My dude! I had the same issue, don’t forget to clean the 4 tiny holes inside the 4 larger intake manifold openings. My EGR cooler was completely clogged at 200k miles. That was the main problem. I’m at 222k now, I noticed it’s burning more oil, so I’m installing a catch can right now, and a new PCV valve. My coils are original, new spark plugs tho
Changed the spark plug, cleaned the intake/throttle body, replaced pc valve, and cleaned MAF. Ran it a bit and was good. Then disconnected egr circuit (easy to do). GREAT. Engine has never ran better. Gives code, but that EGR is a nightmare for the engine.
Without watching. That is the head gasket. Normal for that engine or sparkplugs... i bought a 07 from someone that was told by a dealer it needed a new engine. I just put some engine oil cleaners in the oil and seafoam in each cylinder and new sparkplugs and i put 70k on that engine and sold it with almost no oil consumption 3 years later .
Also bought a 2010 still drive it. I fixed the oil consumption the same way. It had a plugged catalytic converter. The previous owner was told it needed a new engine as well. After they spent $5k trying to fix it.
Thats a pretty good strategy, customers bring their car with a engine problem, dealership says, yeah we can fix it. Of course a new engine will fix the problem. No need to diagnose anything, no need to check it out, just put a new engine and call it fixed and just make the customer pay for it. Wow!
I had a 2012 Honda Insight. I took it to Honda and they told me my engine is blown and it would cost me 3500 to repair it. I got mad took it home and replace it with new spark plugs and ignition coil for under $400. It ran like a champ. I drove it from Texas to California with no issues. The dealerships are scammers. Please update us in a few months
Yeah it’s scary… your at your most vulnerable state looking for some type of answers and expect to dealer your be honest but in return they abuse their power to squeeze every nickel and dime out of you. I just hope this video helps people from getting scammed by the dealer or any mechanic for that matter,.
On the other side of this I had a dealer fix my car for free because of engine sludge they could have chosen not to do the repair cause it was out of warranty and I changed my own oil and it was a Toyota dealer
Think the cause of this may be oil change intervals in relation to EGR valve. I had this in my 2010. Has not happened in my 2014s yet. there is small tapping when I accelerate hard when cold. If you change the ignition coils, should start with spark plugs and wires. wow, the spark plugs are way worse than 2004-2009 to get at. I find removing wiper motors to get to spark plugs the most annoying thing about this vehicle.
Lmao holy smokes when I learned I had to remove the wipers I was scared… but after doing it multiple times I’ve gotten comfortable now and do it without hesitation. But in reality it is really inconvenient to have to remove extra parts to get to one location….
BG hybrid oil cleaner and Royal purple. change the oil at 3000 miles. Change the plugs at 20k-40k depending on the oil consumption. I buy and sell prius's for a living.
If you found that to be the case it's because you are buying counterfeit plugs. Mine are original at 220K and my car has been burning oil for 100k. Iridium spark plugs last a ridiculously long time. Only buy spark plugs from a chain store or dealership.
Can you give an update after 5 months. I havea 2010 with at times the same startup shake. I changed spark plugs and did a full EGR valve and cooler cleaning with the intake and new PCV valve at 90k miles and am now at 128k miles. I never burn oil and have not noticed my coolant level to drop at all.
every time you change the oil you must be really careful...if you put more than 4.5. quarters the extra oil goes to the cilinders and cause misfires, cloges the tiny holes of the manifold intake etc etc...remeber to clean the egr cooler, the egr valve, the metalic pipe that conect the manifoldwith egr and the manifold intake I recomend you to buy an extra manifold intake and egr cooler (used ones) cause takes more than 3 days to clean
that is extremely helpful! thank you. i regularly put the whole 5quarts into my engine every time i change my oil. and it makes sense because when i cleaned my manifoldl i saw a puddle of fresh oil at the bottom.
Hey, amazing idea. I think you can clean the egr and the intake manifold after disassembling it. You can literally power wash the inside of both and let it to completely dry under sunlight. That will only take about less than 30 minutes to see through EGR AND MAKE IT CLEAN. JUST THOUGHT OF GIVING YOU AN IDEA THAT I HAVE ALREADY DONE AND WORKED PERFECTLY.
Hi there, we got engine knocking today and quite scary for the fam. I just want to know the update after a year replaying the coil? Does your engine still knocking? Mine is 145K right now and not sure what need to change. Please advise anyone
@@seatee4770 How big of a leak would it have to be? My prius is not loosing any amount of coolant (that i can notice) But it does make a rattlely sound when cold started. Do you think head gasket? Or is it normal for a very short rattle on cold start?
@@Surpriseify How many miles on it? The rattle could be a timing chain noise. Usually if the head gasket is bad you will not only hear the rattling noise but you will feel the engine run rough.
@@BrokeInCalifornia no i just noticed the red temperature light would blink then the over flow coolant would spill. You know what i think i did get one it was some thing about a low circuit but forgot the code. I drove it look that for 6 months in tijuana the mechanic told me the problem its because its a electric water pump thats why the headgasket went bad he said he recommended to get it replaced every 70k miles.
@@BrokeInCalifornia damm i forgot it but i let you know i got to look in my Facebook messages. Dealership wanna me to charge me 5k i clean manifold replace egr kit cooler coils spark plugs pcv valve ever thing at the end it was the headgasket.
2014 with 210,000 mi. Had the same noise. Replaced plugs, coils, injectors and cleaned EGR. Noise was still there. It needed a head gasket. Traded it in and got a 2021. Best decision ever made. Get rid of that 3rd gen man. Its not worth it. Then it still needs the hybrid battery, the transmission… and probably the brake booster
Awww man…. I was thinking about selling it but I got a new battery from the dealer for free and no other issues. I do want to keep it because its such a great car and great on oil. But I do see small issues can cause larger ones..
It has 140k +\- miles and i did not change the water pump Becuz I don’t know if the Previous owner did it but it is on the back of my mind and I want to change it sooner than later just to reassure myself it’s not going to go out soon and mess my car up.
Yeah it’s been a little over a month and the car is running strong. I drive the car for a constant 2 hours every Friday and Sunday and I haven’t had any issue.
Indeed, looking back, there was no need for me to remove the windshield wipers. However, I was aware that simply removing the coils wouldn't satisfy me unless I also replaced the spark plugs. With that in mind, I was determined to identify the problem.
There are usually 5 problems the head gasket, fuel injectors, ignitions coils, spark plugs, or EGR. Any one of these will make ur engine shake like crazy
