Just got a hybrid and it's great. I don't sit in the back when I'm driving so I don't care. anyone complains, they can walk...The rear door handles are side hinged so you can open them like a normal handle. Safest car on the road.
one thing reviewers fail to mention is the reliability of toyota/lexus group which is on top for the last 3 years as far as I'm aware. You buy this car and im sure it's mechanics/electronics would function fine even after a decade
Personally I like the back seat to be somewhat secluded like that, Dark is okay, it's like a little cocoon, isolated from the outside world and private.
I think that on this occasion, that was Toyota's intention. The visibility, impractical boot and rear seat atmosphere are what suffer most. The cup holders in the doors are a nice touch, though.
CJ P it was their intention to give it the Coupé look. The 'C' stands for Coupé. Coupé High Rider. I own a Coupé, and they all suffer from smaller back window poor view out, but I've never seen it to the extent of this. It may aswell not have windows. If you are to look to the side, all you see is 'C' pillar. You need to lean forward to actually see out. Add that the the very dark interior, it's extremely gloomy interior. It's just a not very nice. Also the materials at close inspection are not very good. And that screen looks so poor to. It's worse in person. The Rav4 doesn't have a modern interior, its actually quite agricultural but it's miles ahead of this. The kuga is a far nicer place to be, and the he 3008 is probably the best interior for under £50k nevermind the £25k of he GT-line is. (shame about the engines).
PasteyWhiteboy those processors need to keep up with the high/low temperature, vibration and stay functional for a long time, a normal mobile phone/tablet chip won't do well, so i guess that's what hold them back
I never understood why some people are obsessed with big door bin volumes and cup holders in abundance. They can't survive a short drive without drinking 2 liters of water or one liter of coffee? And carbuywow and whatever review makes you feel this is one of the most important feature of a car. If you cant store at least 2 liters of water in the door bin, it fails the carwowbuy big bottle test. Do not buy the car then. You will die because of lack of side door bin space to store water and dehydration.
If you are not the kind of person who travels in your car then they don't matter at all...I go on long trips in my car so having cupholders is important as on a 5-6 hour drive you will need a drink
Yes, we all died of dehydration in the 'old days', not. For those who 'need' everything to be the biggest, go to the states. How many people drive for 4-5 hours without a break on a daily basis? Visibility is a bigger issue. The car looks good from the outside, not bad on the inside. Car choice isn't life or death. For those who have to complain about every miniscule inconvenience, I say, "Are you perfect?"
lovely machine. hybrid version is the one to go for, really nice to drive, although cvt gearbox can be noisy it's also extremely smooth. shame they didn't make the car that bit bigger though. I love the design, love to see them take the same approach with the styling of the next rav4.
seriously now, your comments make me wonder...how can it be that no one likes the design of this car? This is the first time i see a car in its final stage to look so close to a futuristic concept. I mean everyone goes "wow" with the presentations of concept cars And now that Toyota actually made a car look modern futuristic straight out of the original concept design, everyone on the internet bashes Toyota and the designers and the final appearance of this car... The car looks amazing! It looks like a Lexus concept Seriously whats wrong with you people? Is this some kind of Europe vs Japan automobile fanboyism? I really would like to know what car do you drive? Do you like the design of cars like WV golf or Audi Q2?...Because no matter if its 2017 they still do look like a boxy tin bucket for shit gathering... Toyota makes the most reliable cars. I wont compare their reliability with Peugeot nor other European brands at that price point. Yeah you can get the Peugeot 3008 for less money but you will spend double for all the problems that will occur after a few years...
People are in general just hateful morons that like to bash on everything that is not standard, boring and premium. The C-HR is an amazing car and can look amazing with the right trim.
Mitchell Ok...i know that it is matter of taste But that bashing is akward...since Most people writing comments are young people perhaps under 35 years old who are supposed to be...less conservative and more modern... Anyways, the car may have its flaws But it is a modern and premium looking car. Some things i dont like about it are the small back windows creating low light and poor visibility for the passengers and driver. But this is something Toyota can improve adding a sunroof perhaps on the next year model. Both engines petrol and hybrid have mediocre fuel economy and feel abit weak. Also for an SUV it is sitting kinda low. 15 cm off the ground is like a normal car. Not ideal for a crossover. Those are things i saw from other reviewers. I wonder if those engines are strong enough to carry 4 -5 adults At longer distances. With a loaded bootlit
My dad owns it. I've driven it quite some times now. We've got the hybrid version and I really dislike the engine revving when you're accelerating onto the highway. It's worse than on the Pruis (old and new model). I love the interior, except for the small windows in the back. It's also very very dark inside and it could definitely use some LED accent lights inside. The engine is strong enough to carry 5 people, it only revs a lot more (the typical CVT sound). The way you make your argument is just so much nicer to read, it's well written and not plain simple and stupid bashing. Thanks for that.
