I just performed the Tensioner replacement on my MR2 a few hours ago, and it went super easily, thanks to your guide! I had issues keeping the vice-grips attached to the socket, though. Because the bolt is hex -shaped, I just vice-gripped directly onto two opposing flats, and it worked really easily.
They are indeed, as i have learned the hard way. I did a decat video too, it was hard work. When i stumble on a cheap silver or black hard too, i may be tempted
Your videos are great Andrew, easy to follow steps, I assume your doing all this under preventive maintainance and not because all these things are faulty, well apart from the Rad leak you had. I'll be using your videos when I start preventive maintainance on mine soon :)
Exactly right. Except for the radiator the car would still be drivable today if i did nothing. That said the oil tensioner seal was leaking about 1litre a month , definitely worth doing
Just recently changed mine, installed it back correctly and heard the click. But my timing chain has a bit of rattle noise now. Tried reinstalling it again heard the click but still the same. Do i need a new timing tensioner?. Does this things wear?
Replaced mine a few months ago cause there was oil leaking dripping down to the ground. Just changed my oil the other day for maintenance and I noticed a small leak that looks like it’s coming from the same place. You think I should replace the o-ring or the entire tensioner part? I have a 2000 with about 70k miles on it btw.
