America fucks me off. I moved to the country mainly for my wife but also because of my love of firearms but upon moving, I didn't realize my love of JDM cars would be throttled and ruined. Why the hell are most of these import banned?! I don't get it. They say emissions but you guys drive fucking huge V8 trucks and shit. It makes no sense.

The Toyota Chaser is a wolf in a sheep's clothing. Very underrated car. They are cheaper too compare to Civic or Integra Type R , Evolution, Skylines and Rx7. I'm glad that I live in Canada where I have seen several because Canada only requires a car to be 15 yrs old unlike USA which is 25 yrs old

Americans have that type of car on the market, it's called Cressida. Of course, that Chaser is 2 gen's newer, but still, they all had JZ and 7M engines on JDM market, as well as Supra.

A jzx100 is and has my dream car from the age of about 8. Good thing I live in Ireland and can actually import one 😂

Heck, Toyota should just go and offer a TRD Camry stateside. The V6 SE already rates at 268HP, and that's without any boost. Probably wouldn't hurt to add another 100HP to that and tighten up the handling. However if there's a factory backed tuning package for it, it'd be nice if it was on the more subtle side. I think the only reason they don't do this is it would eat into some of the Lexus sales.

Thanks for profiling this car! My favorite is a '95 Cresta (JZX90) and the JZX100 variant, so it's cool seeing it's sister in the limelight! I love the JZ engines but the 1JZ sounds a lot smoother to me compared to the 2JZ. Both are bonkers and great engines! Haha I wish I kept my first car, a MA70 Supra and swapped a JZ engine in it! Now I'm looking for a Cressida, IS300, or a GS300 to make into a makeshift JZX until I can import one! If you love Four doors, especially Toyota ones, we need to be friends.

I have a JZX100 Chaser, and love it - on the weighbridge when I got it registered, it was weighed as 1470KG (3240LB), so actually lighter than a JZA80 turbo. I have since put lighter wheels/tyres and done a trans conversion to manual removing another 20KG, so it's really not all that heavy for it's size

I wouldn't exactly say a Chaser is a "Supra", although it does share the same motor, the car's heavier, geared differently and completely different suspension. Not to say its not a awesome car. It's just not a Supra because it shares the same motor.

To me jzx100's are cooler than any supra

JDM isn't the only big car scene here in nz, there is also a huge European car scene, i.e BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, Lambo, Ferrari, ect

Why is the Toyota Chaser so popular in Russia?

It's seriously about damn time someone documents this for americans that dont know about this car. The JZX platform is one of the most baller family of cars ever made. Toyota, Of Course.

I know alot about this car and I dream to own one. But the problem is, that in my country it is almost impossible. But I have Lexus IS200. The thing is, that Lexus IS200 was sold as Toyota Altezza in JP. So Is200 = Altezza. And while they were building Altezza they used almost the same parts like they used in Chaser or Mark II. So it means, that 1JZ-GTE fits perfectly into IS200. It means, that if I can't own one on theese here, then I am going to put 1JZGTE inside of my IS200! Gonna be worth it..

The important thing to mention is that there is a particular mod: TourerV. Any other chaser (like grande or somethin else) might have 1gfe\1jzge (which are NA versions). They don't have that fancy carbon trims, no LSD and different brakes (might be wrong bout that). Anyways, any markII, cresta or chaser containing TourerV in it's name will have 1jz-gte and a better suspension. Regards from Moscow.

YES! my very first car that I received from my father back in 2003 was a 1991 mazda 929s. truthfully, I thought the car was a p.o.s. and lamented having to be seen in it while my good friends were rolling around in mustangs, camaros and lifted trucks (I live in Texas). BUT! the car had something in it that absolutely nobody elses vehicle had (hmm, is that a good or a bad thing? lol) right to left oscillating A/C vents! a simple button labelled 'swing' was positioned on the center stack that turned the oscillating feature on and off. amazingly, that component worked flawlessly even past the day I had to say goodbye to the car due to the transmission biting the dust back in 2004. I've never seen it in any other car I've ever been in before or after. oh, memories...

I am very lucky as a petrolhead to live in nz cause if you want a particular car you can have that car due to no import laws and also the cops here really chill so you don't get defected for bov like in Australia and it is like only place in world where you see v8s, jdm and euros at the same meets/events.

i miss my 96 chaser Tourer V. that was a beasty car. mine was tuned and sounded like a indy car. use to race from Nago to Naha every weekend in Okinawa.

I love my chaser. Sure, it's a relatively stock auto, but it is still a buttload of fun to drive, and blends into the masses reasonably well too :P

FYI Matt, the oscillating vents was an option in the 01+ LS430.

not trying to nit-pick but rather educate, the swinging air vents did come in Lexus cars. the 01-06 LS430 Ultra Luxury model got them. probably some more as well, but i know those for sure.

I have had the pleasure of driving a few Chasers in my life and they are one of my favorite cars. Very easy to drift too!
