VERY HELPFUL INFO thanks for the effort putting this together i have a ra63 82 carina coupe gt had 18rgeu now fully rebuilt moded worked 3tgteu and parts are rear as next to impossible to find do you know much about where i could source parts from im in new zealand great content keep it up
it's a shame i never see A60's running around here. i always see the next generation though (which i like a lot), but with a terrible LHD conversion due to the stupid laws. i love the sportiness of the celica, but the practicality of the corona. the next generation came also with the 4A-GE that is the one i got in my celica. very good motor.
I think I once saw a video of a Carina GT-R AA63 in Peru once (you are from Peru, right?) so they are definitely there. and I think it also received the LHD conversion. The video has gone, so I can't link to it anymore. Also saw one with a LHD conversion for sale in 2008: www.banpei.net/2008/10/29/carina-sightings-carina-gtr-aa63-in-peru The next generation Carina is ubiquitous here as well as this generation was only sold in the Netherlands for 2 years.
banpeinet yes. i'm from Peru. wow! that car is in great condition considering it's here. it still has the old license plates so it might be from an old owner. the things you have to look for a converted car here "timon cambiado" is that you have to check that they made a good job. my celica for example had an imported USDM steering column so it's perfect (except for the inverted blinker and wiper levers), but some of them were bad and had a terrible vibration that can't be fixed or they have weak parts from old cars. you can't do that anymore, so you have to grab your JDM car before they are gone. what a shame. i was going to get a beautiful GX71 cresta but the engine was busted and my mechanic told me not to buy it (i ended up getting a Mitsubishi Sapporo). I think I've seen one of those carinas like yours somewhere, but they are pretty rare.
Can't find u on Facebook. I am hunting for production figures for the 3tgte powered cars in Japan. I found ta63 production numbers as a whole but wanting to know how many of each Gtt and gttr
I've given up my Facebook account some two years ago, so that could be right. You can find my channel email in the contact tab here on RU-vid. To be honest, I have no other production numbers than the counts for the Carina and Celica ta63 combined. Also the TA63 wasn't only used for the 3T-GTE but also for the 3T-EU. For half a year (October 1982 to April 1983) both engines were sold alongside each other and designated TA63. Judging from the surviving numbers the GT-TR was more popular than the GT-T, but this could very well be skewed by the fact the GT-TR was worth saving for the higher trim level
this really isnt good for my carina fetish! just found a JDM 1983 AA63 Carina GT-TR in norway and its giving me the tingles. Im already looking to sell my kidneys...
no idea so far, will know more if i end up buying it. Although i need to revert from the coilovers and swap to LHD headlights. dude wants 4800 euros. Tempting...
Good question! ;) I only included the JDM Carina lineup here. I own a Euro spec 1982 Toyota Carina DX TA60, so it will not exist in this overview. I described the differences slightly around 10:38 and mine looks a bit more similar to the SG. Maybe get into this in a future JDM trivia? :P
