The shift actuator on the transfer case is the issue with the front not engaging. It has a fail safe system; is closed loop, undiagnosable with anything. Same with my taco. Pop it out install a new one, probably got water from crack vent tubes, lengthen them and raise the vent higher.
Make more money of course smh why don't people understand its all about the dollar money in labor and parts to repair it bs it lasting forever no brainer
So stupid people don't have to move their arm and can just press a button instead. But then it breaks and we have to spend $500 in time parts and labor so lazy people don't have to interact with something manually.
Great job! Question: why did it seem like the front wheels were rotating slower than the rear wheels. I suspect this is by design - but what its the rationale?
I don't know why but something I think is wrong. My 1999 Tacoma I have owned since new vibrated when it was relatively new because I left it in 4x4 on a hard top road. I realized I was in 4x4 and placed it in 4x2. When I got my oil changed later I asked them to lift it and see if the 4x4 still worked. It did but from memory they were spinning the same speed. Hope fully Peter will answer you question. Great question.
The left front was not rotating the same speed because it’s a floating differential. If you noticed the right front wheel was keeping the speed of the rear wheels. Think of it as if the right front wheel was losing traction, and the left front wheel was not losing. That’s why the right front was spinning faster than the left front wheel.
I replaced this part and fixed my problem, but new part has a short breather pipe and a bung in it , seems to be glued on. Is this a new mod and how it should be, or does it need to be pulled off and put on old breather???
Do you think you could advise me where to start.. I recently acquired a 1991 land cruiser. It’s stuck in center diff lock. Light is on in dash and won’t go off from toggling the button or from placing transfer case from high to low and back. Please help
I have a 2010 CrewMax Platinum Tundra with code: C1340, which my code reader says it's the Center Differential Lock Circuit. My 4WHi/4WLo dont work at all. Any idea what the part# is?
Hi. Good information. I went a step too far and opened the ADD. Parts are cleaned BUT require assistance retiming the unit. Any possibility of providing information or a link. Cheers. Frank
Boss when it gets to this point is when they ship it to 3rd world country’s where it will be put the most torture it’s ever received amd last another 10 years with the same tires and zero maintenance
Is it best to replace and add new Differential fluid when replacing the front actuator. And when replacing the actuator do you have the 4runner in 4H or 4 wheel drive off?
In the first video Petr showed the computer codes, I remember a front wheel speed sensor, a rear wheel speed sensor, one or two O2 sensors, plus tires, dangling taillight wires, plus a little more - really not that bad to fix, it would take a do-it-yourselfer about a full day in his driveway..
Hi, I've been watching your videos and learning a lot from them. I figured out the problem with the 4 wheel drive of my 1999 Toyota 4runner - the 4wheel drive works and everything but, the 4wheel drive light flashes every time I start the vehicle. Do you have a suggestion of what is causing the lights to flash? Thank you in advance.
FIPG, very expensive. Good for you for using it. I see the old red silicone, maybe someone was in there before? 7:26 driver is a fan of the fancy mexican music? haha.
I believe that my 4H works, but when I put mine in 4L then I get a constant beeping. Someone said to engage it then disengage it a few times and it should free up, but no luck. What should I do next? Thanks and another great video!
So that's not diff lock it just engages 4x4??? My hilux has this and I thought it was electronic diff lock, my Pathfinder locks 4x4 in the transfer case, I don't see the point.? Why not just use the transfer case like every other 4x4 I've worked on
I too noticed the speed difference between front and rear wheels and found that a bit strange. I have not been wrenchin on Toyotas, only LR's and they have 50/50 atleast my Lr3 does Anyways, good video Peter, but perhaps you could show us a bit more og how you do your repairs, like Eric O over at South Main Auto does.. Just a thought
@@pellethoresen4025 it has a Torsen transfer case. The transfer case distributes torque 40/60 in a straight line with no resistance. This changes in turns or with a slipping wheel or axle.
I was going to say that too. I thought maybe only one rear wheel was turning which would make the other rear wheel spin at twice it’s normal speed, but both rear wheels were spinning fast and both front wheels were slow. I don’t know.
Probably just the center diff not spinning evenly because I’m of the different resistances between how smooth the rear diff is able to turn from the front
Great explanation but this design is nonsense. I would much rather have a bullet proof mechanical engagement shifter as part of my console in the interior. But Toyota (and others) like to add electronics to as many things as possible (even water [coolant] pumps) now apparently on some models.
