This is literally the only video I could find that addresses this subject/technique. Pulling out the frame from under my Tacoma by myself took the better part of a day due to all the rusted fasteners. Hopefully putting the new to me frame in goes without a hitch. THANK YOU for making this video.
@@user-ur1io4ji2q It should take a good shop about a day if the only thing that needs replacing is the frame. Figure in bolts and new parts if you do go that route.
I swapped the frame on my 2000 tundra using this method. Including changing the necessary items from the old frame to the new frame, redoing control arms, coil springs, rear shocks, rack and pinion, tie rods, and front differential, I completed the job at just under 120 hours. But that is EVERYTHING. 2000 Tundra Limited 4x4 Access cab
@@jwil07 I found a good frame at a salvage yard for $450. I went way over the top. I invested $2,000 roughly but I redid EVERYTHING. It’s worth it to me.
@@GammaFields if the gear ratio is the same, then it could likely be modified to fit on a first gen frame. Are you trying to make it 4x4 or 2x4? I ask because that is a major factor in space as well as the actual frame itself
removes frame that is designed to rust out.replaces with same frame without rustproofing it. but that was damn slick. amazing what some forethought about a project can help.
All I can say is wow, to take a project like this you have to have huge balls, can't imagine where to even start, so many things to do. Great job, well done.
Thank you for this vid, I basically took the same approach you with my 02 Sequoia. I had the the luxury of using a friends lift. I braced the engine and trans in the body and dropped the frame with the gas tank rear and front diffs.
Can you get me his contact info?🫢 I'm about to do a new frame replacement for my 2000 Tundra, it would be nice to have a person to be able to connect with if I have any issues/questions. Thanks for your consideration
Nice work, i have an 02 sequoia with a pretty clean frame, if it ever rots out Id rather do this job myself than argue with the dealer to do it and have them mess something up in the process.
@Rusty Climber If i am correct, a small.percentage of molybdenum would make the frames nearly rust proof. I will go out on a limb and say that would be cheaper than replacing rotted out frames. Of course i could be full of 💩💩💩💩
Dont forget to bleed the brakes, a 4 wheel alignment, and be sure to tighten all suspension bushing components with the vehicle in the ride height position. It's also good insurance to replace the steel brake lines with everything exposed. Stainless steel pre-bent line kits are cheap.
I just took mines in and they are doing the work. Very easy they gave me a new 2017 Tacoma as well. They are replacing the frame. I was about to sell it for dirt cheap. I am so excited I called. 12/10/2017. I wonder how much my bill will be
Wow, I have an 04 Tundra and it didn't qualify for frame replacement so they sprayed the frame twice with black Fran paint. The first attempt fell off. Still waiting to see what happens with the second attempt. However my rear differential has rusted out and leaks fluid. Have you seen this before?
i'm done messing with toyota and their dealers with my 03'sequoia. car is in great shape except for a 2'section of front left frame. gonna attempt this myself.....where can i get a full frame and how much can i expect to pay? can i possibly replace a section?
William Vuiller yes it does. My first was a 04 Tacoma 4cyl auto 4x4 extra cab. When holding the engine it is VERY important to have it balanced from right to left so it stays strait as the frame is lowered.
could this be done using an engine support bar instead of suspending the engine from above? Or would it tip forward once the cab is placed on the jackstands?
@@lelenbates3367 Yeah i bailed on that idea and used a 4x4 and two car lift size jack stands and a chain to support the engine and another 4x4 and regular jack stands to support the tranny. The rest of the process outlined in this video is excellent and I can vouch for it. I was able to swap my frame in my driveway
mr o’keefe I’m about to attempt to replace my frame on my 2004 tacoma 4x4, any advice you might give? or can i possibly contact you once i get started.? thanks Joe price
The 4X4 and the 2wd Prerunner are the same frame. Of course it has to be Xtra Cab or 4dr if your 4wd is. The Prerunner is a six lug 2wd. It is the only 2wd drive that can interchange with the 4wd. If your 2wd is 5 lug, it is a no go.
Mike considering you live below the rust belt your opinion is just bias. Chevy and Toyota frames rust out fast because they use a black wax coat on their frames. Ford and Ram use a pretty good powder coat that seems to last much longer.
Mike Allmon but when a company sells a product and advertises it in a snow belt or canada where i fucking live they should be designed with serious coatings for us like wtf is that shit most people dont understand rust and when yhey buy a 80k cad truck they expect it to last 20 years since when is asking 15 20 SOLID years out of a TRUCK supposed to be used to work HARD why are they fucking lasting 5 now
John it rusts from the inside out so you just dont notice it they have no drain holes in there box frames dodge is just as guilty of making disposable trucks i remember seeing trucks with no door skins left but a solid frame this is getting out of hand people need to realise that çheap frames poor designs made to fail just like forss new 6.4l power stroke
Toyotas frames where built by Delphi which as you know is GM's parts supplier, they used a crap vendor that supplied crappy steel, causing Toyota to remedy the problem themselves using a better grade steel and undercoat.
I think instead of doing this I would just carefully dismantle the entire truck an sell off all of those good parts and send the frame to the local metal recyclers.
