I totally wish these were available in the USA, I really don't know why they aren't permitted. We had one in Panama, and it got the best fuel mileage, and ran for hundreds of thousands of kilometers before I sold it for a great price. Never had any issues, easy to drive and maintain, and just an all around awesome Toyota killed it with this rig!
@@davidl9687 They are not available here in USA but we have one in Panama and so do several friends, one uses his as a taxi and is about to turn 500k kilometers, never an issue even in the harsh and humid environment. The diesel engine runs flawless. I don't understand why they aren't available, these pickups get EXCELLENT fuel economy and quite powerful.

Tough as ever it may be but its as rough as a badger's arse. You sit low and bounce around. The cab is all black, which shows up all the dust and dirt. Most models have the terribly underwhelming 2.4 and the 2.8 is only available on Uber-expensive model. The Aisin six speed automatic is 10 years beyond its sell-by date and they should be using the available eight speed model to compete with Nissan's seven speed and Ford's ten speed automatics. Yes it holds its value well and its chassis side rails aren't full of holes in the wheel arch area to limit the chassis life through corrosion. Quite what the point is of advertising this pickup so much is, I'm at a loss to work out considering that a new order will not be delivered unto 2022 if ordered now in April 2021. Partly the reason why they didn't offer the 2.8 straight away was that it had a lot of DPF plugging issues, probably now sorted, even though it has long been available in the Land Cruiser 150 model. Anyone who buys these things new that isn't VAT registered and/or can make use of commercial vehicle tax relief need their heads examined. They are crude basic trucks and drive like it. Even the latest models. If you need to carry a ton [with minimum security from theft] or tow 2 tons plus or have a farm or are a civil engineer that can't afford a Defender or Land Cruiser, well this or the Ranger or one of the other rivals is for you. I can't see pickup trucks selling as well as indicated though, because we have already lost VW and Mercedes and Great Wall and by the end of the year we will no longer be able to buy a Nissan Navara or Mitsubishi L200 either. They are being withdrawn from the market with no replacement any time soon if ever.
My 8 year old Hilux was so badly corroded it had to be scrapped!!! That's something you'd expect from a 1983 mini Metro not the worlds most dependable truck. Forget all the Toyota stereotype bullshit, they make crap cars too, and the Hilux is one of them.
