Sure, you should do it if you can. In my opinion atmospheric engine era has passed. Toyota sells old technology to countries like ours. I see 9-10 liters during city drive on my dashboard of 2012 model year mercedes E250 with 204hp 1700kg and heavy tranny connected to rear wheels. Toyota's 1.6 and 1.5 engines are really outdated in 2022. Also 1.8 engine in hybrids too. But with electric engine they are still economical. I strongly suggest to move on hybrid version.

Like the ones on Renault Clio and VW Polo and such, do you think they're good economy wise? And are they reliable? Do you suggest getting a car with said engines rather than a 1.6 TDI for example?

@@johnloi4939 I prefer new petrol engines with compressed gasoline injection and turbo charged (CGI, TSI, puretech, ecoboost etc) rather than diesel anymore. Since higher fuel economy with higher torque output in lower rpm bands, you would not miss diesel engines. Btw, if you want car specific suggestion, I would not prefer clio because of its CVT gearbox which cuts higher torque advantage, or I would not go for polo, ibiza etc (vag cars) since final gear is shorter for highway usages. This is about what would you expect from a car with a downsized engine, if would drive it only in city traffic it is ok. But if you would use it sometimes in highway, it is better to go for corsa, 208 etc which give you an extra 8th gear for highway usages. I also have a corsa 1.2 100hp version, in 8th gear with 2000rpm, I see 110 km/h on dashboard and around 4.7 liters consumption. You would see 92 km/h in 7th gear of DSG with 2000 rpm in vag cars which will result increased engine sound and consumption if you want to go with 110kmh on highways. Anyway if we go back to the main question, my personal opinion is downsized engines proved theirselves and they deserve the chance.

@@teknik562 with 1.8 litre gasoline on the highway at 120km an hour I can do 5.5 litres per 100km and then on back roads going 80km an hr I can easily do 5 litre per 100km.

@@arway001 a 2.0 turbo inline 4 330e has 292hp combined, 184 of that comes the petrol engine. not so bad is it? the 1.8 *naturally aspirated* engine with an Atkinson cycle design, it cuts power for fuel efficiency by delaying the closing of the suction valve until the piston completes 20% to 30% of the upstroke during the compression stroke. the 2.0 Corolla hybrid has 184hp *(combined)* and has a 6.9 second time. Stop being a typical American and assuming 4 cylinders are slow no matter what.
