My guy 37 mpg absolutely sucks after downsizing from a Corolla at such a day and age, Toyota be throttlin mpg ATM. Honda cranked out 50mpg highway with their 1989-95 civics but a Yaris 40 years later can pull any more than 37? On top of that, nobody ever saw actual improvements on fuel economy when the Atkinson cycle came out; petroleum companies are absolutely pulling some strings here.
My wife and I had a 2008 Yaris 4 door, we purchased it new and kept it for 10 years. Used it for long trips twice a year from Arizona to the Mid West and Deep South plus daily driving. Replaced the tires twice and battery once. We did nothing to it other than routine maintenance. Sold it in 2018 with over 104,000 miles on it and bought a new Toyota Camry XLE. The fellow we sold it to is still driving it daily. It was our 3rd. Toyota. I have owned 4 and kept them all for years and many miles with those kinds of results. El Mirage, Arizona
Mines 07 Yaris with 307k on it ...best 1500 $ dollars I ever spent ..2 years of driving it and it still runs like the day I bought it with 240k from original owner...I'm buying another one with 140k on it for 3500 cash
Scotty I tell you my Toyota story: My 2005 Echo(replaced by Yaris later years) served my family til today (2023) with only problem of front shocks leaked and I got them replaced. The original battery died on Dec-31-2018 and was replaced. No one believed this as this was a fairy tale that a car battery can last 13 yrs. But I know it is true as I replaced the battery myself and saw those Japanese wordings on the wall/top of the battery! I live in Canada so sub-zero(C) starting in winter is common. You are right the auto-transmission is lagging and far from zippy to drive but it didn't give me headaches like the Nissan Sentra before it! Thanks for bringing the news to us all these time!
I had a 2103 manual transmission Yaris with 100,000 miles. It had no problems and original brakes in perfect condition. I loved that car (I was 61 years old when I purchased it.) Unfortunately someone ran a stop sign and it was gone. I can not find a manual Yaris to replace it, but I'm still looking.
The owner of this Yaris is very smart! These quick, smaller cars are very popular in other countries. The mods that he did just make it that much nicer! You can really enjoy a car that handles that well and being standard shift, very cool!
I bought a base model yaris back in 2007 or 2008 that had a manual trans. It was fine for a daily commuter car, but it definitely wasn't sporty. I traded it in the spring of 2009 for a corolla that both me and my wife could drive (automatic). We're still driving the corolla.
I live in Denmark, and i have a yaris from 2015 with a staggering 1.0 engine producing 69 horsepower. Its my first car and i love it. it's definitely not fast, but it is reliable!
I replaced my worn out '92 Mitsubishi Galant with a used '07 Yaris last September. It had just under 200,000 when I bought it from Woodbridge Auto Auctions in Woodbridge, Virginia,. I drove my Mitsubishi from Tennessee up there ( I found the Yaris online) and traded in the Mitsubishi (they gave me $300 trade in on it) on the Yaris. I drove it home, and was amazed at how peppy it was! I followed a group of cars running fast, sometimes we were running 100, and I stayed right with them! I'm amazed by this car, and they were only asking $3900 for it! It has never been wrecked, had new brakes, tires and clutch, interior is in great shape, and the air is cold! And yes, it's a 5 speed. I absolutely love the car, it's really great! In five months it hasn't burned a drop of oil, and I drive it hard! I HIGHLY recommend this car if you want fun reliable transportation!
I bought a 2014 white Se yaris with 86000miles for 7500 cad. Best car ever owned. i blackout chrome and put a car rack on roof ... got new 16 inchj black mags... when i go buy parts ... guys in the store compliment it ... I bought it on marketplace cause my other car frame was rotted away ... After all, very happy my sonata died.
i have a Toyota Yaris 2021 but the dealer in Saudi Arabia is a piece of work! we dont have a steering wheel buttons and a cruise control forgot to mention its the top spec
but the cruise control is already in the computer all i need is the stick a couple of wires and the steering wheel buttons all from Ali Express, and a genuine clock spring from a parts dealer, should cost around 120usd
'09 Yaris 1.33 100hp with 170k km on it, still drives smoothly, only problem is that it uses some oil. Planning on doing oil changes Every 6 months to try to lessen the oil consumption.
I have a 1.0 SOL 1999 and 1.5 hybrid 2017 since new, 143 and 23 Kmls, only normal services. The hybrid has done 50 mls/g in 6 years, mostly short trimps and sometimes very harsh conditions during winter time.
Got a silver sedan in 2011 with 19k miles on it and now 170k miles ..just oil change and battery change and engine is still solid and drives really well.
Scotty, I'm waiting for the day you get your hands on a Toyota Aygo 1.0L, 3 cylinder engine with a 5 speed manual gearbox, but I don't think they sell them in the USA. They're very common and popular in the UK with lady drivers and they're very reliable. Hardly the fastest car in the world, but fun 😄
I own a 12 second car, had a AWD SLine Audi & have a modern 4WD & the car I miss the most in my auto Yaris; beautiful cheap to run reliable car. It’s was the best!
