Thank you! Thank you! We’ve been trying to figure out how to keep the doors from unlocking when we shift to park. I really appreciate you making this video.
I've had my first Camry for less than 2 months and I couldn't figure out why it would unlock all the doors when I shifted into Park? I'd already set for only the driver's door to open, but this one was a challenge. A big Thank You for all the helpful tips!
Thank goodness for this video too! Everytime I pull into carpool to pick up my daughter from school, and put the minivan into park, it kept waking my infant up from her nap (not fun at all!😢😢). This is a lifesaver now!
a million thanks for this Steven. This one had us beat! - Who would have thought these settings would be in the radio. Toyota have some funny ideas. Our UK menu is a bit different from yours but your advice is good and easy to understand. Greetings from Scotland
thank you!! I'm renting a Corolla right now and I'm a delivery driver so every time I plug to an order and put my car in park all the doors unlock and I don't want somebody to hop in my car when I'm trying to sell them something and end up robbing me or something like that so thank you for keeping me safe !!!!! had no idea would be in the radio of all things I figured it would be in the display area next to the speedometer. thanks again !
Dear Steve, I find your videos extremely useful and are very educational, especially for us "Owners Manual" lovers! I own a '07 Toyota Corolla Axio (X) which has a 5-speed manual transmission and is fitted with a factory radio model no. NDDN W57. It is possible to program automatic door locking when I start driving, say , 20 kmph and unlock when I turn the ignition to OFF? I have been searching for an answer everywhere but to no avail. Hopes soared when I started watching your videos 😊
Thank you, I am so happy I found your video. I work at night and am afraid of someone jumping in car when I go to pump gas or park in parking structure. Thank you again.
Thank you for all you help, We have a 2022 Highlander and with you tips we have not had to open the owners manual. every question we had you had the answers we needed.
Thank you! I have gone through my owners manual page by page and could not find how to make it stop unlocking all the doors when I shift to park! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Question about new navigation software for prius 2013. In the older version of prius 2 the navigation software had also new car software on board. Is that still the case with the prius 2010-2015?
Not sure it could cause them to get hotter so i could see the arguement that it would. keep in mind if it did then it would usually only do it on the modified parts
Hi I need more information about 2 things one mirror heater button and #2 how to get the screen bigger or how to remove icons from screen to make it bigger on 2021 highlander hybrid limited 12inch screen thanks you the best I always watch your videos thanks 😊
my 2008 prius smart key was recognized by the trunk and unlocked when I opened the latch. I now have a 2022 prime and the trunk door doesn't open unless I use the fob or unlock from driver's door. Is there a way to get this to work? Did they change this feature?
Just flip the lock when you get out. Dont use the key fob. Hondas are set when you flip the driver door lock all door locks. But toyota doesn't do this which is dumb. Also on honda when you unlock the door with the fob. And didnt open the door for a set amount of time it relocks. Which is cool.
Hi Steve, do know how to change the door locking on a 2002 Toyota Highlander? Currently, mine does not lock when you take it out of drive, or when you start driving. TIA!
Good video. I wish my CHR had this feature. I just assumed all vehicles have this feature. Do you know if this can be added? The only way that I know of is to have a 500$ aftermarket alarm installed. Thanks and have a good one from Bartlett Tennessee
@@stevenwelchtoyota 2020. When I brought it back to the dealership everyone in the service department thought it should automatically lock. When I picked it up they told me that Toyota informed them the computer does not support that function
Great tutorial but I did the vehicle customization for my door locks to Off but it’s not saving my preferences 🤔 It’s still automatically unlocking. Any idea on why it won’t save my settings?
Hi Steve, I do have some questions. Let's say you been seated inside your car for let's say 30 minutes and you lock the car door. Then when you start your engine without unlock in your key fob. Do you think you can help me out. I tried to figure it out how to do that without unlocking the car door in a key fob. Please, thanks.
Hello Steven Welch, would you have to have a solution when the Rav 4 door is not responding properly to the remote, it very intermittently unlock or not unlock at all..
My key fob stop working even on my spare key..did i turn something off or is it the battery in the fobs just dead? I also dont see the door lock options u jus described.
Thanks for your videos! I am using the toyota app and have the remote connect activated. I've noticed a few times lately, that for some reason, my toyota highlander (2021) is suddenly locked while parked in my garage. I didn't lock it when I got out or from the app. Is there something in the app that is automatically locking the vehicle? I have not even opened the app to manually do this, so was wondering how this is occurring? any ideas or thoughts on that? Are there any settings in the "entune radio" that I need to adjust? Thank you.