Drove this in Japan. Quite a fun car to drive. Good looking small SUV. The only down side is lack of practical space at the boot, blind spot at the rear and dark back seat.
This car might've got quiet a lot of abuse. If it's a test drive car nobody would really take care of it. But yeah , that wasn't quiet supposed to happen no matter how rough you are with it.
looks like a weird bug, a praying mantis, inelegant. it's gonna look dated & tired in 2-3 years, at which time you're gonna have to replace it anyway, when all the freaking electronics goes haywire.
@@lootokay6432 Indeed, that's not funny. The thing is, the joke hasn't arrived yet! Maybe after If and when I delivery of my brand new C-HR I'll think of one.
Who cares about small windows? When was the last time a kid in the back seat looked out the window? These windows are going to diminish the glare on the tablet/mobile phone screen and kids will probably love them.
hawkesworth1712. It's about maximising visibility, so you don't squash kids while reversing or side swipe another car joining traffic or changing lane. These cars usually have 'stylish' mirrors as well, meaning too small. Camera might help, but you can't get away from the fact that the basic design is seriously flawed from a safety point of view. Nice looker though.
@@jeremylister89 . The car has a reversing camera, sensors front and back, blind spot warning, cross traffic alert and three mirrors. If that's not enough to avoid squashing a kid then the driver needs to hand their licence back.
This the car my mum just got, and its awesome. Im 13 yrs old and I luv this car :). Its electric and has heatings for the seats and at night it glows up and says toyota something something all in GOLD. I LOVE THIS CAR!!! Also when u reverse, u have a camera at the back of the car so you can see if there are cars when you reverse
I think this would be a great car for a first time driver not expecting to carry much passengers. Especially the back windows which would be great if you only intend the car to be for you alone.
We had this as a hire car and I loved the design inside and out. Also a very comfortable drive but like Mat says the wind noise is very noticeable (particularly on motorways). Rear view is very limited but then you do get a reversing camera.
So, i want to tell this for you guys that want to buy this car now or in the future. I have this Toyota CHR, C-ult bitone. It have some things that i don't like, like this ones: you have to turn on the car so you can close your open windows (you can't do it with the key. It have Follow me home function, but not that good, when you reach home, you have to press the AUTO button bellow the steering wheel and then push the stick to high beam and then you'll get the 30 sec-50 sec till you get in house. But you won't get it if you unlock it in the night with the key or the smart entry. Another thing that i don't like is the Lane keeping assist. It works, but sometimes it let you pass the lane and then take you back. Also if you have a big phone... bad for you 😂 This should be all, i just got mine 3 days ago. (Sorry for some mistakes)
funny how reverse camera and cruise control are standard but not sat nav pretty much proof Toyota are witholding certain features just to get you to spend more on an higher spec model. I mean those 2 standard options I mentioned are things buyers arent that bothered about but sat nav is a lot harder to go without.
I definitely love the model and the car itself, it looks very sporty-ish and it looks great. I don’t know anything about vehicles engine etc, but I love how it looks and runs. Amazing☺️
A cool thing is at night when you're approaching your car a beam of light from the bottom of the wing mirrors shines onto the road with "Toyota CH-R" I fangirled like mad when I saw it, I love hidden features.
Can someone explain to me why most in car "tablets" are still low res and awfully slow? I assume it's a cost thing, but just how little money do car manufacturers budget for this kind of thing? You can get considerably faster budget Android tablets for around 60 quid so it makes me wonder why they are not an option.
In the US the CH-R is hybrid only. Honestly, I see that as a plus. I've always wanted a Toyota HSD hybrid and just not in a Prius form factor. The CH-R I think is a wonderful option.
This car has all the mod cons and parks up for you as well as reverses and parks ... the wing mirrors fold in and it warns you when you swerve from lanes when tired.. it also is a quieter car to drive than a GLA with it's noisy diesel and outside noise from side mirrors... overall it's worth getting as a luxury car with safety and easy driving as well as long distance travel eco and automatic lights when in dark places as it dims the lights when on beam on motorways which is very convenient on long drives in country lanes and motorways... it also isn't as obnoxious as the other cars such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW
I don't understand this car. It's really big on the outside but looks quite cramped and small on the inside. And why do the side windows have to be this tiny?