In Australia, normal Yaris has no manual transmission anymore. Except for the Yaris GR, my brother managed to buy one when they were released at AUD $40,000 drive away price, a great bargain as now they are worth >$50,000 AUD. There was 400 Yaris GR at that price and it was a pity that I didn't get one too, would have enjoyed it.
Had a Yaris 1.3 Litre , 86bhp , ac , electric windows , most basic stuff of confort , 2005 , the only problem was the rust that was everywhere . After went for a Daihatsu with the same engine , pretty brilliant cars .
22 years ago I bought a 89 Geo Metro XFI 3 cly 5 spd , for $150 . It now has 353,000 miles on it , drive it everyday, have gotten as high as 55 MPG . I also pull a trailer with it ,. Fun car and very dependable.. Insurance? $56 a month. Not a performance car but it'll get you there. Talk about peace of mind ,I leave it unlocked, windows opened and no one messes with it . 😄
Can’t beat toyota reliablity, bought a 94 80 series landcruiser with the na diesel with 400,000 for 1K$ and it starts straight away and drive great with no leaks
I bought a 2010 Yaris 4 door hatch. It needed some TLC and it runs so much better. It's fun to drive. It won't win a drag race but on the twisties, that's another story. I put loweing springs, new struts, TRD axelback, and cold air intake. NGK iridium spark plugs make a noticeable difference. I get about 30mpg. Took it to 3 autocross events. Has 186,000 miles! I've owned some nice and fast cars, but the Yaris is my new favorite car.
Hello scotty kilmer i am from holland and a toyota yaris owner great car! (if you do not need speed!) releable a real toyota! nice video s you are doing great work ! LIVE FRee Ore Die!
I bought a new Yaris in 2009 and it has been great. The only thing i did so far to it other than routine maintenance is to replace the front brakes pads
2400 lbs, 5 spd, almost 40 mpg, not bad looking all checks boxes for me but 0-60 9.4 secs with 5 spd? Acceleration is important to me not because I'm immature and aggressive, but because it's needed in traffic for various practical reasons. That is unless you like being stopped at every yellow light, being cut off and run over in traffic, not being able to pass at reasonable speed, etc. So no thanks! I'll keep my Mustang.
I have a 2011 Yaris RS 1.5 lit with sports tuned suspension, low profile tyres, paddle shift, Tiptronic 7 speed auto. Economical, comfortable and good road holding.
Got a 07 sedan over a year ago myself. Other than tires brakes rear shocks a belt and little rust and a rear axle beam/ subframe that needs replacing... it's been a good little car. Did most of the work myself and easy to do oil changes you dont even need a jack. Great on gas and hasn't burned a drop of oil in the 20k miles that I've owned it. 112k on it now came with a remote starter too 👍 Recently ordered the rear subframe new for $577 so not too too bad hoping to push push to 300k 😆
My Yaris has just failed 133k on the clock. 2007 model. I bought for £4500 about 11 years ago. I've spent about the same to keep it on the road with tyre and brake changes, a corroded arm, exhausts etc. The back axle has just cracked so it will cost more to fix than to buy a similar example. I was hoping to run for longer; the engine is still good. It's the corrosion after 17 years that did it in. I never really loved the car. It's well built and has a functional interior and drove well. I got my armchair and footstool in it one time, i.e. plenty of space inside. I fancy something else this time round.
I've been looking for a well priced used one for a while. By looking at the car fax maintenance history I see many new cars were treated with 10k mile oil changes... very disappointing.
I understand, because 0W20 is much more expensive than others, mine i got recently has 90,000m most service stamps shows 15,000m! But i'm now using 5W20 Castrol Magnatec not 0W20,my car is still v.quiet but im sticking with Magnatec from now on.
I have a 2012 yaris SE with around 120000 I have had zero issues with it until a couple months ago when it started to have a rough idle problem. Took to mechanic and they could find nothing wrong with it. Had engine mounts replace due to being worn out thinking that would solve it but it still has the same problem unfortunately.
I have a 3 cilinder 2010 yaris 2. It does eat some oil. Not a quart every 600 miles though. When I keep it on at 80mph at 5000 rpm it's when it eats the most.
Got a scion xa 2005 with 89,000 miles on it. Got the same engine and trans as this Yaris. Might hold on to it a while and save big $$$ on gas an maintenance
Jeez my brother had a manual yaris with a 1.5L it was a 2007 and he would beat it so much he would have it hitting 6500rpm shifting and it still ran my grandma has one to she takes so good care of it god it takes corners like a champ
because of the ridiculis taxes and VAT and so on, people here have less money to spend, so nowadays we can only afford small cars like the Yaris or the Fiat 500. More expensive cars are company cars mostly
Damm u guys giving me hope I put alot of miles in since the three years I owned this absolutely love thus car with I knew about this before and I could havd bought more part of the reason I fell in love with toyota again
I'm from the UK,the only Yaris built/made in Japan is the Sport, the rest are made in France & that includes the MK1 Yaris. A few small details are different like the rear wiper on the MK1 is slightly different.
