Ah.. there’s only a few practical places hydrogen comes from, natural gas or water.. one uses a bunch of power, the other releases carbon.

Charging a BEV is easy. Tanking high preassure hydrogen is complicated. And when it comes to range the low efficency of a hydrogen combustion engine will make it impractical for smaller cars since the hydrogen tanks will need too much space to get a decent range.

Regarding range and space, Toyota's engineers are working on innovative solutions to make hydrogen tanks more compact and efficient. It's also worth noting that hydrogen-powered vehicles can be a viable option for larger vehicles and long-distance travel, offering quick refueling times compared to BEVs. Ultimately, both technologies have their pros and cons, and it's exciting to see how they will develop to meet different needs in the automotive market.

@@MysticCosmicInsights Making hydrogen tanks more compact is limited by the laws of physics. And the shape has to be adapted to the extreme pressure, which means they had to be cylindrical. The other option is to use liquid hydrogen, like they have done in their race car. But that will not work for a normal car since the hydrogen has to be stored at -252 deg C, and will evaporate and be lost if the car is not used for a while. There is no easy fix for the storage problem of hydrogen.
