I fixed that exact same problem on my old man’s 1999 Tacoma (176k) Amazon had the Aisin-marked part at a discounted price of $19 because it was an “open-box” item or something and arrived in 2 days. OEM forever!
Nice diagnosis! I loved my 97 Tacoma. Had 225k on it when it was bought back by Toyota for frame recall. Got a large check for my "loss". I now have an 06 tundra Dbl Cab SR5 and love it too! I do miss that 97 though! Nothing wrong with it but the frame!
Yes I enjoyed this video. I have zero confidence that any local shop in my area could carry out this type of diagnosis. We need to somehow duplicate or clone you and ship you all around the country so everyone can have good running Toyota's!
I deleted my egr on my 2rz. I just soldered a 10k resistor on the temp sensor wire after cutting it. Made a blockoff plate on the intake manifold. Threw away all the egr components. While i was at it, i also bypassed the coolant lines on the throttle body. Connected the hose from the hard lines together. No check engine light.
@DAKYOF if you delete it and have no check engine light with out chipping the ecu, will it still not pass? I'm having this problem I've cleaned the valve and replaced sensors and still get check light. I'm in Cali too. Any advice would be nice. Thanks in advance.
You will need an scanner and confirmed that all the sensors are set to be smoged check if you just delete the EGR valve but the ECU won’t read it and that is enough to fail, not even try or waist your money to fail the smog.
@@Nick41622 it makes sense, I will do that too after inspection but the problem is when we have the smog check inspection here in California is every 2 years. I am struggling to diagnose my code. This video is very helpful I already on the process.
Those were the days when they still used vacuum lines to control pollution components. Today it is all electronic computer controlled, and way more complex. Of course, the government is trying to make ICE cars & trucks so incredibly complex, that they become rolling nightmares which will cost thousands of dollars to repair at dealers, so as to force people away from ICE vehicles, and into pure electric cars & trucks. Be aware that several studies have found that electricity demand from the coming AI computer server center boom, combined with the additional electricity demand from charging millions of electric cars, will require trillions of dollars in utility grid upgrading. So you will soon be paying more for electricity - a lot more. All while the USA is exporting supertankers of crude oil to foreign countries, along with shipload after shipload of liquefied natural gas. You think burning all that fuel abroad pollutes the air? Maybe since the billionaires who control that industry make enormous political contributions, it's okay. The more oil and gas we export, the faster it runs out here. Ever think about that?
