As part of my 4.2t GVM Upgrade for the Cruiser I installed a great mod PJ's Off Road created for the Toyota Landcruiser 70, 80 and 100 Series. By default the Landcruiser wheels are driven by the axle going into the hub flange which is then secured by 6 bolts, this means all drive goes through the six bolts. PJ's Off Road now splines the flange and then heat treats it which means the wheel is not driven through the bolts only but also through the splined hub flange which provides additional strength and reliability especially for heavy Touring Landcruiser which do a lot of heavy corrugated roads. I also upgraded my rear Axles to 300M heat treated axles which is the strongest Axle material you can get.

I like your philosophy of paying for the best upfront. It always saves money and stress down the track.

Nice work! I've always wondered why Toyota sourced the axles/hubs from remote control toy cars for their heaviest vehicles & thought there was no upgrades available beyond total axle replacements, this will definitely resolve that issue.

yes that's what I thought and went for it

looks like a solid axle that spline depth on the diff end is massive. I just got my Hy Tuff maxi drive rear axle for my Disco nice having that peace of mind your not going to break one.
@AlloffroadAu

Yes sure is, hate breaking stuff in the bush so prevention is everything

looks like a worthwhile upgrade, i have broken several rear axles and studs in the past and very interested to see how they go. i already have the front axles and cv's in 300m and not a drama in the front for the past 5 years, time to do the rears i guess. thanks mate !
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu 6 лет назад
any issues with CV's, I heard 300M CV's won't give you longevity which does not really make sense to me
@itlldoo6128
@itlldoo6128 6 лет назад
not as yet ! and i really use them too
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu 6 лет назад
that's good it's one thing I haven't done yet. It never really made sense why 300M CV's would not have same or longer longevity then stock.

do the new hubs come with 12mm studs or the standard 10mm?

Transmission always breaks at the weakest point. Stronger 300 m axles means that rear differential is "bottle necked" now or its not?
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu 6 лет назад
No mater what you strengthen you alway move the point of failure higher up the chain but the way I drive I should never break my rear diff
@zoezoe610

That is a great upgrade. I have watched many drilling out studs and breaking studs in the bush. A poor design putting all that pressure on the axle studs.

Yes agree hence I thought it’s a good upgrade

Smoked in what way? No way you broke them on 37s. They should last at least 50k miles.

It's still ok, but getting a little worn now, and replacements will be hard.

You don't mind spending the money on upgrades , because you go to some very remote places ,good for you .
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu 6 лет назад
Yep rather build strong from the beginning and minimise failure chance in remote regions

fair call you always move the point of failure higher up the chain, however, I'm quite confident that I will not break anything higher up the chain. This is no comp vehicle and I drive with mechanical sympathy the axles were required for the 4.2t GVM upgrade