I still have my 94 Toyota 4WD pickup. Starts right up and runs great even on the highway. I replaced the timing chain in 2003 and an alternator belt in 2007. Other than that, I've only spent money on routine brakes and oil changes. Bought it almost 29 years ago.
Man that's impressive. I have a 2004 tundra 2wd SR5 and it's been a good truck. I had the timing belt changed a few thousand miles ago. I don't drive it that much because of the gas mileage, I drive my Corolla. My truck has 134,000 miles on it.
Mk2 models all leak oil one way Or another Mk1(which i have) is amazingly reliable Mk3 & 4 are not old enough yet to tell but I'm sure they're super reliable as well.
The Yaris has been about in Europe for over twenty years in on shape or another, and they are brilliant. They have strong, reliable, dependable mechanicals with good fuel economy, magnificent build quality and ease of service. Most of the European cars will be manual (or stick shift) transmission and are driven by people of all ages from driving instructors to seniors and as a used buy, they are always well looked after well maintained.
It's cars like these plus the Mazda 2 and Suzuki Swift that we should be promoting, Cars that sip fuel, can easily be driven in towns or on long journeys and are reliable. The average car has one or two occupants most of the time. Sure there are big families and drivers that actually need big cars but most households should have one of these as an alternative.
@@scooterbob4432 - I suspect a big part of it is that most driving schools now only teach in automatic cars. I'm a perfect example: Not once was I taught to drive a manual transmission, and as an adult it has never come up because of how common automatics are. I understand how it works, but you wouldn't want me in your car the first time I try manual shifting.
Bought my 07 3 door hatch new for $10,000. Has 220000 on it now and aside from basic maintenance the only problem it ever had was a sticky brake caliper. Reliability Durability Economy the Yaris cannot be beat.
I have a 2006 Scion Xa that also came with the 1NZ-FE engine, and it's a 5-spd. It's very similar to the Yaris lol. Love the thing. Every time I think about trading it in for something else I'm reminded how good it has been to me so I don't.
Scotty might be as well admit he is a paid spokesman for Toyota. Just saying. FYI. Toyotas are still great cars. Sadly they are out of the price range as an affordable vehicle for the Average Middle Class Customer. Speaking as a former Toyota Owner.
@@oreally8605 Most women including her ( most likely ) don't know chit about cars or trucks. She'll drive what scotty tells her to or she'll be walking. 😛😛😛
I have the yaris and the honda fit......bought the fit brand new....the yaris was an x rental car.....guess which one has NEVER been in for a repair? The yaris is so reliable nothing has ever needed repaired.....the honda while still a good car has had a few trips to the shop for repairs ! bothe cars have around 80 k miles I sold the honda and kept the YARIS!
My wife got the 2000 model Yaris with a 1.0 manual 5fwd transmission. She has it 18 years doing 293k and going strong. It's small, zippy and runs like a thief as we say in my country🇹🇹
I know a man in his 70's who still has every car he's ever owned. I've never seen the collection but, judging from all the other old junk in his holiday home in Whistler, I believe him. I'm his cleaner. He decided to get rid of some of his old junk and asked me if I wanted any of his old electronics. Jeez, the remote control was the size of a shoe box. No thanks.
I had a '96 Toyota Tercel and it was my favorite car ever. Everything was manual and mechanical (even down the the rack-and-pinion steering which gave me a workout in any parking lot). Super reliable and fun to hoon. It had about 300k miles on it before I basically gave it away to a friend who basically trashed it.
The first generation of Yaris was my favorite. The cup holders were under the vents and would keep your drinks cold/warm. Plus they got better MPG. The manual got the best but the automatic was right behind it.
Auto wasn't junk, just wasn't very good for performance. When cold didn't want to shift into final gear till warmed up. Never had an issue with the automatic either.
I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris LE and just passed 200k miles have had it for 8 years now and haven’t done any major repairs. No complaints about this car whatsoever
oh ya, I have a 2005 Honda CRV with 115k miles on it , no major repairs, heck, no repairs at all other than changing the rear wheel differential oil and break pads, and oil change every 3-5 k miles. Great car also. No compute crap!
Had a 2012 Yaris Sedan and I loved it, gave it to my nephew and got myself a 2012 Corolla , wonderful car, it was an automatic and really did pick up speed nicely- miss her.
I had a two door Yaris, I should have kept the damn thing! You can get a sheet of plywood in that thing! It was a hoot to drive! And roomy, I had the manual transmission... Kicking myself!
Michael I had an 09, 2 door, 5 speed. And you know what, you are right, it was fun to drive. It wasn't a rocket ship but it was good enough, handled well and drove really nice overall
My friends rental car business had fleets of these & they held up really well & lasted far longer than most domestic vehicles & years longer than other cheap imports such as Nissan sentra & versa ,& definitely anything Hyundai/KIA
Great video. I bought a 2012 Yaris hatch brand new and traded it in on a 2017 hatch when I learned they Yaris was being discontinued in the U.S. market. It's got a 5-spd manual and gets about 45mpg in the summer. I wish they still made these tiny cars in the U.S.
