Are Toyota Hiluxes as durable as Top Gear says they are? I get into some car wrecks, pull 30,000lbs uphill in 769th gear, and perform a few more mild tests. #hilux
The folding hood IS a sign of quality. The hood has to buckle in an accident so that it doesn't decapitate the occupants. Folding is engineered into it.
The hood is designed to fold in the middle in case an accident to shield the windshield from other incoming objects. It is a safety feature :) So the folding hood is working perfectly. @10:00.
@@alsusmedia No. Do you know why folded steel was revolutionary? Think about when you fold paper how much stronger it gets. What do you think would be better one or two layers of metal?
And that’s saying something considering Top Gear tried destroying it by placing it on a 250 ft. building, destroying said building and the one next to it, and it still works.
Top of that, the one flaw he thought he found wasnt. 10:00 no he didnt the fold hood w one hand. The steel support ridges were snapped by that head-on tree accident first (you can see it in profile)
I was scared watching the first test because I was cringing at all the abuse he was putting it through but really impressed that it made it out alive this video I have so much more confidence that I'm not scared one bit, yet still really impressed
The weight of the f450 was almost zero because it was on the rear axles, and the f450 takes away a part of the front tipping caused by the John Deere because of its weight. But yeah ok.
the hood is designed to fold in half like that in case of a crash. you don’t want a sheet of steel cutting you in half durring an 80mph crash. thats why they always fold perfectley straight.
I flipped my 07 Tacoma a few years ago. It fired right up and sold on Copart for $7500. That truck in current condition would still be worth at least $69,000 if you say "I know what I have" in the ad
@@reecemartin453 The 22R(E)'s are just as bad, but man, they can run on a tablespoon of oil and baby tears for 800K miles. lol. I kick myself in the ass every time I think about how I sold my 91' standard cab 4x4 that I restored.
@@narlycharley Yeah tuff as nails, but they're still slow as fuck, specially this version. A friend of mine has still has his '99 SR5 (same trim as the video), and yes it's indestructible, but has shit comfort, shit interior, shit speed. It's the same on all Hiluxes, I remember riding those brand new, they never changed lol
Such good content. Straight to the point and "real world tests" haha so great to see Whistlin Diesel testing quality products (Toyota enthusiast myself)
LOL, absolutely loved the intro, Cody is so casual after rolling it, everything is completely normal, nothing out of the ordinary to see here. I can only image the horror the the clutch and tranny are going through, and rocking it, not necessarily pretty looking but doing it!
Hilux is so crazy because it was massively overbuilt. Toyota made it as a loss leader to edge into the truck market. The looked at all the other trucks in their class, and purposefully went WAY over competitor's specs for the same price. and it worked! the Hilux (and its variants) were so legendary that the brand got overnight recognition and Toyota used that sell normal cars. that's why every other Toyota, including later model Hilux, Tacoma, and 4Runners are NOT this overbuilt.
Whistlin you make the best videos on youtube man keep up the great work and plus that flip at the beginning and just says hello and welcome haha that was the best part 😄
As much as I hate you destroying this perfectly perfect rare amazing super truck, I gotta give you props for uniqueness and sweet director creativity haha
@@andredziardziel4264 Toyota’s are actually really good trucks especially the 3.4L Tacomas and 4Runners super reliable easy to mod and can take a beating pretty well compared to a lot of newer vehicles
When we got to Afghanistan in 2002. We needed trucks. We bought a few Hilux. One was blown up and flipped completely upside-down. We put two new tires on it, rolled it over and drove it back to the jcop.
@@fs19clips48 did you watch the first vid? After overloading the bed and ripping it he talks about how incredible the truck is and how it's amazing it's performing so well.
You idiots can't understand this dude was making a joke of it looking like he had an erection after he rolled it. Wow. When these idiots hit 40 (older than me) you'll be the generation making decisions for everyone (it's called government). We are fucked.
Omfg, Tacoma is an american vehicle. NOT A HILUX! The Hilux is still being produced to this day and is the no 1 selling vehicle in Australia and has been for years. Only reason they don't sell them in America is because it would ruin all the competition. In saying that, todays Hilux's would definitey not hold up, too complex and fragile.
Dude, Hilux is still being produced. I dunno bout how tough the latest ones r but I've got a 2006 Vigo which is the domestic thai model nd that thing can run without oil or coolant. It's the toughest truck in Asia nd literally everyone uses it due to its durability. As a result the resale price is quite high.
OK, that is unbelievably impressive!! I have a modded TRD 4runner that, while I know it's capable, has no where near the guts this Hilux has! Toyota's are tough man. I want a diesel Hilux now!!! Thanks for such an entertaining video!
@@toy4runnerpiney And the soild front diff, robust large capacity 4cy diesel engine, fully boxed robust chassis, tough gear driven transfer case, simple leaf spring suspension, the same steering and driveline as 75 series landcruisers which are a much larger vehicle, and the fact that the hilux was a light weight truck. Nothing of which most modern vehicles have.
Him breaking this truck is the only reason im going to unsubscribe from him lol I have wanted one of these since I was a kid. In hawaii this thing would have went for like 10 grand oof :(
Honestly #1 made me unsubscribe, #2 has me back again. This is one of the best durability tests of the Hilux ever. I want to see him subject other trucks to the same test protocol.
Honestly impressed that I watched this for the third time. Also, not gonna lie, I'd love to edit for someone like you, even if I wasn't paid. I'd need to learn too so that would also help. Aside from that, I love your videos man.
There's a TV show called Top Gear here in UK. They did the same thing with a Toyota truck including insane stuff like dropping it from a building, setting fire to it, and leaving it in the sea all night - It still worked
@@MegaDysart both the 1KZ (3.0 diesel) and 2LT-E (2.4 diesel) crack heads after around 150k if not looked after, but they're relatively inexpensively replaced. The blocks themselves are pretty bomb proof.
My cousin had an 89 4x4 with a 22RE. Blew the rad out of it. It’d run until would lock up, he’d let it cool down and it’d fire back up and do the same thing again.
Kind of painful to watch but also makes me even happier to own one. My slowest vehicle but also my absolute favorite. Thanks for this crazy testing series!
@@StormQs. in Europe you can get a 90's Hilux in decent condition with the same trim as WD, around 10k. Finding one in mint condition as WD was...very hard to find, and I believe around 20k would be a price to see. Also this WD Hilux is an import, with right hand drive. For the USA market, would be preferable a left hand drive, European version with the 2.4D Diesel engine.
No one will ever question this truck again. I was literally taken back when this thing bounced through the mud with a pallet of bricks, then you loaded it with a gooseneck so heavy it bent the bed in and still didn’t budge. The real monstermax
I still cannot believe that thing went through the mud like that with that pallet in it. Find any other truck on earth that would do that... I ain't even gonna lie. If you actually cared for the thing at all it would last you the rest of your life, probably.
