Hey man, your vid is one of only a few that don’t ramble for 16:00 about something as ez as an oil & filter change. I appreciate that you were straight to the point, Found this vid cuz I was looking for the capacity ratings, stayed for the simplified explanation. Hopefully this helps folks who own a 9th gen and are maybe new to cars but want to DIY.

Cool. You can use a 1qt oil bottle with the bottom cut off and screw it into the filler as a sealed funnel to help prevent spillage (mine is an old M1 bottle). I have a 2006 Matrix (Corolla wagon) with 207,000 miles.

Thanks for your video. Is it a must to replace the oil filter every when we change engine oil? if not when we do it?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Год назад
Hi Huy! While I have seen cases where only the oil is changed, I usually don't recommend this unless say the oil is being changed at half the interval length of the oil filter. For example (not real numbers) If I did my oil changes at 6K miles (both oil and filter) but I wanted to only change oil, then I would do the oil change at 3K miles (leaving filter) then at 6K oil change and filter. This way I won't exceed the filters life. However imo, with the low cost of the oil filter I always swap both (the car is already up) may as well change the filter. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Great video! Simple and straightforward. How many mileage should i change oil, 5000 or 10000 miles?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 года назад
Thanks James! a regarding the intervals, I would recommend you stay with the interval recommended by your owners manual. With conventional oil people usually do them between 3-5K and with full synthetic, people usually do those between 5k-10K. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Oil filter anti clockwise open not a clockwise & engine oil capacity 4.20 litre (4.4 quarts) not a 3.7l
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 3 года назад
Hi Avainash! correct as I stated on the video the filter is removed by turning counterclockwise. Regarding the oil fill capacity the service manual calls out for 3.7 liters (3.9 US qts) for a normal drain and refill oil change (with oil filter change). If the car is completely dry of oil (brand new engine at factory or rebuild engine, or other situation that completely left the engine and components dry of all oil then the service manual does call out for 4.2 liters (4.4 US qts) as you stated. Hope that makes sense bud and thanks for watching!

@@AlexAutoFun Perfect, and is I saw another comment of yours. Since my car is almost 20 years old. Is it not a good idea to use fully synthetic Oil? And just stick with Synthetic blend?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Год назад
@@Salman.khan786 Well there are some that say that you should stick with conventional oil on older cars and others that have made the jump to synthetic with no issue. I personally have switched my cars to fully synthetic (the Corolla on this video is 20 years old LOL) without issue. That being said, remember normally once you go synthetic is not recommended to go back to regular oil. There is also the possibility of new oil leaks with synthetic, however I have personally not experience this. So maybe you are right, maybe going to partially synthetic maybe the way to go. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Toyota some time back recommended 4.4 quarts along with a new issue dipstick part # 15301-12050. I just received mine. The full and minimum levels are higher on the new one when lined up with the original

@@AlexAutoFunI couldn’t find the TSB # but this effects the 03-05 Corollas. In models after the markings on the dipstick were moved up to reflect the recommended capacity change from 3.9 quarts to 4.4. The Toyota part # is 15301-22050

1, it's not an oil wrench. It's a strap wrench.* 2, Putting a little oil on the bolt is a good idea, the same way you lubricated the filter. 3, For such an old car, stick to conventional oil. * There are specific oil filter wrenches. However, it's not a bad idea to try it with the strap before. Strap wrenches are designed to handle things you generally don't want the slightest bend in (if something went wrong), which is generally for plumbing but would also be good for critical parts of cars too.
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 7 месяцев назад
Hi Curly Ah the listing calls it a oil filter wrench (link to it in the video description) but I have used the term strap wrench interchangeably before for it, maybe semantics or I could be wrong and there is only one correct term, as long as it does the job for me I'm good with it LOL! Regarding the bolt, I follow the service manual for the process (no mention of oiling the bolt) but still good info Curly, thanks for sharing, Cheers!

Any reason as to why you used full synthetic high mileage compared to conventional or synthetic blend or regular full synthetic non high mileage?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 года назад
Hi Ludoviko! I had good results switching my cars to full synthetic. However it's normally recommended if switching over to do it early on the life of the car, as doing it later can cause leaks. But be aware that it's not recommend to go back to conventional once you go to full synthetic, kind of a one way trip. The reason I use HM oils on my older cars is that it seems to help to reduce oil leaks and the high ZDDP content appears to be beneficial to older engines. However the choice of oil seems to be a personal preference too, I know some mechanics refuse to use HM oil since it can swell old rubber seals (to stop leaks) and prefer to fix/replace the gasket leaking and run non HM oil instead of using HM oil to address the issue (which makes sense but like I said I think there is an element of personal choice here). Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

@AlexAutoFun

Hi! Some people do recommend to prefill (prime) the oil filter to avoid media shock, however since the service manual doesn't call for this, I don't since I usually just stick to the service manual instructions. Cheers!
