Here is a brief video to guide you to the location with a description of all 4 of your VVT sensors. Including Intake camshaft sensors bank 1 and bank 2. Exhaust camshaft sensors bank 1 and bank 2. I’ve already completed the hard part for you, there are a total of four sensors and the repair harness/ wiring is the same for each sensor, here are links for you. Cheers 🤗

I had a heck of a time getting exact detailed information for the sensors, this truck is throwing the code P0348 so I wanted to locate all of the sensors and see if there is by chance any rodent damage or if I just needed to replace the sensor.
If you need assistance in locating replacing or repairing any of the sensors or their wiring subscribe to my channel fas for I will create a video and have it posted shortly, where I will be repairing the wire and replace the electrical harness for my intake sensor bank 2. Also I will share any parts or tools I use in order to complete this work using my Amazon associates links, by you using my links to purchase the parts or tools it helps me grow my channel. Thank you everyone advance and I hope you find all this to be very helpful.
Out of all of the sensors this was an unfortunate sensor for a rodent to have gotten a hold of as it is located under the intake manifold and was difficult work in this tight area. One thing to take note of if you did not catch it in the video is that most insurance companies actually cover rodent damage so if this is a task you prefer not to take on yourself then I highly recommend contacting your insurance company.
Cheers!

Wow what are the odds that a rat chews my wire on the exact day you posted this video, 8 months after you posted the 1st video I watched to help me find the bad wire.

@Florida_man420 now that is a coincidence, I hope this video helps you get it figured out 👌🏼

@@TweekerDan1984gonna try today. Unfortunately the rat chewed the wires clean off at the connector AND again where the 3 from the connector go into the harness. So there’s like no exposed wire, hopefully I can get some length exposed. Plus I’m a big guy so working in cramped spaces really sucks 😂

@@TweekerDan1984got it done. Wasn’t bad at all after I got the harness loose from the clips. I also undid the sensor wire on the thermostat which allowed me to get more of the harness loose

Great video. I had the exact same issue on the same sensor. Wires were gone. I ordered a Rat Zapper also. Thx!

Completed my repair. I soldered the wires, doubled up on heatshrink, used a heat gun to give a tight fit, then wrapped that with cable loom and 8.5 mil electrical tape. Left extra wire in case the rat accepts my challenge. I took photos if anyone is interested. $40 all in for materials. Thx again!

Thinking about buying a fire rated rubber snake and placing around that vvt.

Thank you so much for this video. I replaced my spark plugs and one of the wire on the passenger side camshaft plug broke. Mechanical stuff I have no issue fixing, I get nervous with anything to do with electrical or wiring. This video gave me the confidence to tackle it on my own.

I ended up doing this full repair with wires all lined up and still having the problems. Same bank and everything. My wires were chewed up in between as well. I guess maybe I have to get a new position sensor? On a 2020 Tacoma

It will continue to happen for as long as a momma rodent can enter the area under the plenum. I have plans to exclude rodent entry into this entire area and to place a metal shield around the entire senor and the wire leading to the greater wiring harness. This will accomplish two things, first no rodents allowed. Second, if the first fails, she will NOT be able to move the shield nor chew any exposed wires.

I’m trying to do a very similar repair on my 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Rd. Got the check engine light, took to autozone to read code and it came back as camshaft position sensor. I’ve been told to buy OEM so I’d much rather replace just the assumed one faulty sensor. I know how to test the sensors with a multimeter…but I’d like a bidirectional scanner that can tell me which sensor it is given I’ll have to relearn the sensor after replacing. And that’s apparently not a once size fits all. Trying to save money but also would like to be able to perform fixes myself. I'm generally handy but definitely not mechanically inclined. More of oil changes and brakes familiarity. I saw that your OBD2 read which sensor was faulty…do you know if it’s capable to relearning a new one or do you know which scanner would be?

I am up to my neck in this right now. This is a rodent behavioral problem, as you said, and rightly so, this area is PERFECT for rodents of nearly any size, all except for those wires that are right in the way. These are removed by momma rodent and then she begins to stuff the area with debris to have babies in the most secure place any rodent can ever hope to find. The owner of the vehicle is out thousands of dollars. Okay, so it isn't really the perfect rodent house, but the rodents don't know this and we can't figure out how to stop them? They did a better job against Godzilla than these furry critters. At least a factory ultra-sonic device and some metal clips to shield some of the more difficult to access areas, would be enough to tell us that they care? I would even purchase them after market, if anyone can any connections there. If wires are this difficult and complicated to access, then they should be shielded by law and the entire area under the plenum should be shielded by wire caging or even an inflatable and unchewable balloon to exclude rodents from entering in and remaining in this very expensive wiring area. We can't stop them from chewing wires, but we can stop them from entering certain sensitive areas, and this is where Toyo is GUILTY of NEGLECT, in my opinion. This is just common sense, so are the solutions. It will not protect the other exposed wiring on the vehicle, but this very expensive job should be treated with a bit more proactivity on part of the geniuses at Toyota who build the perfect rat home, then leave this inaccessible area open to the rodents BUT NOT technicians who must remove the entire upper intake to even begin fixing anything. $2300 Love my Toyota, not really loving Toyota engineers and lawyers or how they react when you try to talk to them about this. They act in denial of anything you have to say about it. Even when you offer a solution. Disappointed Toyota owner.

This is a tricky one, I believe lavender or peppermint is supposed to help deter them. I will look into this and see if I can figure anything else out.

I can’t get the sensor to come off, how do they clip in?
@TweekerDan1984
@TweekerDan1984 3 месяца назад
Are you referring to the harness clipped onto the sensor?
@TweekerDan1984
@TweekerDan1984 3 месяца назад
The harness should have a red tab that you have to pull back. After you slide this locking tab back you would press in on a little black tab on the sensor harness and you may have to just wiggle a little bunch to get it off. Sometimes you can use a screwdriver to press on this little black tab, another route would be to remove the entire sensor and then try to remove the electrical harness.

It has pins, use a pick or small needle nose to press the release tab.
