Ho do you get to the top bellhousing bolts. Putting an FT back in an 80 and its ridiculous. Pulled it off with the head off which made it easy to access the bolts. Complete motor going back in . Effing tight
Sorry bit late to reply but I drop the gearbox crossmember and then go through the shifter hole with about 5 extensions with preferably a friend holding the socket on. Easiest way.
Unfortunately not. The harness side is a merge of both FTE and 80 series harnesses. Bit hard to video. Have to get both schematics and work out which wire needs to go where.
Hey Brendon, I noticed you explained in episode one that the FTE is far better than the HDT? Could you go into some more detail as to why this is please as I am still very new to 4wd's and the engines etc Thanks :D
Ted James the fte has a better flowing head so it will make way more power with minimal effort. It also has an electronic fuel pump vs the hdt mechanical so tuning it is miles better. You can crank up the fueling and make it a power house but still have no smoke off the line. With the hdt being mechanical, to get big power up top you sacrifice off the line smoke. A tuned mechanical pump will black smoke a lot but it can't be helped due to how they're designed.
So the FTE is basically "Better" because it's electronic? I can understand what you're saaying with the less effort part etc being better but what if you're somewhere remote and have an issue with electronics, you'd need an auto elec to help you right??
Ted James nah the fte is only electronic pump. That's all. Not like newer cars were everything is. So really compared to a hdt they only have an extra 3 plugs on pump. Not really much to worry about. They're all sealed plugs so not too much of an issue. Just be careful. ;P if you're one that likes to think your car is a boat then maybe a 1hdt is for you.