Really glad I read reviews first about this car before I thought about trading cars. Absolutely loved the exterior, however the interior made me rethink ..
I wouldn't say this car rivals the Nissan Qashqai, Seat Ateca or Renault Kadjar, it seems more like a compact crossover that would go up against the likes of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, etc. I think...and I'm right, the Toyota RAV4 is more aimed at bigger SUV's like the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Kadjar.
Best part is....despite people complaining about its ''ugly'' looks, it probably is more reliable than any other brand. Toyota should stick to their simple and conservative attitude towards trendy looks and focus entirely on reliability! ...like always....
Finally, Mat reviews a manual transmission vehicle. I was starting to think that he could only drive automatics and I was getting sick of the automatics too.
So I hit it in the center. You really think Nokia 3210 is the greatest design achievement ever. By the way you shouldn't have any prejudices toward people based on their origins. You are very conservative in that respect too, and should really do something about that.
Lol That Toyota touch screen speed is from the 90ties dear, do not speak about VAG the number one car maker in the world. Work hard maybe one day you can afford a VAG car
My dad has this car and I’ve got to say it’s one of the best cars. Unfortunately because I’m 6’2 the headroom and Windows in the back do make it very tight. Overall it’s a good car
Just want to take a second to say your reviews are pretty awesome. You nail all the important bits, the video quality is good, you're entertaining, and you're consistent so we know what to expect. Keep up the good work man
I took this car in hybrid version for a test, because i liked the look of it, but the hybrid version just dont drive right, and getting in the back is a problem plus the windows are far to small in the back too
The car looks smaller than actually is because of the shape: front and back are both curved, no corners (anything with strong corners looks bigger due the bigger diagonals). This car (the 1.2 l turbo - manual) is perfect for me (1.77m tall) ! Very well designed!
This sort of car from Toyota is the direct result of people calling toyotas boring. I wish they didn't buckle to the criticism because they're just not good at making cheap interesting cars. Thats the domain of Hyandia. Toyota can make some bloody good cars at a higher price point but their entry level cars were always great due to the reliability and practicality. Starting to feel like my 15 year old camry will never die. And it fits things modern crossovers wont.
Went to look at this yesterday as my wife was interested in one. Note for tall passengers, there is no passenger seat height adjustment as standard or as an option. I'm 6'4" and couldn't sit in it without my head scraping on the roof. Shame because it was quite nice otherwise.
who has children these days when the world population is approaching 8 billion and cities are congested to the extent that they are unlivable?. This sort of cars are for singles and couples ( sensible, environmentally friendly) with no kids.
I didn’t expect the rear door windows to be THAT small. Really not liking the trend of shitty visibility in these new crossovers, I’m better off getting the new Corrola Touring Sports.
I wish you would talk about the leg room COMFORT at the pedals for taller (6ft) drivers. Many of these cars lack space and you have your feet bent sideways on the pedals.
Well I absolutely love this car and would pick it over a 3008 or Tiguan any day (fact that you can spec a full option one for around 35 grand helps a lot) but I really think Toyota went bonkers with only offering low power engines. In a car that handles nicely and drives sporty (and also looks sporty) you don't want acceleration of 11 seconds. At least 9 seconds, but you can't get that since the hybrid or the 1.2 petrol are equally slow. Too bad, because I wouldn't buy it now. Seems the GT86 isn't the only underpowered Toyota anymore. Shame on the marketing guys.
To be honest he's right I would consider it but in the United States it does come with a 2 liter but the problem I will have is that CVT which is standard and the fact that the door handles in the back is not practical with people who are short. But I like the sporty image in that class I rather the Mazda CX-3
saw one of these in the flesh the other day and they don't look too bad, certainly a bit of an eye catcher - but if there was ever a car that needed a better engine range, this is it!
It's a bit of a shame Mat, that you never try to look at things from a child's perspective - e.g. how can an 8-year-old open these bloody rear doors. It's effectively a family car, so such things matter!
Deuteross He literally always says how kids would like it in the back of the car and things like that. After all this isn't even advertised as a family car.
'The Toyota C-HR is a family SUV that rivals crossovers such as the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar, and Toyota RAV4. It’s just about practical enough to meet the needs of a young family' - excerpts from a review on the CARWOW website. It seems, these are claims without support. BTW, who cares about Toyota advertising?
Considering how small the windows in the back are, among other things, seems like a better SUV for a single driver or just a couple. I have to say though, the look of the car is sexy, like really draws me. Unpopular opinion? I don’t know, that spoiler thing on the back looks a bit odd and pointless on an SUV, but I think if I ever got an SUV it would be a CH-R.
