Wow! For a solo performed and recorded transmission seal replacement (without a lift), this video is fantastic! Clearly this gentleman knows his business….and did both beautiful mechanical work and videography. Kudos!! Nice to know that Toyota had such well-trained technicians working for them. Dr. K.

I do these at work with a 2 post lift. The fact that you did that all on the ground is unreal! I hope what you quoted for labor was well worth it, since it's extremely hard on your body replacing a transaxle on the ground.

Great, how to video. It's a stark difference between a garage with a lift and working with floor jacks and stands. I applaude your effort in trying to show us all the details in your videos. I'm a diyr and today I dropped the trans on my 123k mile 2nd gen tacoma because of torque converter shudder. It took my brother and I two days. First time me doing any service to that transmission. Keep posting more videos. I know it's hard recording and then editing all to make it presentable.

People are acting like the transmission failed. It was a cheap little seal. Good Job none the less. I couldn’t do that on the floor with jack stands.

If you have to drop more transmissions, consider the hb trans jack. I used that on my 240 clutch job and it made the job easier. The issue is that you have to jack up the car higher.

Big jobs like these are always great when your not on the clock. It's when I do my best work. You need to trench out your foundation and maybe blow out that ceiling to put an inground lift in. Life will be so much easier, especially if your going to continue to take on more home jobs. But on the ground electric HD motorcycle jacks come in handy for trans jobs (they have the perfect frame to secure entire trans and even engines under 600lbs)
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 года назад
Yea nice being able to take a break and walk into the kitchen for a snack whenever as well lol. I have 9ft ceilings in there and the big beam at the roof is a support beam for the 2nd story of the house so cant really do much about that. I am considering getting a bendpak half lift. basically a 2 post lift with half the height.

Normally don't, it looked as though that seal wasn't fully seated from the factory. The job of putting that seal in on the assembly line is a boring, monotonous job. Maybe the person in that position just screwed up and didn't get it fully seated.

There are 11 BOLTS around the transmission bell housing not 10. Thanks for causing me to work extra hours to remove my transmission from the engine. And yes, I have the same set up as you do. Also, for your readers, there are 6 bolts holding the flex plate to the transmission. One of those bolts is darker to set the rest of the holes perfect for when you bolt them in on install.
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia Год назад
Sorry if I mis spoke. But if it took you “hours” to figure out that there was an extra bolt holding the trans to the engine idk if you should be doing a job like this. Literally can look around and find what bolts hold the trans on in like 5 minutes…

They are, but like anything it’s going to depend on how it was treated and even known good cars can have rare issues,and even the opposite known bad cars can have the rare one that runs and lasts for a long time, I also believe this is the first year for the 8 speed in the Camry.I don’t understand why they wouldn’t replace it under warranty?

Aisin transmissions are excellent transmissions. They’re even used in Volvos. This leaking seal is an exception. Perhaps a poorly sourced seal from Taiwan/China. Denso has over 20 factories in China

My hats off to you man, I don’t like doing side work especially if I don’t have a lift, I’ll admit I’m lazy and spoiled if I can’t do it at the shop I’m not doing it. My question is how is it not covered under powertrain. Technically that seal is considered internal lubricant an I can’t see that being considered a wearable item. Than again I’m a CDJR tech and warranty is a bit different for manufacturers.
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 года назад
Toyota didn’t want to cover it until they can confirm where the leak was coming from. So say the customer agreed and had Toyota do it. Had the seal not been covered. The dealer would then charge the customer for the labor of RR the trans.

Not sure it you will get this question. I have a 2018 Camry. About two years ago i could feel my Car at Highway Speeds feeling kinda strange. Took it to 3 different Toyota Dealerships over time whiles getting an Oil Change. Finally last April 2022 was told they saw a little bit of a leakage that they would monitor. Then the Same around in October 2022. Then i went to as for a flush, i was told that there was now a large leakage, there is no way for them to check how much fluid i have because these newer transmissions don't have a dip stick. And i might need a new Transmission 🤔 😡. Should i get a new one or try to get it rebuild? Im over this Camry.

Thanks man I would follow what ever the repair manual says especially when it comes to that balance shaft. I didnt do enough of those motors to remember off the top of my head. What repair manual are you using? If its a legit website for repair manuals like all data or pro demand its not going to give you false information.

@@LetsDriftMedia thanks for replying! It’s a Haynes repair manual. Not the best but I don’t do enough of these repairs to pay for a good one.

@@The.Car.Guru. no problem should be good just make sure the marks are still aligned after you install it, sometimes it moves a little when it mates with the crankshaft.

I wonder how much that seal cost.. and how much it would cost to get the repair done at the dealer?
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 года назад
Seal cost 15$ but it’s a 15hr job so labor looking like 2 grand +
@frankgilligan1740
@frankgilligan1740 2 года назад
Seal is around 10 bucks. Labor is around 12 hrs. So gonna run you well over $1000. Idk how much the dealer charges per hour of labor but it’s around $100 at mine

When replacing the transmission on a 2018 Camry. Does the car require any type of “relearn” or reset to the shift logic on the transmission ?
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 10 месяцев назад
Yes a relearn for the trans ecu is required when installing a new trans, or torque converter, but if you skip that step it wont be the end of the world. Ive seen it plenty of times when I worked in the dealer.

Would this be similar to a 2008 avalon limited? I have an issue where the car shudders in 2nd gear going into 3rd and it goes away if let go of the gas or accelerate more. I'm thinking it's the torque converter. Loved the vid btw man. Just subbed!
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 8 месяцев назад
Those transmissions had a torque converter recall. Not sure if it’s still covered anymore. But the process would be similar as far as steps you take.