In my Tacoma 21 why can I not select which doors specifically to lock or unlock? I want to keep my rear passenger doors locked except from the outside to prevent kids from opening the doors on the inside while in motion. How can I do this? The setting is not there in my truck
Great video, just wondering if there’s a way to change how long you have to hold the driver’s side handle for before it unlocks all the doors. My owner’s manual says it’s customizable, but I don’t see the option anywhere
@@stevenwelchtoyota The one you mentioned when you said "I did a whole video on this you might want to watch." You only said that once in this vid. I don't want to rewatch the whole thing to find it.
Excellent video but my complaints are that (1) I live a thousand miles from your dealership so buying one from you would be hard and (2) the waiting list for a new Toyota is currently ridiculous. My old Toyotas still run too well to replace so all I hope is complaint (2) changes before I need a car. Thanks for the video.
Hello Steven, great video. I am hoping you can shed light on an issue that just started. I have a 2021 Camry SE 4000 miles. The door handle touch lock/unlock function stopped working, it will buzz for 10 seconds. The buzzing also happens when I close the trunk. I am only able to lock/unlock the doors using the FOB. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again. HC in Los Angeles
@@stevenwelchtoyota Steven, thanks for your quick response. Yes...I just put my spare key in a hidden spot in my trunk just about the time that this issue started. I didn't mention in my initial email that I put my girl friends spare key in her trunk also which is a 2014 Camry XSE and the same issue just started about the same time. We are both scratching our heads on how this annoyance is affecting both cars about the same time or is this just a weird coincidence ? Could this be causing interference ??? is this what you are thinking?? I am removing the spare keys and I will let you know what happens or if you have another thought please share. Thanks again you are very helpful.
Steven. I removed the spare key from the trunk of the 2014 Camry and it is back to normal...I'm sure it will be the case on the 2021. I want to thank you again for saving me a whole lot of inconvenience . Before coming across your video I had contacted my Service person at the dealer and he said I need to bring both cars in because he could not readily determine a fix over the phone which would of become a big boondoggle for us. I will surely let my Toyota Service contact know about this hopefully help someone else because I cannot believe this has not happened to others. Here's a thought.....if I had taken the cars in it would have never dawned to me to remove or advise them of the spare key....I wonder how long it would have taken them to figure it out??? HC in L.A
@@hectorcalderon1878 a lot of new cars will not allow the car to lock if it senses a key inside. My older Altima would pop the trunk back open if a key got left inside as well as not allow the doors to lock
@@fishalope5 Thanks Sophie...yep I have learned something new, I even contacted my Toyota Dealer in Los Angeles and let my "go to " person know what I had learned. He himself being with the dealership for 20 years did know about this "smart feature"...he will be sharing this with his Techs. I'm just glad I found this out before taking both my Camrys into the shop which was the recommendation.....just think what the hassle would of been with Service being unable to determine the problem and myself not knowing any better.
I recently bought a truck. Is there a way to lock the doors with the car running without the fob inside the car? If I want to lock the doors while the car is warming up on cold mornings.
Kinda sad. I bought a 2022 Tundra and it doesn't have an automatic lock upon exiting feature. I had a 2017 Honda CRV, now the wife's car, that had this feature. I am so used to it, now I just have to remember... not a deal breaker, but I hope Toyota does this through a software update. It is a great safety feature in my opinion.
Is there a way for my doors to automatically lock after so much time after walking away? I had a Honda CR-V & they would automatically lock, i come back to my car today & it was still unlocked from yesterday i didn’t realize it wouldn’t lock on its own lol!
Thank you! I just bought the 2024 last week and this key system is confusing as heck. In the morning taking my son to school he has to wait until I let him in the passenger side.
Trying to set my car to unlock when opening the driver door, but it's not working - it acts the same as if I have that setting to OFF. If I set it to unlock all doors when I shift to park, that works as expected. Any ideas how to fix it? (Driving a 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE with smart key if that matters.)
I have a Corolla Touring Sports 1.8 Hybrid 2021, and there is no Lock options under the Vehicle Menu. Only Unlock... Has Toyota removed the auto lock function from some models?
