the hubs on my HDJ80. There aren’t many 80s in the uk but we few are enthusiastic. I don’t think you have many diesels over there but I would be interested in a talk about engine fuel pump and injectors etc..
Australian 100 series owner here. I find your videos really helpful. I would love to see a video discussing how to diagnose and fix common problems with landcruisers when out on the trail. What are some basic diagnostic checks you can do on the trail to work out what the problem is. Also, it would be great if you could make a video discussing the tools and spare parts you recommend landcruiser owners take with them on a long trip, and also discussing what you take when you do trips. Keep up the great work.
My 100 series “99” is making a growling sound that seems to be the front differential. The tone changes when I’m on the throttle as opposed to off the throttle. If it is a common problem for the front differential to go bad, a video regarding diagnosing and repairing would be amazing. Thanks for all your videos, they have helped me more than you know.
The earlier 100s had a weaker front diff if I recall correctly. If the pitch changes with throttle it's possibly the pinion bearings. It could also be the slip joint in one of the driveshafts.
if and when you have the chance to do a full 1fz-fe rebuild that would be so killer. enjoyed what i have seen of yours in the past and found it very hepful. thanks!!
4 runner/ Tacoma / Tundra/Sequioa stuff would be cool. Your opinion on the new 250 series. Run moab or Rubicon or similiar and give trail repair or offroad tips.
