Thanks a lot. I freaked out when the Metra harness I bought did not fit the stock harness. All I had to do was disconnect the stock amp like you showed.

I have a question. My 2000 Toyota 4Runner radio does not want to turn on. I took it apart and found 3 cables that weren't plugged into anything. I found out that two of the white cables were suppose to be plugged into the amp, which weren't, but even after I plugged them in the radio didn't turn on. There is still a grey cable that is not plugged into anything and I can't seem to find anything to plug it into. In your video at about 3:33 when you start talking about the amplifier, I see something brown with what seems like the grey cable plugged into. I don't have that brown part in my car, do you happen to know what it is and if it is required for my radio to work? I've checked the fuses but they are all good. Thanks for your help

hello . I have a 2001 4runner and coincidentally I just bought that same stereo solo. I don't have the adapter that goes to the car connector. Could you tell me where to get it?

keep in mind not all gen threes are the same. Doing my 98 Limited, the cover around the shifter will not come all the way out, there is a little screw on the 4WD lever that is holding the knob in place. Mine won't come off, so the cover will tilt out of the way, but not come off. ( a drag, because I would want to detail everything) Next, the face plate (mine is wood grain with the vent, defogger, etc. stuff) do not try to yank off! There are two tiny Philips head screws on the left of the heater controls, and a third, on the upper left, a bi hard to see. Yanking will snap them! Also pull off the knobs first. Next, you'll have to pull off the back connectors for the 4 way flashers, the rear defroster and the horn. handy to label those. Also, you'll need to remove the power and the lights from both the cigarette lighter and the little bulb in the ashtray. Good time to change those bulbs. You might be able to work on the radio without removing, but the cover was in the way, plus after 23 years and 280k miles it needed to come out to be detailed and some of the scuffed paint touched up. I never like to put back dirty parts! its still a bitch, as I was trying to get out the antennae, but no go. I thought that perhaps pulling the radio would give me the antennae, than I could somehow snake it out and run a new one! Not so easy by a long shot. No demo video of changing fixing the antennae shows pulling the whole assembly and swapping out the cord.

Thank you you are a life saver. Mine was like that. It’s a 99 model. I was trying to fix my clock not the radio but I knew looking up the radio would give me more results.

Do you happen to know what newer model Toyota 4Runner radio with Bluetooth can fit into a 2001 Toyota 4Runner without modifying plastic panels?
@bullseyetacticalfirearms
@bullseyetacticalfirearms 2 года назад
The Pioneer double DIN models work great. A nice small gap around the face to the plastic panel.

No need to have ignition on, there’s a manual shifter release at front right corner of shifter area. Pull up tab and depress in hole with key or screwdriver to unlock shifter, mainly used when wrecker is needing to toe. Still a nice video!

I installed a Pioneer 2 DIN in my 2000 4Runner today. I wanted to mention one detail. Remove the factory amp. Using one of the adapter harnesses that you attach to the Pioneer pigtail, you will attach the two connectors to the two that you removed from the back of the factory amp. The wires will NOT be color coded the same on the factory connectors. For example, the black ground wire becomes a brown ground wire. But assuming you connected the adapter harness correctly to the Pioneer pigtail, the connectors will work. I have the Toyota color-coded wiring schematic book for my 4Runner and I confirmed that the wires do match even though most of the colors are different on the connectors in the dash. The orange wire coming from the Pioneer was not used for my wiring. And for God's sake, disconnect the battery ground before doing all this! Better safe than sorry.

I just hooked up a double din pioneer head unit to my 4runner too. I'm encountering an issue now where my back speakers aren't working despite the fact that the harness is completely hooked up. And idea what the issue could possibly be?
@bullseyetacticalfirearms
@bullseyetacticalfirearms Год назад
@@frankfontaine9974 Double check the connectors are connected properly. Then I would try bypassing the harness and temporarily direct wire to either speaker. Nothing fancy, just raw ends wrapped around the connectors or jammed in the holes. If it works, the problem is in the harness in between. If it doesn't, you could be using the wrong wire out of the Pioneer or the unit is not working. Also, don't forget the obvious that your balance adjustment is not all the way forward to just the front speakers. Just guessing without being there. You can also use a test light at the speakers to check current, but the direct wire is just as easy if you have wire handy.
@frankfontaine9974
@frankfontaine9974 Год назад
@@bullseyetacticalfirearms Good idea. I wish it were as simple as me forgetting to check the balance, but unfortunately that's not the case. I think before that my next step will be to take a multi meter to the positive/negative wires both before the harness and after the harness to see if they're getting any power. Second step will be to do as you said
@bullseyetacticalfirearms
@bullseyetacticalfirearms Год назад
@@frankfontaine9974 Yes, check continuity. I mention the wires because some people don't have a meter or know how to use them. You could also attach any car speaker directly to the Pioneer outputs to make sure you have the correct wires for the rear speakers. Your vehicle did not come with the optional top of the line deluxe JBL system, did it? I read that the harness did not work for those systems.
