It would have been nice to see the present console disassembled. I intend to do an IN Dash Mount in a MK X in Okinawa or possibly mainland Japan and wanted to see any HOT / Ground Power Wires internally in order to do an in dash - direct Wiring job on a Yaesu FT-891 w/ATAS120a Vertical. I quit Minds Want to Know. I especially enjoyed your preferred method of temporary parts storage during temporary disassembly phase

The air con settings shouldn't be working through the factory head unit to my knowledge? It should operate individually so you shouldn't have to worry about that if you change the head unit.. but that's for the GRX120 & 121 models..
Hi awesome vid Ive got the exact same problem as you in my mark x head unit keeps cutting in an out what did u do to fix it from cutting out periodicly
Either your connections are bad/loose or the wires somewhere (most likely in the tube connected in-between your door and frame of the car) are bent to the point where they're almost broken and everytime the car shakes the separated wires touch or disconnect causing your cut outs.. maybe??
Hey mate pretty keen on a Mark X, but what I've noticed is that lots of them have those full blown Japanese navigation units and it looks like some of the car functions (e.g. air conditioning) are controlled by them. Would you lose any functionality or encounter issues if you replaced it with a basic head unit? Or could you just slap a double DIN head unit in that little coin tray area you pulled out first and run both the head unit + original navigation system in parallel (head unit for music, navigation and misc. functionality on the original navigation unit)?
You could do either or! Thankfully that navigation unit only controls the usual stereo functions and the built in navigation unit installed in the factory head unit! You can just do a straight up plug and play and you'll be good to go! Of course you can rewire the reverse camera into the next head unit or leave it unwired as I have done.. The more premium models have the navigation mounted up top and the stereo mounted down bottom as you have suggested however, I chose to keep the lower part empty so I can hide the cigarette socket charger and other things..
@@fortzero2987 Oh yup true, sweet! Yeah just watched your walk-around video, good stuff. I think I'll pull the bottom tray out and throw a unit in there + translate the Japanese on the nav, we'll see! Test drove a 3L version and that went pretty good. Reckon the power difference between that and your 2.5L is noticeable or not really? And how have you found reliability as a whole? Like you said in the other video, lots of the documentation isn't in English so can be kinda hard to gage (plus those in English are post likely referring to the international FE versions of the engines, not the JDM FSE ones...
@@bazza5675 Let me know how you go! Naa i don't think you'd notice much difference? But in saying that, my friend has a 3L version and it has a lot more torque so I guess you'd notice some more pull off the line?? I would say they are quite reliable.. my alternator has died three times now but I'm not sure if that speaks for the cars' reliability? The only thing that concerns me is how hot the entire engine bay gets.. I've driven many cars but I've never come across any car that gets insanely hot like the Mark X does.. even under normal driving conditions it still gets very hot.. but the temp gauge is always showing that the temperature is fine.. just something to consider..
@@fortzero2987 Okay cool! Yeah tbh I'm probably just gonna use it for cruising and doing some basic VIP stuff, so will have to work out if that extra torque is worth a few thousand bucks. Interesting about the engine being hot though. Surely there's some mods to keep the engine cool?
@@bazza5675 Sorry for the late reply! Only quick fix I can think of to keep the engine bay cool is to wrap the headers up but I can't be bothered doing it hahaha
I wouldn't have a clue sorry! However i do know that some parts of both cars are interchangeable with each other so it wouldn't surprise me if it did fit!
@@fortzero2987 new head deck cos I still have original and noone can seem to replace it for me and I don't know where to find one. Also thinking of manual conversion but not sure if worth. I've done springs rims exhaust and sounds atm
@@dnfacts9000 Ah you must be referring to the front lip? Looks like a full bumper though! It came on my car but you can get them from some Japanese websites online.. Otherwise they aren't too easy to find outside of Japan for a reasonable price unfortunately..