@@stevenwelchtoyota No, I just want the doors locked when the car starts moving/by speed. Under "Door lock Settings" menu, there is just 3 options: 1)Remote 2-Press Unlock 2)Select Doors to unlock 3)Smart Entry & Start System. Nothing related to lock. Just wondering if the autolock feature was removed, or if it's something that can be fixed/updated
Do you know why my doors would suddenly stop unlocking when I grab the handle? It’s been doing weird things so I put a new battery in the fob, now I’m having issues when I go to lock the car it automatically unlocks. Unless I use the fob. Toyota RAV4, 2016 I believe
@@stevenwelchtoyota the cabin lights ended up going on and off by themselves and killed my battery. We ran a test before and after a new battery tho and it failed several communication errors so I have an apt next week for a mechanic to look at it :/
Can you remove/delete Toyota ETune, The software for the radio system to synch with your usb/mp3/smart phone, etc. It doesn't work here in the USA anyways
We have a 2021 toyota highlander LE. We can’t seem to find the lock function so when you turn car off and walk away the car should lock automatically. We can’t seem to find that. Thank you
Is there a way to disable the door handle proximity unlock feature? I took my 2021 hylander hybrid to my local Toyota dealer and they told me ut hasn't possible.
@@stevenwelchtoyota I am not looking to disable the FOB from broadcasting as I am aware of temporarily being able to turn it off, but rather I don't want the doors only to unlock based on proximity.
Is there any way to have it lock when you walk away or haven’t locked it? Sometimes I forget to lock my car and then find out the next day it was unlocked all night…
I am trying to figure out how can I set my car for lock if self, I got a 2018 Highlander and my husband has a Tundra, if he doesn't lock the truck, a few minutes later the truck lock by it self but my car doesn't. And we put that selection in the radio but nothing happens.
We just purchased a 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium. Does this model have this feature? We're not seeing this within the audio section. Also, is there a way to set the headlamps to turn on and shut off automatically? #firsttimetoyotaowner #rookie
You can set what doors open through the settings menu. There is no auto on for the lights but if you leave them in the on position the default off is in 60 seconds
If you get an ELM327 Bluetooth OBD scanner adapter and a suitable app such as Car Scanner or Torque, you'll be able to monitor all the car's systems, check for fault codes, reset warning lights and change customisable settings. I've just got one for my 2010 Vellfire, and now have one-touch remote lowering and raising of all the windows.
Thanks for this; I just bought a Corolla and every morning when I get to work, the passenger doors are unlocked when I never unlocked them and that freaks me out.
Hey what setting did you change? I'm coming from a 2005 Acura RSX and the fact that the doors are unlocked when I didn't unlock them via fob is driving me insane!
Ok Thanks for taking the time to reply! It is very much appreciated!! Can I ask another non related question but relating to the CHR? I’m going to upgrade the weak horn with a twin (all in one) horn and this was suppled with a replay. If I upgrade the fuse for the horn circuit to a higher rating, do a straight swap, run an earth from the negative side of the horn - would this work as intended? I have been told that the horn on the CHR has already got the relay for the horn circuit so presumably wouldn’t need an another relay. Obviously as gong to the effort of fitting an airhorn it would make sense to have it working to the best of its ability (i.e Loud!) The brits in certain areas are lousy drivers at best! I work on EMS and am out on the roads most shifts. The standard of the driving really is very poor here in certain areas!😳🫣 Ps do you have a tutorial on how to remove the front bumper on a CHR? If not do you have step wise instructions of how I go about doing this too gain access to the stock horn? Sorry for all the questions, but thought why not ask an expert who knows Toyotas inside out!!? Cheers Jon B
Amazing thanks!! And also the speed you replied, fantastic ! Keep the video content coming, great well explained content relating Toyotas !! I’m a fan😊
It is absolutely ridiculous for Toyota to design it to shutdown when the door is opened after a remote start, rather than being able to drive away without it shutting down. If Toyota was trying to p*ss off their customers, they certainly did the right thing! I've had my car since 2019 and everytime it shuts down when I open the door after a remote start, I still cuss at Toyota for designing such an idiotic feature and there's nothing that can be done about it so far.
I have 2018 toyota fortuner ,, the door locker keeps locking all doors by itself, even when I lock the car I can still hear the clicking keeps locking, today took more than 30 minuts and stoped,, please help
I have a 2012 Camry XLE. I don’t have a menu button for my door locks. Having a large family, and having to open the door and push the unlock button is annoying
mine is missing why? I know why, camry 2023. You have to wait a bit in order to see the full menu. It is very strange. Sometimes. you see sometimes you don't. It is all about the timing it right.
